when you download the tremulous from tremulous.net/files you get one with no GUID auto download set to 0 no
lag -o-meter a crappy menu screen and no binds. Why help newbies out and release tremulous 1.15 that has a built in GUID , useful weapon binds,a menu screen and with default options in it and auto download lagometer set to 1. this would make tremulous a lot more user friendly because people wouldn't have to hunt around for all these codes and files.
-
This issue has been raised numerous times before and discussed into the ground. All people have to "hunt around" for is the TJW backported client.
The correct spelling is "release".
-
Yes, if the devs just package it as a 1.1.5 release, it would be good for the time.
-
They should have an updated version downloadable from their website. I don't see why not.
-
At least this is better than a hundred whiny morons screaming, "RELEAZ 1.2 NAU PLZ!"
-
auto download lagometer set to 1.
Can I have one of these please?

I would like an autodownload lagometer.
Actually, when i finish it, ill upload screenshots. I got some pressure controllers that support usb, and put them on some gagues. So currently, i have a gage for CPU speed, and more coming soon.
-
I think this is a great idea.

I've been flamed repeatedly for suggesting this selfsame thing. Even if the devs aren't into it, I agree with the idea that a few forum mods or MG members might be interested in hosting a mirror for some updated clients. Most of the older players usually complain that people don't have an up-to-date client, but with so many qvms floating around, it's kind of something some players just don't have time to track down. Silly simple stuff, like sort-by-ping for the Mac client, Options on the Play page, Brightness as a Menu Option, autodownload turned on, server unique GUID turned on, and backported. Even if it wasn't hosted here, maybe a link could be stickied somewhere.
tl;dr version:
I support some sort of community hosting of updated clients for various operating systems, thereby eliminating a lot of forum nonsense about troubleshooting the same old stuff endlessly.
Cheers!
P.S. +1'd OP (Good idea - consider using a bit more capitalization and punctuation, and turn on spellcheck, and you'll be surprised at how well received your ideas might be; even the sketchy ones).
+1'd Paradox: for mod supportiveness

There are already several community binaries, such as Tremulous-Amanieu and the ones available from the Trem-Servers team. What's needed is a truly official intermediate release that contains GUID support and autodownloads, and if it's going to have any effect at all it's going to have to supplant the current release on the files page. Trusting that new players will eventually figure out that there's a newer client available (either by themselves or their favourite server reminding them every game) is hardly an ideal solution.
-
I strongly agree - give us official stuff! A Release, a piece of info in the news about the process - anything.
There is no release management, no information management - no management at all. And who has the balls to change it?

+1 to the idea!
(i recommend "balls to change" as our motto [bajsefar you should've been illustrating this :-)] )

BALLS TO CHANGE!
GET THE NEWS OUT!

Would be nice.
Would it just have the TJW client, or would it be built on a more recent build?

99% of the people here are too thick to understand what's going on, or even see that it is going on. Short of the dev team getting a PR dude with lots of spare time, you wont be seeing a dumbed down version any time soon.
-
Bullshit: It's got nothing to do with being thick or not!
The tremulous community is riddled with small mods and shit.
Getting any idea of how dev progress is going is like trying to sort a ton of mixed wheat flour and washing powder.
And the main news page not having any news about development since Friday 2nd of February 2007 is discouraging!
I mean, why don't you guys just search put out a wanted message for a PR guy? I'm sure that there are a lot of willing candidates!
It's just.. Well, easy to doubt 1.2, or more correctly, it's easy to lose interest when no signs of anything new is apparent at the place where such things should be present.
Judging from the Tremulous.net page, trem development is dead as a fish spending its summer vacation on land.
But it's not!
Is this the impression you want to give the community?
-
Just having a PR dude isn't enough, you would still be explaining everything to them, so its just adding a middle man. Whats needed is a PR dude who already knows what going on, knows everyone, knows how things work, and more importantly is trusted by the devs to be able to speak to the community on their behalf. Were there someone who fulfilled all that and had the time, they would probably be here already telling you what's going on.
Last news feb 2007? Am I the only one who can see the Jan 2008 post? The one about how its all ticking along fine?
Also, final point, quite often there just isn't that much going on that's worth reporting. Does anyone care that its now all using SDL and openAL etc? Probably not, but its a big milestone they hit. Does anyone but me care about IPv6? Again, people wouldn't really see that as a big deal, although is very important.
1.1 took 7 years. 1.2 might take a while.
-
Well, there was the trem dev thread.
Don't remember who made it, but it was pretty active for a while.
But it wasn't on the main page, there is no info on the main page about any development, trivial or not.
Which bothers me a bit.- There are also no new screenshots in the sceenshot page since the birth of time, Although there IS a lot of pictures to show!
(Choppers, new models, new HUD, new maps!)
Which should be enough to atleast keep the interest of more players, currently it's a bit dull, yes. :)
there was versions before 1.1.
The standalone didn't take 7 years to make? O.o
1.2 is an update, yes, it's pretty damn big, but if it takes 7 years, i'll dry up and die with huge parts of the community. :/
Other nice ways to keep the gamer's hearts burning with desire for the upcoming versions, like TremRadio. (which was a good idea! I nearly got a hard on by listening to Dasprid talk about new 1.2 features planned. :D )

DaSPRiD = PR
-
I don't know why the devs do not want to replace that outdated 1.1 file with something like the tjw backport which ANY player being around trem for more then 2 weeks already uses or is pointed to. It is either plain stupidity, lazyness or disregard of the fact, that other ppl can write useful code too. (Or they lost the ftp password and are too ashamed to admit it ;-P)
-
the point is:
not supporting newbies = producing n00bs
-
Patience people. If you do not possess patience, Tremulous is the wrong to community to hang out.
-
I get that.
I'll just have to keep trolling t3h forumz in the meanwhile, won't i?
-
i bet a lot of people are willing to help get tremulous 1.15 out they just don't know what to do. just tell everyone what is to be done and someone will do it.

Done! http://tremulous.net/files
*whew* That was a biggie.
