Title: Jetpack balance solution *FLYING LISK*
Post by: zappotek on September 19, 2008, 06:51:20 pm
seriously guys, all this ranting about jet packs is unnecasary! all you need to do is make the adv. :basilisk: have wings that behave like a jet pack (jump=up crouch/wallwalk=down) and the job's a good 1! could be activated like the jet pack with the 'activate upgrade' key. also an adv. dretch with ranged attack or pounce would be nice... :dretch:+

I think it would help stop jetpackers  that just sit up there, above reach by any alien, massdriving, luci cannoning etc.

if you can see flaws with this feel free to point them out. it just provides a little bit of balance
 :human:+ :jetpack:= :dretch: :'(

 (:human:+ :jetpack:)+(:basilisk:+ :jetpack:)= :dretch: :human:

*edit* Just saw ur links, diddnt know about this, feel free to delete my topic if you want as it clearly is not a new idea *edit*

Why not just make both teams identical?
There are very few places where a human can do that, and none are important areas.

Either wall-walk to them or pounce.  Either way jettards are easy kills.

Where? What place you mean? Tell me some.

If someone is jettard, then he missing in base (for defend). And he have limited ammo.

I saw game, where aliens win, because of jettards. It was in rotcannon. Aliens had only two absolutedly uncovered eggs. Humans two big bases (unlimited serv.). But everyone only using jets. And they lose.

Technically it doesn't matter if there is one yet or not. There *could* be one, since anyone can map for trem, but I see where you're coming from and agree with you on the rest.

Addressing the original issue of jetpack's use:

The aliens can similarly hide in some vents all game if they like, but like jetpackers, they won't be able to protect their base from there, usually. Sky-camping doesn't serve much purpose, but the jetpack is *not* without purpose.

Jets keep you well above rants in some maps with high ceilings, though still within view of your base. Jetpacks allow humans to get into vents to get those last aliens holding out for timelimit, and jetpacking above ATCS is an excellent way to catch the last dretch in a game, and can also allow you to snag a fleeing goon every so often.

If a map is massively unbalanced then it won't be played.
Such places lean towards such unbalance, although can work if properly accounted for in the design.  Accidental spots generally get there roofs lowered shortly after the first beta...

Shame Hamunaptra has so high ceilings and unwalkable glass. Whereas strangely enough on the outside the dretches can walk the sky.
