Title: Trem Demos
Post by: Jex on June 11, 2006, 08:10:04 am
I'm wondering if anyone has any really awesome Trem demos or videos. Sometimes I'm a bit bored, but don't quite feel like playing so I like spectating a game, but watching a good demo would be even better than randomly spectating a game and hoping i'm following the right player! :D

To start things off, here's a small video I just made:

 http://jex.vilkacis.net/demos/omgzerg.avi

Please post some awexomeness.

I might give it a shot if I can get it to run so that it doesn't kill my framerate.

yay im famous too!  :D

(lol jex, that 'oooooww uuuhh' at the end was hilarious. did u replace the soundclip or just used it for the vid?)
-----------------

How can i record in-game btw? what are the minumum system requirements to record without ruining the frame rate?

Just added the sound in later.

Record demos by using the /record /stoprecord command.

I don't think it's much of a drain on resources so it shouldn't have a huge effect on playability.

or cl_autorecorddemo 1 and it'll record a new demo for each round, doesn't really affect performance much, if at all.

The grenade/Lucifer jumping terrifies me because it reminds me of Team Fortress.

I actually did see someone Lucifer-jump (without a grenade) in gameplay the other day.

*shivers*

how does that /video /stopvideo command work?
Any settings available?

I've tried it but can't open it later.. virtualdub says missing header when i open avi.

yeah i tried the /video thing and shit my fps dropped to like 10... very not playable..

i even opened up a saved demo then used the /video on that but it still brought the fps to 10?? on something already saved??

my laptop is sooo underclocked.. a 3.2 processor running at 1.8 maybe thats y..id overclock it but shit the thing already blows air out like a hairdryer and really hot..

any way to increase fps???

using the /video command will have a hit on performance while it captures, but you'll have a nice quality video with sound (and decent framerate). For opening the .avi's use Videolan (and from there encode to somethign else).

When using /video with a saved demo it displays the game at the speed that it is able to export the frames according to cl_aviFrameRate. In game it will be running at really low fps, but the exported video will be smooth at the framerate set by cl_aviFrameRate.

At the moment there is a bug with the sound when using /video. The sound can be choppy and have echos. The best option right now is probably using Fraps while running the game at 640x480. This way, on decent computers, fraps can capture at a proper 30 fps and the sound is captured properly. (It should be possible to capture the audio with Fraps and the video using /video and then put the two together afterwards, but that sounds dangerously close to work).

Also, I just had this little morsel happen tonight:

Eh, might as well post another since no one else (except Who <3) seems to want to entertain me.  :(

Was good fun watching them all play bumper cars for a while..

I'd post, but first I'd have to figure out how to record.

And then, I'd have to download some editing software to cut to the interesting bits.

Which, I might add, are very far and few between.  I'm not very good, so for most of the match, I just run around waiting for pity points, or sitting around healing.

No fun in watching that.

Try joining the server West Coast and watching Victor, when he's on. Always a good show. I've also seen Zero-I think it's Zero Logic?- On Killaz server, he always seems to kill you in one hit, it's crazy, nothing but headshots. So he would be good to watch as well.

I think Trem needs some cool demos too, it is such a good game for them. Show a tyrant charging into a turret.. Someone mass driving a Dretch out of the air, a little bit of fancy dancing with a shotgun taking out a dragoon. Show it all in about 2 minutes and you have yourself a demo.

All you need is someone who can shoot a Dretch out of the air with a mass driver....

not really too hard, excuse the shitty sound/quality, was too lazy to get fraps.

It doesn't show the dretch actually getting shot.. =/
Would it be better to record a demo then /video while watching the demo? Sounds like you would get better quality since there are no connections flying around.

Thats what I do, theres a glitch or two with /video and the sound of the video it outputs.

Could host the demo files along with the avis too then, so much better quality from what I have seen.
Though... Jex manages to throw out some great quality movies, prolly has an uber computer or somethin'.. or he uses fraps, either way.

I playback the demos at 640x480 and cap with fraps. Then use Virtualdub to cut out the bits I want and compress with xvid codec at 1300 rate (just left the rest of the settings at default.. I'm still a nub at video making). The audio I compress with lame at variable ~160 kbps bitrate.

The omgzerg video was made somewhat differently using Adobe Premiere for the editing. I then exported it as an uncompressed avi at 1024x768 (I've learned since then to cap at 640x480 to get a decent ~30 fps). Then I used Virtualdub to resample and compress with xvid.

Hi all! I'm going to make a videoclip about Tremulous and I want to put some questions here:

- Can I use in the videoclip some of the video I found here? I think I'll ask permission to every author, and I'll give credit to them at the end of the clip

- You suggest to record a demo, than use /video on that demo, right? Stupid question: how to play a demo? :P

- When I use /video, I get always darken color. Some tips for this thing?

I'll do some other tries, thx for help and sorry for my english, i'm italian.

Edit: I want also know if I can view in third person while in spectator mode. I saw that Timbo, in his intro video, use a lot third person view and I like it...
