The Beginning
A short story by Nathan Brader (aka Nux[F]lame)
It could have been anything. It could have been nothing. I guess my curiosity just wouldn't let it go.
Turning around and checking the safety on my mx006 I made my way back through the base.

There it was. The grumbling sound was quieter now but it was definately what I'd heard earlier. Like an old combustion engine, only softer. What would a car be doing here?
It was definately coming from inside. So I stepped through, tracing the far wall with the barrel of my rifle. The noise stopped.
Disturbed but still creeping along steadily I imagined Mike would be there, working out on a treadmill or whatever the hell had been making that noise.
The place was empty. There was nothing t-

I pulled my handgun out in what I hoped was my most threatening pose.
Hidden in the corner was what my first guess placed as a watermelon or some wierd basket ball. It was vibrating and occasionally making a little grunt.

I shuddered. This thing was alive.
I tightened my grip on the gun and moved in.

It seemed to have it's head stuffed in the corner.
Peering over- cautiously -I confirmed that it was it's head. Didn't seem scary. Seemed scared.
I lowered the gun.

I lift the gun back, aiming for the head.
It stares up at me with 6 black beady eyes. Still shivering but grunting less.
Cute.. but creepy.

I stood still and watched as it started to crawl on those stumpy little limbs.
I laughed out loud. It looked pathetic.
As if responding to my laugh, it started bobbing it's head excitedly and running in circles on the floor in front of me.
Could this have been why they had sent us here? All that training they had put us through, was it all for this adorable little critter?
"Or maybe you have some scary friends" I suggested to it. It just tilted it's head and purred.
"Well one thing is for sure..."
"...I wasn't expecting a little monster like you..."
"...so what else haven't they told us?"
I stared up at the alien sky of dusky brown.
At the alien sun that gave this place warmth.
So we finally knew we weren't alone. Life was out here too...
...and you looked so damn innocent.

Wow, that was so damn amazing, so much better then my Comic! ;D
The story-plot is much better, and I love the dialouge, the soft-hazy sun is also a good touch, my only problem was the darkness, you could've lightened a lil' bit I could've seen something, or did you do that on purpose for a more dramatic effect? ;)
Also I didn't know which text was supposed to be which picture, maybe you should link them to the picture somehow, like with a huge quote then put the picture and text in, that would've helped. I also like the comic-book bybird thing you did with it, it went well.
Well, I already saw that you quickly found ppl to help you with, and I'm happy that I've inspired someone to do better work then me, good job! Good luck with your project! :D

The darkness was probably due to the higher contrast I used for the inside scene. I styled it that way to give the sense of indoor lighting as opposed to the natural sunlight of outdoors.
I intended for the pictures to be seperate from the text. Such as when the granger is spotted, it interupts the text at the point you are supposed to view it. If it just ended up as confusing then sorry about that :>
I didn't find people to help :D I did it using multiple clients. Notice how they are all in thier rest pose :P I could have screenied a mid-animation shot using demos but that wasn't necessary in this case.
Thanks for your compliments ^^ I didn't expect to be working on it as much as I did, but I enjoyed making it :D

Aargh, the suspense is killing me! More pics!
-
Very nice, I was waiting for granger to evolve once his back was turned. :)
-
BTW, I'm on my good computer and now its showing the pictures with much higher contrast, either you brightened it or (most likely) It was just my monitor earlier. :P
-
cool. I like it. more plz.

LOL!
gj Nux!

Thanks :D
During the development of this, I left room for a lot of querky things to happen just in case any of them fit. As it turned out, the story worked best as simple, serious and lightly worded.
I won't necessarily continue this story. The ending speaks for itself and so anything I'd add would probably be set a lot further down the timeline and may follow someone else entirely. I would like to make more and though I'm too busy today, I might even make the next one tomorrow.
I'll take note of the text-picture confusion mentioned and will experiment with ways to make it more readable.
Thanks again for your approval and suggestions so far :) and please keep the comments coming so I can take note of anything else you might mention before I start work on the next one.

A love story between a boy and his granger... make it like romeo and juliet, the granger's tyrant dad and +goon mom don't want her hanging out with the human boy. And the human's Bsuit dad and larmour +helm mom?WTF? doesn't want him hanging with the granger. They both get pissed and tk their parents and live happily ever after....until the granger evolves and eats the human

Hmm, intresting idea...I wonder how hard it is to actually do it.. ;D

'A girl and her Granger' is a old Tremulous comic made by Mietz.

did it happen? ;-)

Nux, I love you.
-
I didn't realize how cute grangers really were.
-
Make more Nux! ;D
Also, are you still fixing that text-box problem? I know its not something huge to worry about, but I had to re-read it so I could understand which text went with which picture. :P
-
I might make more in the future, but I wouldn't count on it. I've moved onto animation now and am currently working on a little project that you should be seeing the fruits of somewhere in the next month or so. I might even work some of the comic ideas I had into animations.
I think for now I'll leave the comic stuff to you guys ;) Good luck!

if there is anything technical i can help with, don't hesitate to ask (well if its gonna be a machinima i cant, but if it will be in Anime Studio, Flash, or some Adobe weirdness, PM me!)!!!
