Just wonderin'......
-
i'm guessing so someone doesn't wall-walk into the elevated human base as dretch then change to tyrant ;)
-
You can, most of the time, evolve with humans around as long as there are none on the screen. However, evolving near human base is no possible for reasons stated above.
-
I'd like to see this reduced to evolving near human reactor. Becuse sometimes the alien base is under attack and you can't evolve to defend.. so .. that sux.
-
yeah, i'd say limit it to structures, as it might also help with spawncampers if you can evolve quicker than they can kill you.

Remember that you cant evolve while wallwalking.
I think this feature actually helps the aliens. It lets them know there is a human around, so you dont just evolve from a dretch to something bigger, and get shot to pieces before you health rises. It saves you frag points.
-
Because its embarrassing for the alien if it "does its business" right infront of humans... the indecency!
-
I think it'd be pretty annoying to chase a weaker alien down who then decides to evolve into something huge and then demolish you... then again, that could be a tactic. Being a wolf in sheep's skin is a classic. I dunno how I feel on this one, but I think it should stay the way it is.

I've lured many a human like that Pilo T.
I really dont like the restriction, I was just playing tonight and humans were camping hard and I managed to get a dretch in past all their telsa and turrets to the DC and spawns but could not even evolve into a basilisk to try and take thme out, also why is it dretchs can only damage turrets, Humans have more than enough advantages.

Maybe because you shouldn't weaken the human team in all situations to account for the rare case of unbalanced human bases. For that last point, it's better to change the map.

on couple of occasions I could not evolve in MY OWN alien base because some human was sawing/shootind om/eggs :/ that should be fixed
-
What might make more sense would be a gestation period? Perhaps make it take 5 seconds or so to evolve, where you must stay stationary and vulnerable. That would solve the dretch running in and evolving in the middle of the human base, and also the not being able to evolve in your own base issue....
-
5 seconds? You mad, that takes away suprising people who run after dretches only to encounter tyrants. I'd say not near buildings. That should be enough.
-
Too long ? Haha , it can take up to 40 seconds to evolve in NS...
But I don't mind instant evolution. Alien forms in tremulous share the same general anatomy :P
-
To solve the inability to evolve in your own base... just let the fact that you are on creep (that is, "powered" by an egg somewhere) override all other considerations. Then you can evolve in your base.
Then again, aliens might just build an egg in front of the human base, and then be able to evolve pretty much whereever they want to. Maybe also build in, or make it exclusively, range from the OM. Either way, I do support aliens being able to evolve in their own bases during a human attack. Eventually, if you can kill all the advanced aliens and just stand there, no one spawning in the base can really do anything if the entire human team is fully armed.
-
I'm in the camp that thinks aliens should always be able to evolve if they are on creep.
I also think that eggs should not be able to be built so close to human structures that anyone spawning there would not be able to evolve.
-
Wouldn't the simple solution just be "do not evolve in x game units from any human structure"? You should always be able to evolve in your base this way and even when being chased by humans but evolving near the human base or on top of it would be prevented.
Even adds comedic value, a 25 hp dretch comes up close to a battlesuit and evolves into a 400 hp tyrant.

ad1 YES
ad2 not so much, i did that once and hummie was able to bring my dretch do ~9hp just before evo, my new tyrrant had ~100hp and died quick :/
