Probably bad route. But since this is a problem of those specific servers you should post traceroutes on their forums.

Are you lagging? if no, does it matter what your ping is.

I do suggest you look up what ping means.

Time taken for a message to go to a server and then back again.
And ping is significant on tremwars because they don't have unlagged.

Also the time it takes for your shots to register within the server. IF your text is getting through pretty normal, but your shots seem to be slowed (try pulse rifle) then something is screwed, try resetting router/modem or both or contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) Their number should be on your monthly bill.

If you have 50 ping in one server and 200 in another, thats not your connection, it just lags because your distance from that server is far and it takes a second more or two to register to it. That's not your problem at all.

Umm... not reading the OP ftl? He said both server were in Australia where he lives.

How is your non Tremulous internet connection? Does the internet load fine?

Australia is one of the biggest countries on the planet.  Due to its size, remoteness and sparsity, it also has crap internet.
Thus its very easy for both servers to be in Australia and still be very far apart both physically and on the net.

Maybe tectonic movement has pushed the servers further away.

yes, sorry, you're right.

I just wanted to say that there are so many factors outside of your control that affect your ping and may change suddenly (like your/your servers ISP setup, how others servers at your servers hoster are accessed in parallel with your trem server, how many of your neighbours are downloading stuff etc.). Most ISPs don't even guarantee a minimum bandwidth, and I haven't seen any that guarantee good ping times.

I would ping the server for some time (ping -n 360 <server-ip>) to see if there are the same lag spikes. But if they are I don't think you can't do anything about them.
