this is the official Amutrem Contest Thread
Deadlines: Sunday, november 23 to enter | Friday, December 17 before midnight(pacific time)

Rules:
1. Any act of plagiarism or cheating will be Disqualified
2. Maps MUST be turned in by midnight (pacific time) on the final date.
3. all maps will be posted in a separate topic labeled "Aumtrem Map:(name)" and they will be linked on this page
4. You are allowed to have only 1 Teammate who is also in the mapping competition
5. If you submit a map  that seems over the level of this competition, your map has the possibility to be disqualified by judges choice.
6. if you want to be in this Contest please private message me or post here.

Syntac, this competition is for people that suck lol, and if you want ill be your partner since mine left me and we can work on a map together,  because i cant do this just by myself.

I have great idea for a map! It will include boxes, lots of boxes! Repeatable textures! Fall-thru floors and lighting in places that shouldn't be! And I might add in 100% see-thru water, so the player will never know if he/she's drowning as a human or he/shes on solid ground!water, and why not add huge jump-pads that launch you 50-ft into the air? I want large, open spaces for the aliens and tight corridors for the humans and little vents that lead to nowhere.

It will the the greatest map in the world! And soon every Euro server will play it! Mwhahahahahaha! >:D

Join me Syntac, and you'll get this cool black cape! Its a chick Granger magnet! Who cares if fleash eater is making a balanced map  that looks decent? BORING, how about a map that makes you do weird jumping shit before you can get to the actual fighting? PERFECT! I am off, Radient, here I come!

When I said "I suck at mapping", I really meant "I have no mapping skills whatsoever". That said, I don't think I'd be a very good partner for this thing.

edit: ive decided im staying in, ;), as i may be able to finish my map in time because now i got my shaders and lighting working properly!!!

Aww :( You can still make the map, I think my map may be disqualified from what people are saying, but id still like my map to be judged anyways :) Make the map, and you and your friends can test it on my server if you want to. Its an aussie server so you may get higher ping, but im sure you can make a fun map :) Not all fun maps look great (Push cannon) but are still very popular. Make the map anyways and challenge yourself

thanks :p you were one of the ones i was worried about :p I may still enter, but im really not sure whether ill make the deadline. And i dont want to release a map thats shabby when theres brilliant maps like yours out there :p

thanks for the support, you made me change my mind. Your map looks great btw.

And i finally just figured out shaders and lighting! Ive been getting porblems with both of them for ages :D Im feeling great :)

Are there any plans to require/request mappers to include the .map in their submission? It would allow the judges to offer much more constructive feedback about brush techniques, etc.

I think I will. The only issues ive had with it is when ive given people my .map files only to see them rip off my work :( But I trust you guys are better than me anyways :D

achk! more problems! Making a first map is so hard, and its the second time this problems cropped up, it the crappy TW VERT EXCEEDED problem. WHich i dont understand at all, because after i searched, its apparently because some of my stuctures are too complicated?

possibly trying to add a 32 sided cylinder?  Try using a patch mesh, reducing the sides, and detail brushing it.

It sounds like that big room you made has too many sides. Try cutting the brush that makes the room in half?

hmm, thanks ill try it. The room im trying to make is two cylinders ontop of eachother with a cylinder connecting them, so that people can drop down the high one into the low one.

and by patch mesh you mean the curve>cylinder?

No, simple patch mesh (shift + p), press v, then move the vertices till it makea a semi circle. Copy/paste it till its a full circle.

If hes making a room out of a curve cylinder he wont be able to add doors etc. Unless theres a way to cut through cylinders?

He'll be able to move the cylinder's verticies to create a gap. He would have to create multiple patch meshes and move them himself, but it would work.

Amz you should:
1. make sure its caulked
2. make sure it isnt THAT big

Just a heads up, i had made a room along time ago that i loved but had no use for, so i started a WHOLE new map and added this room into the map due to Data loss and and issues with my teammate.   This map has been done this whole competition EXCEPT the 1 acory  room which shouldnt matter. ill post screenies of my work later

Akh, texturing is so hard! Trying to find textures which go together, while at the same time trying not to overuse some textures... Im nearing screenshot stage, it'll probably be a screenie of the base so :D

*Note to judges, as i had a ground glitch in my proper version (which I could not fix without changing the ground texture at the last minute) please ignore the file map-exploit.pk3 (unless you wish to view the glitched ground/proper map without the ugly ground i had to put in its place :( ). As such my final map for this competition is exploit-b2r, until I figure out how to fix the glitched ground issue for final release.

it may just be me, but your map doesnt show up in my list, and when i tried to devmap it, it said it didnt exist. The files in the right place with all the other maps.

I will do on the weekend, and if the judges are still "sleeping" i should be able to sneak in an entry.

I really like your map, but i get a low fps, but thats porbably just because my comps crap :p

How did you get that tube going through the stone? Ive been trying to do that for ages, i know how to make the tube, but how do you make the wall with a hole in it?

I propose we wait a few days for some other maps to 'slip in', otherwise there's not much of a
contest left. Nubcake deserves the early comitter bonus (and might use the additional time to add
some extra spice).

We moved the deadline once, we can do it again!
This contest ends Monday, december 22, 0h00min
The timezone doesn't matter, you can work as long as it is still Sunday in some part of the world.

After that, it is over, and I'll stick to that. Time is flexible, mapping must be fun,
and at the moment nubcake is winning! Can you do better?

i have been extremely lazy and haven't really done anything so i am out of the mapping contest. I have all these rooms just they aren't assembled in a reasonable way
