Title: Gamerspeak
Post by: Bomb on June 26, 2008, 12:30:17 pm
A bit OT...

If you flip FTW around, you get WTF...

Edit: as per below, split from here. (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=8477.0) --Rocinante

Having not been privy to online gaming slang since I stopped playing games for quite a while there, I thought FTW was a question, as in "F*** the what?" :P

And I still think people who have a fascination with saying "ORLY?" are trying to hide their fascination with "ANLY".  But maybe that's also because I believe the butchering of the English language which once was done by hackers in the name of fun (mousing, Fortarn, "all nouns can be verbed") is now done more out of laziness and lack of education, or to try to look "cool" which ends up making people look like lame idiots who probably giggle incessantly at ASCII art like (.) (.) and the closest they've been - and will be for some decades - to a vagina was birth.

Hmm.. this is probably going to generate more offtopic replies in this thread.. I'll proactively split it.
