I recently posted to the General Discussion forum. The post can now be found at http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=8780.0
The question I have now is, why is it that my post was moved to the forum without a post about how it was moved? A glance at the front page shows us the following topics:
MOVED: Newbie question: Filter in-game messages?
MOVED: Good Idea?
MOVED: Tremulous Public Teamspeak
MOVED: question about binds
MOVED: Custom skins for Tremulous?

Now, many of these topics are pre-pended with 'MOVED: ' to indicate that the topic was started in General Discussion, but moved by a moderator to another forum. That's fine, but what I want to know is why my topic was not moved in this fashion. Since I didn't see a MOVED marker for my topic, I reposted, thinking something might have been lost. The following discussion with Lava Croft ensued, which is now deleted:

One glance at the frontpage and you would have seen it was moved to the correct section, namely the Mods section.

The top one is this thread. Which one, of those, are you referring to?
EDIT: Unless you were referring to tremulous.net's front page - in which case the top news article isn't about my post either. Perhaps you meant the forum front page, http://tremulous.net/forum. But then, all I see there is a list of forums, not where my topic went.

Lava didn't respond to the last quote, or I would have added it in. My topic simply disappeared. Again. And still no 'MOVED: ' marker. My question now is what does it take to get a 'MOVED: ' marker? As is, it looks like I'm simply being censured for some reason - my topic got moved and I wasn't told where, I had to ask before I found out. Now, I could understand if my topic was moved because it hadn't had enough time in the General Discussion section for people to expect to find it there. That's fine - I'd just like to know if that's the policy. And if it is, what amount of time is required for it to get a 'MOVED: ' marker.

Because I thought you would be bright enough to notice it, and because nobody had replied to it yet, and because it was not a request of any kind.
I certainly was wrong about you being bright enough.

It's an option with a box you can check on or off

because nobody had replied to it yet
So, the policy is to move it without notice (no 'MOVED: ') if no one has replied?
and because it was not a request of any kind.
Could you explain what you mean by this?

Sorry, I don't understand what you're referring to.

When a mod moves a thread there is a tick box for if to show the MOVED message. They can also customise the message if they want to.

Ah. Thanks for the explanation.

I'd just like to know if that's the policy.
To my knowledge there is no policy. Moderators are all pretty much donating their time, so policies to that degree seem a little much. It is a good practice that all of us tend to follow as far as I know, though I'd bet we've all missed it at times. I have to admit that if I saw a post in an inappropriate location only minutes after it was posted, I may move it without marking it if I thought that noone had seen it. Having "MOVED" all over the place can be distracting after all. The poster can always search for posts by themselves to find it, if they aren't in the habit looking through the forums, its not like it happens frequently to most posters.

uh, paranoid much? Sheesh, it was just moved. Censure would be deletion :)

Lol, nice comic

Yeah, I am a bit paranoid. As far as I have heard, many in MG don't agree with what TremFusion is doing and have tried to convince us to bag the project. Though I haven't heard from Timbo or any of the other original devs, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the people here at tremulous.net resented what we're doing. Going off those sentiments, it wouldn't surprise me if a moderator simply deleted any posts related to TremFusion. So, I suppose my paranoia was something along the lines of preparing for the worst. After all, I am the guy who suggested releasing Tremulous 1.2 months ago...
Anyways, you've all put my paranoia to rest. Thanks for being cool about it.

Since when does it matter what MG thinks?
-
Since we took over tremulous. It was announced on 1/4/08, didn't you get the memo?

It must have, by magical means, directly ended up in my spambox.

I also go in every so often and mass delete any of the MOVED topic notices that are older than a month.
Thanks for the reminder :-)
