Title: about archiving...
Post by: Colkadome on August 30, 2008, 08:29:43 am
This is only slightly off topic but when I unarchive the data-1.1.0.pk3 and then archive it again, not changing anything in the folder, and change it to a .pk3, the game works fine with LAN and everything but when trying to play on the internet it reads 'Error: Invalid game folder'. Is there a file that is modified during this process or do I need a special zip program?

Server that have set sv_pure 1, which is nearly all servers, require you to use the unmodified .pk3 files included with the 1.1.0 release.

It's a very crude form of cheat protection.

Even if you just unzip it and zip it again, there is a chance that metadata like modification/access dates will be changed and hence the pk3 you create will not be quite the same.

maybe you are doing the same thing i did for months.  When you unzip data.1.1.0.pk3 usually it creates a new folder callled data.1.1.0. When you go to zip it back up you click on the data.1.1.0 folder and zip it up. so you end up adding an extra folder in there. This is incorrect instead go into the data.1.1.0 folder and select all of the folders in there then zip them up.
