Well, finished playing around with my first map. It's at
http://members.chello.nl/f.willemsen88/first.zip
for who's want to take a peek. Just unzip it in "quake3 directory"/baseq3/maps and type "/devmap first" in console in quake3.

That shit doesn't deserve to be called a map..
I hope you die a horrible, horrible death.
-
also remember sv_pure 0
patches, working triggers, doors, rotating stuff, shaders all looking like they're supposed too and a not too awfull attempt at outside the window stuff.
Now go forth and make something that looks nice, dont use excessive entities (ie dont use them except for lights, doors and decoration) or shaders, just make 2 or 3 rooms that your proud of when you stop and look at them. Use as many or as few textures as you deem necessairy and try out different lighting methods (entity, brush/shader), play with lighting lots.
and (disgruntled idiot) stop impersonating Who so poorly, Who is endearing next to you.

NOT MY FAULT HIS MAP SUCKS!!!!!
-
Notice the name when loading the map, it's not intended as a serious play map, more to get familiar with mapping stuff. But it's still nice to get some feedback.

As one who made a similar mistake but during the days of q2. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER
EVER
release your first map.
Standard rule of thumb. It's fine if you want to learn your editor, or get techniques down pat, but by the gods never ever show it to anyone else.
And for Who no I'm not talking IceStation8 from gloom fame. That was actually my first real attempt, my first map EVER was by far more horrible, ugly and filled with so many design flaws it would make you swear off ever playing quake 2 again
Well that's not true, my first map ever was a layout of my trade college for a doom 2 fund raiser and it turned out pretty decent but in terms of actually 3d maps Pool Party and Lava Walk were my two firsts
-
Yes, first rule of thumb. Never release your first map. I taught a lot of mappers in the Gloom community that rule by being a reviewer at the GMD. Now pardon me while I laugh sinisterly....uwahahahah!

Infernal secret dutch mafia! Plotting against us! Satannum shall perish!@#

But I released my first map for gloom... it was sewers. Wasn't it great? I'm sure you all love it because I see it in map rotations, then I join the server and someone flings poo at me. Go fig.

That was your first map? I likes that map...
-
I dont
-
DOLBY!!!!! Why did you just disappear like that? No one in TM has been able to catch you. If you wanna do some more sounding for NS, you should write a mail to def right away. Defcon-x@planetquake.com

Ogun,
Defcon and the gang need to list me as a freelancer or contributor on their website at the very least. He said multiple times he would be never got around to it.
I'll respond to them once they do. I've done enough work for them at this point to gain that status. I'm not mad at them, just a little disappointed.

You could try talking to democritus about that, he's dealing with the website-related stuff. And don't take it personally if def didn't add you as a freelancer, he's just very busy. Try talking to demo about it.
-
Typical TM speed! Dont be dissapointed, TM just never gets things done at a normal tempo. But they could have atleast noted you though.
-
I talked to someone about it (don't remember who, maybe def). He talked about you (dolby) never replying to their mails or whatever. He also told me not to worry about it, some new sounder (a pro one) is helping out with the sounds now.
-
Just to set the record straight with def, I asked him when he was putting me on the site. He always said 'next week, next week'. Then emailed me asking for more sounds after I did all those for him.
If he doesn't know why I was tiffed and why asking me for more sounds after I ignored him made me even more tiffed, I'm glad I left the project.
Tell him good luck with his new sound engineer, but ask him to include me in the credits for the sounds I did do for him if you happen to speak with him again. Thanks.

Sure, I'll mention it next time I speak to him over icq.
-
Just talked to demo about it, he said you'll be added under credits for sure.
