Title: Mouse Binding
Post by: Overdose on October 07, 2008, 01:44:11 am
I know, I'm full of questions today.

I've got a Logitech G5 mouse, it has 4 usable buttons plus the wheel. I can only seem to bind 4 of those - MOUSE1,2,3,4. *MOUSE5 won't work, it's the button that defaults to "Forward" for regular browsing*. I also tried using AUX1 and 2 but they didn't work either. Now I know the button works because I can use it right now, why can't I get it to reload?!

solutions: 1) don't use windows, or...
           2) use a recent client

The first one can't be helped because I still rely on a few programs that are Windows exclusive and of course not all of my games are *nix compatible.
My client is up to date, it's from SST using SVN755 I think.

Use a recent client with Timbo's custom-built SDL.dll :)

sst client isnt up to date its a modified 1.1.0

there's a lot of other clients that are made from more recent svns
tremfusion
mg client
fsm-trem
etc
there the clients kevlarman meant i can assure you that all mouse buttons work with any build from 1000+(whenever they did sdl everywhere ) i have a g9 and use all the buttons on it (Linux) i cant see windows limiting buttons

all the mouse buttons work on my mouse with tjw's original client, the higher mouse buttons not working is a problem specific to windows (both directinput and sdl), it's fixed by timbo's custom version of sdl.dll as amanieu mentioned

Tremfusion - Not released yet
MG Client - Ehh....not so great for me
FSM-Trem - Not released yet
etc - ?

I don't know how to compile and I don't like the MG client which leaves me SOL for now.

Newer SDL clients make Mouse4/Mouse5 work in windows, but if you have more than that you're stuck with external-to-trem hacks to bind Mouse6/Mouse7 to keys that you can then bind in Trem.

Would it help YourMama to just get an updated sdl.dll?

not if hes using svn 755 since input was not handled by sdl

Try using the software that came with your Logitech mouse. It's bloated and crappy, but if you are the type that needs to bind 7 mouse buttons, I don't think you would mind running MouseWare.

@ Amanieu - Oops my bad, I checked again and found the download. I'll try it tomorrow, thanks.

@ Bissig - I tried exactly that. I got the SDL file from the MG client and replaced the one I'm currently using, but it didn't make a difference.

@ Lava Croft - I'd rather stick to the default reload key than have to use their software. ;)
