??? Why is it that when i enter a server, the i get a message saying my client needs updating for me to be able to be admin on some servers and download maps faster, and the website it gives me "http://trem.tjw.org/backport/" then i take off the {backport/} part and at the top it tells me to:???
This server is no longer compatible with 1.1.0 clients. You will need a client binary compiled from svn 1048 or newer. Here are step by step instructions:
1. Make a new folder called TremulousTest
2. Make a new folder called "base" in TremulousTest
3. Copy data-1.1.0.pk3 from your existing Tremulous 1.1.0 installation folder into TremulousTest/base/.
4. Download these two files and also put them into TremulousTest/base/ (vms-1.1.1.pk3 and data-1.1.1.pk3)
5. Copy map pk3 files from your existing Tremulous 1.1.0 install into TremulousTest/base/.
6. Copy the client binary for your operating system into TremulousTest/ and run it. (Linux, Windows, Mac OS X)
7. If you're using Windows, you will also need to put SDL.dll in TremulousTest/
NOTE #1: Do NOT try to skip these steps by copying entire folders around. You WILL copy files you do not want.
NOTE #2: These binaries WILL NOT use files in your "Home Folder". They are built specifically for testing and will only look for data files under the folder that holds the binary.
NOTE #3: These binaries default to turning cl_allowDownload ON
:-\Is this what your meant to follow or the back port way in which how do i do it that way??? :-\
;DIt would be really nice if someone can help me out so i can get this problem fixed so i can get the things I'm missing out on!!! ;D
:police:P.S: If you could take the time to send a reply if you know how to fix my problem then plz send it to: stev246 at hotmail dot com and no unwanted e-mailing will be accepted or taken litely!!! (no off topic e-mailing) :police:

Download the backport (http://trem.tjw.org/backport/win32/tremulous.exe) and dump it over your current tremulous exicutable. probably something like C:/Program Files/Tremulous/tremulous.exe
His server isn't 1.1 anymore, but the backport is.
-
???So Basicly Replace it??? ???
-
yeah.

The color hurts my eyes >:(

Lol, I color my threads to make em' look pretty, but you replying with colors and over-using smileys is a bit much, tone it down and we can happily help you with you're problem without our eyes bleeding. :D
I hate your guts Syntac, for once again, reminding me of the god awful thread. :P
Now, I'm pretty sure you want to learn how to backport your client. First thing is to forget all the crap you just posted on this thread and read what I've have to say, it may help. The "client", is basically you're 'Tremulous.exe' program, found in [C:\Program Files\Tremulous] and inside that folder has a ugly-looking spider thing.
Looks like this:
That client you get when you first download Tremulous is called the "Vanilla" client, which basically means "The original/out-dated client".
Most servers that are now out for Tremulous uses updated clients created by modders helps the basic server run better, patches most bugs, and provides neat features. It also gives you something called a "Guid", which is basically a feature that allows server admins to give admin powers to other players, like you. First, go to this website:
http://risujin.org/tremulous/ (http://risujin.org/tremulous/)
Risujin, just one of the many awesome people in Tremulous, created a nifty backport that is easy to execute. There are other backports made by others, but lets try this one, because it is generally (in my understanding) the most commonly used backport. At first, you'll be "WTF HENDRICH, THIS WEBSITE HAS TOO MUCH SHIT, WHERE IS BACKPORT ARGGGGLOLOLOL!!!1!". Well, skip all the great information Risujin has until you get to the bottom of the page. it should say "Client Backport", and under it to the right is the backport files you want. The files are on the links where the yellow boxes are, just pick the file with your corresponding operating system.
If you're still confused where the backports are, here are the direct liks to the file (Sorry Risujin, but all the credit goes to you):
Windows Backport File:
http://risujin.org/pub/tremulous/backport-svn931-4-win32.zip (http://risujin.org/pub/tremulous/backport-svn931-4-win32.zip)
MacOS Backport File:
http://www.bandstand.org.uk/~benm/trem/client-svn911-ub-smp-3.zip (http://www.bandstand.org.uk/~benm/trem/client-svn911-ub-smp-3.zip)
Linux Backport File:
http://risujin.org/pub/tremulous/backport-svn931-4-linux.tar.gz (http://risujin.org/pub/tremulous/backport-svn931-4-linux.tar.gz)
Just, save the files on your desktop. For Windows (atleast), the files are in a zipped archive, so un-zip them on your desktop. Select and copy whatever the hell is inside the folder, and paste it in your [C:\Program Files\Tremulous] folder, if a window pops-up asking you to say "Yes to all" or "No" or "Something Else", just click on the "Yes to all" button. There, ta-da! You have your backport installed. Now the server won't ask you to upgrade your client anymore.
If what I just said didn't help you, or what I've just done isn't the awnser you weren't looking for, then I'm sorry. :)

i cant get my client working, it says in blue console COULNT LOAD DEFAULT.CFG and i have no i dea wat to do,i tried doing allthe other stuff but it just clusterd my desktop and stuff pls help!!!! =/ =)
-
Find the autogen.cfg copy it and rename it to default.cfg
Or, if you are smart enough, extract the default.cfg from the data-1.1.0.pk3 (pk3 is just a renamed zip file)
-
no, he has to download it to his application folder, not his DESKTOP.

How will either of them help? The aim isn't to get rid of the error message, its to get a working system.
Would you cut off your arm to fix a broken finger? (It'd stop the pain...)
You need to put the newly downloaded client in C:/Program Files/Tremulous/Tremulous.exe (rename the one that's currently there)
Then run it as you normally start trem.

Why even bother replying to another moron who thinks everyone is born with forum knowledge ?
err... wait, I just did that :-X .
However, I'd recommend Sehnsucht (or an admin perhaps) to remove his email address from here. Lots of email-crawlers around these days.

Yep, especially on larger forums like this one. :police:
