So, recently I started playing this game called Tremulous. At first I was terrible. Usually I progress and become better and usually becoming one of the better players. I thought I knew about the essentials of the game but apparently not. I would get 0 kill match after match. I thought I was just terrible until I evolved into a basilisk one day and snuck up on someone. I hit him 16 times. Yes I counted. I was getting frustrated and was trying to figure out why people could kill me in 2 or 1 hits but I couldn't kill them at all. I hit this person 16 times.
Point v
HOW can someone hit me with a drench 2 and I die every time hands down, while I hit someone 16 times with a basilisk and they live. And kill me.
Apparently I don't understand something so please, reveal this fucking reality of the game that I've clearly missed. I even had a tyrant. I hit someone 3 times and they didn't even flinch. They lived. And killed me.

As alien, always aim for the human's head. It does much more damage. Hitting the legs does very little damage, and hitting the body does moderate damage. But in general, always, always, always aim for the head. You don't even have to jump with any alien to hit a human's head.
As human, it does not make a difference. Hitting the aliens in the face does the same amount of damage as hitting them in the legs and body. Just practice dodging a lot, to make it harder for the aliens to hit you in the head.

is thou baslick king?
-
But I mean, 16 times. That's less than 7 damage each based on no armor. I DO aim for the body. I've NEVER been able to get a 2 hit kill even with a tyrant. I've never been able to get a 3 hit kill with a tyrant. I've yet to get a KILL at all other than a shotguns on the drench which usually took a few minutes at best!
-
Hmmm ... 2 tips:
1.) spectate other players (good ones) to get better :)
2.) check out the "wrath newbie training server". There you can train with bots and other players new to trem :)
-
Helmet and armor reduce damage significantly, battlesuit even more; I almost always buy helm+armor before weapon. Head = 2x damage, body = 1x, and legs = 0.5x; (dretch 48dmg, 96 on head), basi is actually weaker (32 dmg), and hitting legs on unarmored would take 7 hits without medikit, with light armor you receive 30 % of dmg to legs. Read Tremwiki (http://www.tremwiki.com/) for more stats. Basi is actually a very hard class to play, so better learn other classes first.
3 headshots with tyrant on a battlesuit is 120 damage, so they would need to heal at least 21 hp before 3rd hit. Helmet + armor needs only 2 rant headshots.
Also, some servers have ridiculous mods / allow cheats.
-
I DO aim for the body.
Don't aim for the body. Aim for the head. That is the most important tip for aliens I can possibly think of as aliens.
-
I bought a Battle Suit last yesterday. I was killed by one hit by a drench. And then last night, I went to the noobie server. I don't fucking get it...I bought the suit again, and a basilisk hit me twice and I died. But it takes OVER 16 for me on a guy you probably didn't even have armour.

You were probably playing at "c00|_ 3><T|/-\ m00|)3|) server". Next time use blaster, it usually has instant kill.
And when the freak we will be square free?
-
It takes time to get used to the game. The learning curve is high. Just go to an unmodded server and spectate the best players. You learn a lot just from watching.
-
Ok, the reason u die when a dretch bites u once is because they aim for ur head, it's called sharking. The come at u looking up at ur head and a head bite is 96 hp.
-
probably playing at like X or M or one of the single letter ones... cuz if it was like X, the dretch can kill at bsuit to the body in like 3 bites, and to the head in like <2 hits... so try going to the X server and going alien then point ur mouse up and jump and a hummys head ull kill um every time.

sharking? i thought it was called headbiting :[
-
Chances are he's playing on lagged servers, and he's probably unaware that he can't just aim at his actual target without having a lower ping.

It is. WTF is sharking?

Lol, sharking.

Dammit! Now I know what sharking is, and I'm very disappointed to know, because the first time I heard the word it was a bunch of fags complaining at a server about dretches "sharking." "Omg noob sharker. omg stop sharking."
Ruins the fun in using it without knowing the meaning.

And how the fuck do you figure THAT shit out? Last time I checked, humans don't have 96 hp, they have 100, so no, 96 hp isn't a one hit kill. And it's all too often that a headbite isn't enough against a human that can aim.
-
To be fair, headbite on a naked human is a one hit kill with poison. You can't physically react fast enough to activate the medkit
-
Actually, the delay between the bite and the poison could be anything from immediate to a 1 second delay (possibly more if the server is lagging)
-
So an average of 0.5 seconds. Chuck in 200ms of latency, and you're going to have to have medkit bound to w to do it in time.
-
You'd be surprised how many people have med bound to mouse1.

I bound it to mouse4(side mouse button) and I can get it working in time like 6-7/10 times.

i think binding it to shift works the best cuz slow walk is pointless in tremulous

I've bound it there too! :O Now I feel less special...
MX518 right?

Pointless?
You're missing out. Slow walk is used to gain ground while still regenerating stamina. I use it all the time!
-
Also used to make your bs and psaw not sound like a bs and psaw.
-
I have /bind [key] "sell weapons; sell upgrades; buy psaw; buy larmour; buy helmet; itemact blaster" which I have found to be quite useful when your base is being pummeled and you don't want your psaw to be detected.
-
Sounds like you are playing on one of the noskill servers (X, M whatever they are called) where its almost 1 hit kill with anything. In server list find a server that has between 0 - 100 ping. Aim for the head , even when on the ground you can look up and get a 96hp bite.

Lol, sharking.
Destined to take the place of the mud shark (http://www.snopes.com/music/artists/mudshark.asp) in your mythology.
On Topic: What happened to the OP? Not another casualty of Trem's steep learning curve and current crop of asinine servers? Oh noez!
-
just play on an unlagged server aka hit assist, you can't bloody miss
the americans like to think that it has some shite to do with ping
but at the end of the day it's hit assit. lagged servers for skillz.

That's really funny. When {A}saxon played on the AA server a few days ago (an unlagged server), he couldn't aim well at all. And here I thought "you can't bloody miss."
Anyone can say ignorant things about another's preference, but if you can't support it in the game itself, you just look like an idiot.
Have a nice day!
P.S.
Tip: jumping helps
