Title: QGL_Init: Can't load libGL.so.1 from /etc/ld.so.conf or current dir: No dyna....
Post by: computerquip on December 05, 2008, 12:38:38 am
Gentoo Linux USER:

I'm tried creating a symlink but /usr/local/games/tremulous/libGL.so.1 does not exist.

export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so.1 doesn't work.

emerge tremulous installed it inside of /usr/games/tremulous/ which seems to be fine but it it has a problem with the following:
QGL_Init: Can't load libGL.so.1 from /etc/ld.so.conf or current dir: No dynamic GL support in video driver

I use a nVidia GeForce FX5500...

eselect opengl show:
nvidia

Any Suggestions?

Which nvidia driver are you using? nv or nvidia? The open source nv driver has no GL support, you have to use the blob. Also paste me the output of locate libGL.

I do NOT use nv. I use nVidia's driver...

I've never used the locate command unfortunately and plus it asks me for a user database. I'll give you Gnome's Search Modules output though which should be the exact same:

Get a legacy driver here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html

And try:

glxgears in console/terminal

Geforce FX5500 Series is not part of the legacy series.
Or at least I didn't think it was, I'll look into it...

glxgears gives me about 300 fps a second.

Whats the difference between Legacy drivers for linux and non-Legacy drivers?
I'd rather not randomly install drivers all over the place, my system is fragile...lol

Legacy drivers are drivers for cards Nvidia deems "outdated". 300 fps is very low. I got more with my old GF2MX400. And with my - still old - GF4Ti4200 I get about 2000-3000 fps (might partially depend on the CPU though).

Maybe try to reinstall the driver. Check xorg.conf for errors.

LMFAO, FX5500 is a generation and a half ahead of the MX400. I don't think that is fps. That is Frames per five seconds.

I ran it again, I got about 2496 average...

It DOES seem that gentoo's 'emerge nvidia-drivers' is a version behind. Plus this may cause unusual problems with programs so I'll just install it manually. I'll post when I get behind..

Yooooo I kept that glxgears demo running and it got up to about 7000 FP five seconds...Wth? lol

Sorry for multi posting.

I installed the drivers. Settings were kept the same.

I find that Direct Rendering isn't available when I'm in a user mode but is when I'm in root.
Just a note.

Same problem though

Normally I'd say DRI permissions. But I might be wrong, I don't think nVidia drivers use DRI.. Check your Xorg config file. Should have something like this

Code: [Select]
Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection

It means you need to put Mode 0666 in your DRI section to allow non-root users to use DRI.

Tested it with and without and neither worked.

So:

I've tried exporting a Preload varible.
I've tried editing my xorg
Could someone send me a symlink command that could properly make a symlink because I'm not sure if what I'm doing is correct.
I've tried turning on direct rendering.

LD_PRELOAD won't help with anything, libGL is dlopened(), something you have apparently decided to not compile support for.

On the left it shows the frames run in 5 seconds, on the right it shows the resulting averaged frames PER SECOND. So, 7000 frames/5 seconds = 1400. which is only about 50 percent faster than my very old GF2MX400.

To answer your question, the fact that glxgears works means your system has OpenGL capabilities.
