Title: Newbie question about cheaters
Post by: AngryAnt on December 24, 2008, 03:58:13 pm
Hello,

Hope this hasn't been posted about recently, and did have a look at the search for something roughly alone these lines but didn't really find anything.

Basically wanted to ask while downloading the game, how are the cheaters in this game? Since its open source, and after browsing the forums, starting to get a little worried that the game is rife with them  :-[. Can someone clear it up for me please? :).

Cheers, and hopefully see you in game  ::)

If you play on good servers, chances are there won't be any cheaters. Try AA or DretchStorm.

On most popular servers you will not find any, since there are plenty of admins there and as far as I reckon, the novelty of cheating in tremulous has worn off so the delinquents left. Have fun with the game, read the readme, and don't get discouraged by pro-s ;)

Ehm??!

Seriously though, there aren't all that many cheaters around and some people really are just that good with a massdriver, despite outraged cries of ZOMG AIMBOTTAR!! from the assembled noobs.

Can't talk about dretchstorm (though the bouncing snipes suck), but if you play on AA, don't camp or insult admins by calling them something like 'juvenile', as both are bannable offenses.

The extent to which cheaters and griefers influence the game is largely server-specific. Much like any other game, open source or proprietary, well-maintained servers that have decent admins are generally kept clear of cheaters, and likewise cheaters often frequent outdated servers that are known to lack good admins.

Um...maybe I just don't play on those servers enough to come across any aimbotters. Sorry for the misinformation. ::)

Oh, it's not that, it's the fact that you gave them as examples of good servers... ::)

Yeah AA's server is retarded. They ban kids for spamming/being annoying, aimbotting, deconning, AND try to have a bit of fun with the noobs, those faggots.

Play on D*S for good clean games where the 12 year olds are left to frolic and annoy the other players.

Okay, apparently they've gone quite a bit downhill since I last played on them. :(

Aside from the bitching about the servers mentioned here, just make sure you play on administrated servers to get the best experience. And don't cry wolf just because someone made a move you are not yet able to copy .)

Unfortunately, pure servers are not the way to go. I usually play on KoR's Tremx.
