Title: My Tremulous concept
Post by: nudie on October 09, 2008, 12:37:57 am
I think Tremulous should be Red vs Blue and have humans and aliens as sub-categories so no-one will have to wait to choose aliens or humans. Humans should also have the ability to ride on aliens in this Red vs Blue concept.

Ideas are all fine and rosy, but if you write it, I'll be impressed.

Red vs Blue

Red vs Blue with humans and aliens working together? Intresting.

Lets stretch that idea a bit though into making it a reality (As Lava always loves to do :P). First, you'll have to either:

1)  Make each player model red and each model blue then code the damn thing to get it to work.

or

2) Use some sort of client/Qvm/server-side/whatever command to 'tint' the models blue (If, of course that function exists in the game, if not, it'll have to be #1).

And what about the buildings? They'll have to be colored too (Back to painting them again) and then after all of that, code it so there'll be Blue vs Red teams with Humans/Aliens as sub-categories.

What about spawning? Does the egg become the main 'spawner', or does the node? One interesting idea is that You could be either human/alien in a team, IF you have the proper spawn for that team (Either telenode or egg). If not, you'll have to choose the race that does have their proper spawn and thier proper Rec/Om.

I could keep going on, but I'm saying all of this because your interesting idea just needs some reality checks to make sure to see how easy it'll be to do something like this. Now, I don't know why I'm up this late talking about this. I'll rabble on tomorrow, cheers!

I think they should spawn from portals or something. I am thinking of something like an egg with a giant hole in it. Something like a capsule.
Humans and aliens can both use the spawn as a creep.

So riflemans will block Tyr teammates too as dretches do in normal games, lol!

A more feasible idea is H vs H or A vs A games. There is some (not really stable) Qvm out there for that.

A vs A games are pointless, because a dretch fight is decided by which bite the server chooses to process first, and after that you can evolve into a class which survives one bit and one-hits a dretch, ending up with dretch vs. tyrant

You need to chase the other dretch till you bit his back hahah, that'll be really funny :D

in other words, make sure your team is in private slots and the other team isn't

If you had to do dretch fights, attacking would have to be on-click rather than auto-attack.

I would simply turn on dretch punt for A vs A matches. That would make very fair matches.

I'm sure it'd be possible to introduce a mechanism that ran your hit-test anyway if you died in the same frame that you fired.

So than... both dretches would die at the same time? Sounds fun.  ::)

I actually had a patch lying around somewhere which switched the player bodies if the teleported person hit another player. I.e. player A > teleport ----- destination (player B) will end up in player A having the B body, and positioned at destination, whether the player B has the A body and is in the last position before being teleported.

Which was meant to result in such exchanges as alien player having human body (humans can kill him, and base will attack him) or humans having alien bodies. It was a fun feature, but the A vs A and H vs H fights are quite pathetic, although fun if its not the main feature.

Edit : kevlarman, correct me if I am wrong, but unlagged can change the order of the hit detection if the innacuracy of the ping will be > FRAMETIME?

maybe if the entire team came from a telenode. i mean in reality an alien can come from a telenode but a human cannot spawn from an alien's egg. the human would pbe covered in goo and crap. but the alien spawning from a telenode would be fine. its a good idea it would just be a crapload of work. maybe if each team had a specific spot where the colour was placed. marauders could be blue instead of red. the rant could have red pincers. the dretch have a different coloured back. the goon could have differently coloured claw tips. i am basically just throwing ideas at you. maybe the humans hair colour could change? do all humans have brown hair in the future?
