Title: Getting analogue joystick working....
Post by: colinjones on September 10, 2008, 12:22:37 am
Do I have to do anything specific to get my joystick working in "analogue" mode? Its USB, and when trying it in another game moving the joystick a bit generates slow movement, more generates fast movement, as expected. In Tremulous, it seems to be completely digital which makes it unusable.

Try searching. There are a ton of threads about it iirc. The only controller I've tried with Tremulous is my PS3 controller which worked fine, except that I couldn't look up.  ::)

you need to make the joystick fake mouse movement to get it to work as you expect.

That makes a lot of sense! Thanks - I will do some searching, but any pointers on that? The other game I'm trying to get this working in, although it seems to generate "analogue" control, it moves me sideways/forward/back rather than turn me around (FPS) like the mouse, so maybe that's all I need to fix up both games... problem is, the world has moved on a looong way since I last played with computer games and joysticks, and I'm still getting used to Linux! So I'm way out of my depth.. don't even really know what to search for, so any pointers would be hugely appreciated! Do you think this is something more on the Linux/KDE side of things, or a setting within the games?

i'm afraid i can't offer any help figuring out how to get it to work, but keep in mind that playing a (fairly) fast paced fps with a joystick or gamepad instead of a mouse is considered to be a huge handicap by most people.
