Title: Puretremulous: Now testing semipure
Post by: Lakitu7 on June 20, 2008, 12:07:27 am
Puretremulous has begun using the new Semipure system developed by Lak that lets servers allow the optional use of client downloads. You can stick with your old pre-downloads stuff and play at Puretrem just as you always have. But for cool people who like less glitches and higher fps: get it. The download is a new cgame (client-side game code) that's built from much newer stuff. As a result, you can now play on Puretrem with improved FPS and less wacky building glitches... but only if you want to. The choice is yours!

We hope that this change will allow more progressive players to enjoy the benefits brought by this download, but without completely killing the playerbase like what always happens when servers require one. Enjoy!

Older announcements:
---------------------
We the admins of Puretremluous would like to point out the following changes to our policies the hopes that they may expand the size of our community to welcome new members. Since the affected groups wouldn't be visiting our own forums, this seems more appropriate.

#1) We've wiped all bans (with only a couple of exceptions) from before the beginning of this year, which is several hundred bans and over half our list. We tend to assume that most folks who're truly that bad will have poor attention spans and will have moved on by now anyway. Thus, if your little brother got you banned ages ago, or if you were an idiot yourself ages ago but have grown out of it, now's your chance to come back. Don't ruin it ;)

#2) We've turned up sv_maxping to 300 (was 200) to allow some more of our foreign friends to join the fun.

Hope to see you there, as we continue to bring you the Purest Tremulous on this side of the world. :)

Cool, thanks for the update, but honestly... how many ~300 pingers go to PT other than Amanieu?

Well, other than him, 0.

Amanieu only makes it on by using a particular exploit to get past that, although in fairness he continues to update the bugzilla report so that someone might actually commit the fix one day.

Hey, I come on PT as well, and my ping is about ~300. Although it does climb to ~500+ on evil days.

Semi-pure is the coolest thing ever.

Alright guys, after doing some more hacking to the server, PT is now using pk3s named aaa_ instead of zzz_ which will stop them from loading after you've restarted trem (thus, now they will ONLY load when you are playing on a server that requests them, unlike the zzz_ ones). Delete your zzz_ pk3s if they are giving you trouble with huds or whatever else, and that will be no more. :)

Actually, that still breaks custom menus because the client puts crap in the wrong directory no matter what you do. It sucks horribly.

Thus, this will no longer be an automatic download. You will have to download it manually from the repo if you care to use it:
http://downloads.mercenariesguild.net/svnsemipure/
Place the downloaded file in your BASEPATH, not your HOMEPATH.

Typically, this means:
C:\Program Files\Tremulous\Base
or
~/tremulous/base

NOT:
C:\documents and settings\blahblah or ~/.tremulous/base

If you put file in the wrong place, the client will load it instead of the default stuff and your custom menus etc. won't work anymore. Don't say you weren't warned.

If you played here yesterday/today and got the autodownload, you should move it to the correct location from where it downloaded to (unless you don't use custom menus, and then probably does not matter at all).

Despite the comedy of the name contradiction, I don't think anyone sees later svn cgames as unpure. :)
