Just thought I'd see who's interested. Might be interesting in seeing how it plays out.
If enough of you seem interested, I'll start off a role-play thread.
EDIT:
Player1 is in charge of the background story. We should be able to get this whole thing up-and-running very shortly in this case.
It'll be the-quick-and-the-dead when I put up the character lists, so keep an eye on this board if you want to take part. We are assuming there will be about 6 avaliable slots for characters, and you will be restricted to one character (except for me, who may take a main character and play the role of the OM. I organised the bloody thing, I did).
From now on, this thread will be used for planning and out of character (OOC) discussion. There will be a seperate thread for the actual role-play.
Good luck everyone. I hope this goes well and that we do it again.
-
First off, why did you stick this in Written Lore? This thread seems better to stick it in Mod Ideas (Unless I got the idea of this thread totally incorrectly). :P
Second of all, it sounds like a good idea. A leveling up system with the alien classes or the human's equipment doesn't sound too hard to make, its possible to make a game like that with RPG Maker or Game Maker. The question is, what kind of RPG? I was wondering if you were talking about Runecrap, I mean, Runescape-like RPG, Final fantasy style RPG or maybe Fire Emblem RPG, etc (I don't know the proper names for those RPG styles).
-
I think he means a non-software RPG.

I think he means a non-software RPG.
Ah, I guess I got it wrong then. But, may I ask how this works then?
-
If you've ever played a Dungeons and Dragon's esc game, you should have an idea of how it will look.
I might be interested, we'll see how it goes.
-
Games with words? Count me in. Need backstory?
click either my sig, or that of the poster above
-
Well, I think there's enough interest. I'll write up a brief background (with inspiration taken from P1's thread), character lists and rules.
-
Can I be the granger?
-
D&D style gameplay? Sounds interesting, but I wanna be the dretch then- with the wizards hat!
-
Tremumon Trading Card Game or World of Tremcraft!
do eeeeeet
-
I put on my robe and wizard's hat.
-
I think you guys have a misunderstanding of what I have planned.
I mean this (http://roleplayerguild.com/) sort of RPing.
-
This would be pretty sick. Let's do it.
-
So, basically we make up a story and everybody advances the plot with our own contributions?
-
Let's do it!
-
But, what should it be about?
It should relate to Tremulous, and fit the image Tremulous represents. Also, whoever starts it off might want to consider thinking ahead of time what the general idea of the story should be.

I was actually into a bit of roleplay a few years back, as an escape from reality. It can be relatively fun if you find a good story to go along with.
-
Hmm... a good story. Now where can we find one of those? :)
-
Seriously, though, I'd be down for this.
-
Feel free to use as much of this (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=9645.0) and this (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=9805.0) as you like. It's all open source, and based on this (http://www.tremulous.net/about/). 8)
Cheers!
P.S. If anyone knows who wrote "The Visit", I'd be interested to know.

Believe it was Who.

Copy that.
Thanks.
On Topic: Standing by.

Believe it was Who.
Who?
-
Who?
The guy who likes bumsex. ::)
-
Who?
Trying not to be homophobic.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
-
Who?
Is on third..
-
@OP/respondents: Still down for this, if/when.
-
Well, I'm stumped coming up with a background story, so I was wondering if anyone would be interested?
-
I offer for your consideration this story:
scene 1 (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=9645.msg151228#msg151228)
scene 2 (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=9645.msg151258#msg151258)
Now, who do you want to play: the clone or the drone?
-
Who?
Is on third..
I'm taking you to vegas!
I'm slightly interested in this, i'll keep popping back in for updates. M04R supp0rt f0r m04r 4cti0n!

Well, I'm stumped coming up with a background story, so I was wondering if anyone would be interested?
No problem. What flavor of scifi/fantasy would you like? Posthuman Cyberpunk? Metahuman Science-Fantasy? Transhuman Military Hard Science Fiction? The New Baroque Space Opera?
I count six or seven interested individuals. Any preferences as to the scenario, gents? I can throw a backstory together in about half an hour, once you all weigh in on what you'd like it to be, and we can arrive at a totally arbitrary consensus. Or just choose any fragmentary story from the Q: TJ: TFZI thread or Seffy's DoaM thread.
Let's hear it: Who wants to play what flavor of textual pretending? Any ground rules? Let's do this thing. My "shift" finger is itching. :P
-
Lets do DoaM II: Hell on Tremor >:D >:D >:D
On a less comical note, I'm up for a bit of post-human cyber punk.

Ok. I have the rules all written up, so you don't need to worry about that.
I think, for Tremulous, we would be better off going for some Transhuman Military Hard Science Fiction (sorry to those of you who were really looking forward to some cyberpunk). No alien characters (unless someone wants to be the OM). We could have some clone characters (or commandos, which would probably add more flavour), a Haos Redros Corp representitive (corrupt, of course), a love interest (duh) and maybe a cocky pilot. Lets keep this classic Sci-Fi. Don't be afraid to steal ideas from other fictions, and lets try to keep this as gritty and real as possible.
Once your done, post up the backstory and a list of the characters along with their relationships with other characters and traits. I'll start a new thread about it to keep it clean.

I call dibs on the OM. :overmind:

A Simple Insertion, by Terrible North Wind, Professional Data Analyst and Project Deployment Administrator, Neano Two's Old Moon, OSSZ
It should have been a simple mission. Get in, place a node or two, start printing Ked clones, and get the hell out. Yeah. Sure. Want to buy a planetoid in Brindus?
There were nine of us on the dropboat: two Tremblers to control the clones - a kid called Prime and some girl known as Shin; a couple of autonomous CoKA commandos - Jed and Ned; a crazed insertion team leader they called Gunny - what a fuck-up; an over-stimmed bonepiece-wearin' stiff from Corporate Investor Media Relations - the jackoff's name was Oberreiter, but we all called him Simmer; the drunkest dropboat pilot in the whole Merc fleet - some washed-up old Guilderguide who called himself Slim (that fat fuck); and the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life - a Dr. Johae Ha, who just happened to be our medical officer. Oh yeah, and me, of course. Where would those idiots be without a drone to wipe their asses and flush their poopies?
The jumpship had brought us here from Sirius - at least the systems that were close to Firststar were being swept clear of the menace. I think the Guilderguides messed up the alignment, because it took nine jumps to get here, and we only ended up a couple of systems away. But they swore the job was important. Some big deal, but only the jackoff from HR could unseal our orders, and then only a layer at a time. We'd have to reach a certain waypoint at a certain time, and then we could get the next set of instructions, and continue. If we didn't make a waypoint in time, we'd have to abort. Yeah, that's what I want to do: Start a mission, and then drop it and run, leaving lots of enemies alive to shoot at my back. Abort? Fuck that. Kill 'em all, and let the mop-up crew sort the carcasses.
I had a bad feeling when Simmer showed up, and told us the deal. I mean, that's my job. HQ was really gonna keep the drone in the dark, just like one of these dunderheaded pinkskins? First Gunny tries to tell me what to do, and then Simmer tells him to shut up, and starts telling us all that he's in charge, that our orders are secret, and that even he doesn't know what they are.
"Wait a minute," I said. "I thought the gig was just to place a couple of nodes, and get the hell out."
"Those were our orders up until we disengaged from the jumpship. Now that we're in orbit I've got different orders."
"Oh, yeah?" asked Gunny. "And what would those be?"
It was just the three of us. We were in the chart room. The others were all in harnesses, ready for the drop.
Slim called back from the cockpit. "Hey, this is a fucking dropboat, not a fucking spaceship, boys. You wanna hurry it up back there? We're decaying fast, and I've really got to take a piss."
"You're decaying fast, you fat fuck," said Gunny, but it was partially muffled by the sound of Simmer irising the hatch.
So was the sound of Slim yelling, "Fuck you, Gunny." That was OK. It wasn't as if we hadn't heard it a thousand times before. They'd argued the whole way out.
"Look, as far as I can tell you, we've got a new mission," said Simmer.
"So you say," answered Gunny. "As insertion team leader, I at least need to know what the fuck we're actually supposed to do down there."
"I can tell you this much," replied Simmer. "We're supposed to find something called the Übergeist and destroy it."
"You mean the Overmind," I said.
"No, drone, I know what an Overmind is. This is the Overmind that controls all of the Overminds in this sector."
"Get the fuck out of here-" Gunny began, and then we were all thrown against the bulkhead.
"Oh, shit!" I heard Slim say from the cockpit, "that can't be good."
"What the hell is going on?" roared Gunny, scrambling over Simmer to retract the hatch.
"Gunny-" said Slim, and he sounded commandingly calm.
It stopped Gunny in his tracks. "What?" he said.
"You have exactly two seconds to strap in."
He was wrong. We didn't even have one second.
And then we were falling. Burning in. Crashing planetward. A screaming meteorite filled with eight screaming pinkskins. And one pissed-off drone. Stupid Humans. I couldn't wait to retire. What the hell was I doing out here with these idiots? I should never have taken this gig. I swore right then that if I survived I was finally gonna buy that place on Plowshare, and raise pippo-herding lion-dogs. If I survived.
Yeah, the thing about this gig? This gig sucked.
47 minutes, nothing but net

Characters
Prime, an Empath from the CoY Scout Corps
Something of a reactionary recidivist, Prime, a young man from Firststar system, is an Empath with the NZP's EKSTECY program who has been conscripted into the Council of Youth's clone control squadron. He insists that not only is he of Ur-Welt lineage, that he is completely Unmodified. He even surgically removed the bonepiece from his own head, and wears an ancient Stimsen StickTM instead. He has been redeployed to the Extraordinary Rendition Center on Multa several times for disciplinary action, but appears to have a patron among the Rigel-Kentish Firelords who has been able to repeatedly secure his release. Although he appears to be a young man of Rock Hopper blood, there are those who claim he is far older, even some who swear that he is a Guilderguide spy, sent to infiltrate the New Zion Project, and the secret goings-on in the Fractal Zion Cluster.
Shin, an Empath from the Young Guilderguide Girls
Shin is a young woman, too old really to be called a girl anymore. She met Prime when they were both at the ERC on Multa. He removed the bonepiece from her maxilla, and fitted her with an exoware Stimsen WearablesTM rig. There are those who say that they are lovers, while those who know both of them say that the relationship is much more like brother and sister. With eggplant-colored hair and several nodal piercings, Shin is not completely Unmodified, but she does say that it "just feels good to get Haos Redro the fuck out of my head." When not controlling several CoKA units at once, she enjoys covering the crew with outlandish henna tattoos in indecipherable magickal scribblings, and kicking anyone's ass who looks sideways at Prime. She used to be a gallery girl for GearUP 3nd0w4r3zTM, and before that she peddled pr0nstix and bootleg vvd's in Old Neopolis. She says the Guilderguides Girls saved her life. She says she's not completely Unmodded, and although she's not completely Original, she's pretty sure she's a Master Dub.
Jed & Ned
Jed and Ned, The CoKA Commandos, have been around for as long as anybody can remember. They were two of the original Automat Units, and even survived a metatemporal insertion into the Fire-bat Eradication Wars. Since they both look exactly like Ked, it's really hard to tell them apart, but anyone who knows them well knows that Ned can't pronounce the letter "J", and continually calls Jed "Zed". Just to mess with Prime, they also like to claim that they are completely Original and Unmodified, and often argue loudly about which of them is actually the Real Ked Ambrit, while disclaiming the other to be a mere copy, and a poor one at that. It's quite possible that they are more than just friends and comrades, but that's just one drone's opinion.
Master Gunnery Sergeant McMaster "Gunny" Cordex MacDunwright
Gunny is a hardened battle veteran, a fully licensed and registered duplicate of his late, beloved clone-father Brevet-Major General McMaster "Iron Balls" Dexrod MacDunwright. There are those who say that Gunny will never measure up to the old man, but he knows that he will, or die trying. And if he dies, he's got a Nine Lives clause in his re-enlistment orders that will let the Merc Militia make up to ten new copies of whatever remains of him they can find. One, of course, will be purely for archival purposes, to be buried next to the remains of his sainted sire, in the ancestral Hall of the Dunwright Sons, on the world of their forefathers, the martial society of the planet Swordsmith.
Jesu-Esau "Simmer" Oberreiter
Simmer has been with Corporate Investor Media Relations since Haos Redro got booted out of the Pink Corridor, and forced to instead pursue ventures in the New Far South. This arthrosaur infestation has really gotten to be a big pain in the ass. Frankly, he's sick of it. I mean, isn't there some kind of product or service that these reptilian bugs could be buying from HR, instead of all this money spent on killing? Oh well, at least he had the foresight to be heavily invested in Tumbo stock. Who cares about the fate of the omniverse? As long as they keep making Mass Drivers and Luci Cannons, he can continue to have three lovers in different systems, each a jump away from the next, never guessing of each other's existence. And since they are all creature-people - "furries" - of the Unvanquished megaclan, his boss back at Corporate never better find out, either. If anybody knew he was a freak-fucker, he'd wake up in a hanging cage on Multa, without so much as a Neopolitan tritium-thaler in his accounts. It made him gassy - and turgid - just thinking about it.
Fractopolis Fats "Slim" Dirgebottom
Fractopolis Fats "Slim" Dirgebottom is a low-res dub of the Original Fractopolis Fats Dirgebottom, who used to make his living in a dupeshow, a traveling snake-oil carnival of duplicated flesh, various dubs and dupes of famous people jumping around the OSSZ, playing lookalike for the rururban rubes of Bumfuck Nowhere. Not only could he shoot surround-snooker as good as (some said better than) the Original Fractopolis Fats, he looked exactly like his brother, Southerboy "Slim" Dirgebottom, one of the most infamous Guilderguides in the Executrix's Navy, the son of a bitch who helped Ked kill the FZEF and those poor settlers. "Reprint them all," my ass. What a fucking callous thing to say. After his drinking ruined his aim at s-snooker, Slim the Dub became a Guilderguide himself. Said if he couldn't do the job of his real dad, who he didn't look like, he might as well do the job of his fake dad, who he did look like. His drinking didn't help his aim much at that job, either. Now he's a washed-up has-been, assigned to pilot a bunch of ignorant fools to their fates on a worldlet that's not even on the charts. He knows it's a suicide run, but he's not sure who he's supposed to take down with him.
Doctor Johae "Jane" Ha
Johae Ha has degrees in xenohuman medicine, xenozoology, xenomorphology, and xenopathology from the renowned Omniversity Collegial at the prestigious Institute for the Historiography of Technology. She also enjoys studying ancient techniques of stealth, breath control, contortion, hand-knife surgical techniques and the ways of the kitchen-witch and hearth-shaman. When not dissecting unique, new, previously-unheard-of specimens on uncharted planetoids in far-off locales of exotically chic solarities, she can usually be found with some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend. (Wife of a close friend.)
Terrible North Wind, a Poignantly Devilish Advocate
TNW, a drone unit of lastcen manufacture, has been leading HR Holdings insertion teams since your clone-father's clone-father was but a smear on a slide. What the fuck are you lookin' at, clone-son?
The Übergeist
The Übergeist eagerly awaits the arrival of this latest team of pinkskins. It has developed a taste for clonal pineal gland, and wonders how much sweeter must be that of an Original Unmodified.

posters, in the order that they posted:
Kaleo (ÜG?)
Hendrich (subsidiary OM?)
Syntac
mooseberry
player1 (wants to be the drone)
taiyo (dibs on granger)
Plague Bringer
seffylight
Geni3
Are you guys in or out, and who do you want to be:
Prime, Shin, Jed, Ned, Gunny, Simmer, Slim, Jane, or TNW?
I wrote the durn thing, so I want dibs on the drone, unless someone really insists (a writer needs his ghostly machine). I say we give Kaleo dibs on the Übergeist, since he started the thread, and let Hendrich be a subsidiary OM (someone has to be the Humans, guys). What's it gonna be: Trembler psy-freak, young Guildergrrl, battle-crazed Ked clone_1 or 2, batty combat junkie, corporate tool, besotted astragator, ravishing xenoscientist, or grumpy old drone?
I count nine posters and nine characters (plus the Übergeist).
Enjoy it.
Fiction. Made to spec. Cheers.

player1 can neither confirm nor deny that all of these vicious falsehoods about the character of one Ked Ambrit were fully informed by the mad finger-tappings of Anti-Corporatus, Singer of Skaldings to the Hordes of the Brindipese, but begs that you seek the truth at Tremulous: About
-
@Kaleo: OK, there you go. If I don't check back immediately, I'm assuming you will DM the MUD. I will play any characters no-one else wants, patch any continuity holes, continue to flesh out any missing details from the cryptic backstory, and generally support you however I can. Thanks for the request; it forced me to just write, and not second-guess myself all day. Once you told me the ingredients, I just put them together according to an old recipe. I hope the resulting dish is not too plain; I added a little dash of some of the old Querulous sauce, for flavor, and to give it that slow-simmered taste (when I really just whipped up an Omelet de Blishniven). :P
Cheers!
P.S. Keep the drone alive for a little while. It won't matter that he's silent. Sometimes he doesn't talk to the Humans for days. 8)

Dibs on corporate tool. I can totally do that. Not going to fuck a furry.

Well.
Thanks so very, very, very much for your help player1. I'll start the proper RP thread right away. I am, however, going to allow the players to pick their characters, as I belive that one should be given some level of choice in this, but I'll let you choose whoever you want first, since you did all this hard work.
May you become a succesful writer of novels,

lol'd
@Arch: Hey, that's just what the drone thinks. It's not gospel or canon yet. Like Kaleo said in the other thread, pick one and write your own introduction for him/her/it. Maybe his mother was a furry, and he's trying to pass himself off as a full-blooded Unmodified Original (since he works for image-conscious Haos Redro). Some of the Unvanquished characters are nymphs, as in naiads and nereids, as in mermaids. See that thread for details. Also, who is to say that the dude isn't a spy of the Unvanquished megaclan, and a creature-person himself? Plus, it's quite possible that the drone is full of shit, and has no idea what he's talking about. C'mon, you can't quit that easy. It's an open-source story. If you don't like it, rewrite it. Have him be a closet merman who is also a ladies man, and he's got a safe harbor in every port (if you know what I mean). Hell, you can have him be having an affair with both women in the story, and the drone will be completely surprised. That's why I wrote the backstory from the perspective of the drone. Maybe he's an unreliable narrator. By furries, I mean that some people think that they are actual fox-women and werewolf-demons, but it is quite possible that they are wearing costumes, masks, helmets or armor that makes them appear to be creature-people, but they really aren't. So far everything I've written in all three threads is totally open-ended, and freely re-interpretable by the end-user. If you want, you can even change the gender, and the person from Corporate is a woman whose boyfriend is a daemon, and that is her disturbing inner conflict. It is science fiction, after all, and two thousand years in the future. I've been stretching the boundaries for awhile now. See the sig-linked fanfic thread, and the image links in the Unvanquished thread. Stick around. Tell me what you want, and I'll tailor the character's backstory for you. I just made that stuff up to have something down on paper, as a starting point. I'm willing to completely redo any character's backstory, if the player really hates it. I consider it a challenge.
:) 8) :D
Cheers!

@Kaleo:
No worries. I had fun doing it. Working on a deadline with known parameters is really good for producing a first draft quickly. Thanks. :)
Yeah, players can pick whomever they like. I wrote the backstory from the perspective of the drone, but I will play any and all unused characters, and help you kill off a couple, too. My job is to make the hero hurt.
Thanks for the good wishes.
@players:
As I said above, if anyone wants to play any of the characters, but wants specific changes, I'll be glad to do that for you, or, if you like, please feel free to change the characters in any way you desire. It is a completely open-source fiction, and yours to freely reinterpret, as you see fit. It relies heavily on concepts already extant in both the Querulous and Unvanquished threads, as well as the original Tremulous backstory, to be found at the webpage Tremulous: About. I would also like to point out that the material in both the fanfic and the three-faction threads has an extremely questionable truthiness factor: that is, the whole point of the fiction is to make the reader doubt and question the wholly unreliable mob of liars, yarn-spinners, truth-stretchers, tale-tellers ass-coverers, and bullshit-artists who inhabit the Q: TJ: TFZI virtuality, and to point out the uniqueness of each individual experiential omniverse. In other words, it's an extended monologue on the nature of truth. There isn't any. We all make our own. Feel free to make yours anywhere in my story you like. It's people like + OPTIMUS +, who constantly and lovingly disagree with me vehemently, that really inspire me to write.
Cheers!
As we say in the theater: Standing by, on your cue.
If anyone is interested in the drone Terrible North Wind, as Hendrich can tell you, he spends his time yelling at clones in that other thread. Peace.

I put on my robe and wizard's hat.
Shut up you sick minded fool. (I think)
Oh and on topicish, I was going to offer to contribute to the story but than I saw the few thousand paragraphs that other guys had already written so... meh.

Write the second scene. We're all in the dropboat, and it's crashing. Who are you, and what do you do?
(I say we do three acts, and then we play your story.) :P ;) :D
Possible tentative structuring method (Tremulous Teleplay Prose Jam 2009!):
I propose that we add some structure, to help people along, and to encourage competition and cooperation. Here's what I think. We write what is basically a Tremulous teleplay, in three acts, of (usually) three scenes each. After the original poster puts up an opening scene and characters, players try to contribute to the next scene. If a poster can write the next scene, including proper dialogue for the other characters, we continue on. If they choose not to, they can contribute just the thoughts, words and deeds of one (or several) characters; say the characters split up into sub-groups, or get separated. Whoever writes the last bit of the final act can post the next story. No double-posting, within 24 hours. After 24 hours a double-post is allowed, but then an additional 24 hours must pass until the next consecutive post by that character (in case you are writing multiple characters).
Discuss?
P.S. I just kinda wrote a template of a first draft. I've never played this game before. Somebody mess around with it, or write another one, please. I tried to make the characters gritty, but they're not that unlovely are they? Nobody wants to be the drunken dropboat pilot? No-one wants a chance to play + OPTIMUS +'s fictional alter ego? Nobody wants to completely derail a player1 story?
-
Nobody wants to be the drunken dropboat pilot?
I do. ;D

"You have exactly two seconds to strap in."
He was wrong. We didn't even have one second.
Well you DID have 2 seconds. He just spent them telling you about it. :P
Some suggestions:
We need more emotions than anger here! Yes, it's a frustrating situation but different people react to stress in different ways (and a good RP needs a range of personalities). Seems like everyone is just complaining about everything.
Also, since we're setting the scene here it would help to describe the environment more (or at least how it makes the characters feel). Things like that do more to get you into character.
P.S. Kaleo has quoted his post in the main thread when he meant to edit it.

Actually, they started falling at the beginning of the next sentence. The drone just filled you in on how he feels about the situation whilst the ship is falling. Anyone can pick up the action from the point where Slim tells Gunny to strap in. Pick a character, and make with the key mashing. Feel free to do a flashback sequence.

That's not everyone, it's only four of the nine characters. The other five haven't said a word yet. Pick one and show us how they feel about being in a plummeting dropboat. For a wider range of emotion than just anger and frustration, see the fanfic thread, wait until Scene 2, or just jump in and play a character who is not a pissed-off, cursing mass of angry frustration. Remember, Scene 1 is told from the point of view of the drone. It's possible that he is an entirely unreliable narrator.
Also, since we're setting the scene here it would help to describe the environment more (or at least how it makes the characters feel). Things like that do more to get you into character.
I was leaving it open-ended, so others could participate in creating the "world" of the story. It can be more specific, if need be. The environment is a small ship which is currently heading for a face-plant on a small planetoid. Pick a character and show us: How does that make you feel?
P.S. Kaleo has quoted his post in the main thread when he meant to edit it.
Duly noted.
If there is a particular character you'd like to play, I will happily flesh out that character's backstory, add a broader range of emotional content, and provide more details about the situation, scenario, and setting. If I get a chance, I'll post a little addendum, just for you. Now who is it going to be: beautiful scientist, gung-ho team leader, corporate shill, clone commando, or empathic clone-controller?
Thanks for the input. Criticism is quite helpful. If you would like to write some of the missing details, feel free to jump in. When I get a chance, I'll add another perspective on the situation, in a different character's voice. Since I would also like to play, I resisted the impulse to make the intro omniscient, and went for a first-person report. This is the first time I've ever played this game.
Cheers!
P.S. Simmer hasn't cursed or raised his voice yet. He seems the picture of calm resolve. We only know that the drone and Gunny are foul-mouthed malcontents. Slim is just returning the sentiments Gunny has shown him. Maybe deep down inside, they are both hurt little boys, whose clone-fathers never hugged them. Help us to find the cause of their anger and frustration.

C'mon you lazy bums, sign up already!

Woo! Good job Player1 ;D
I'd better be Jane now, lest some fiend were to give a disparaging or otherwise unflattering account of her dearest hubby Nux. He's such a brilliant man who is so kind and fun and sexy and... >.> There's something horribly masturbatory about this.
It was a worry of mine that the players would start telling each other what they were getting involved with, without giving everyone a chance to get used to thier characters and the flow of the RP. Having each character start the RP off seperate from the others and having to find each other sounds like a good way of giving them this time.
So are we going to have restriction on how much a post can add to the plot? And I think we'll need some more players before we add anything else.

Ahh, Nux: ye of structure and consensus
join Syntac and I: prosily - defenseless
write from the heart and see

((Sorry, drafting off the fresh energy of actual Human interaction. Thus the RPG becomes an RTS. Thanks much for the inspiration, as always, and don't forget to check out the reference to your "character" in that infamous and shuddersome tome of arcane lies and insensible inarticulations, The Book of Lux (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=9645.msg148605#msg148605). If you'd prefer another character, take one. The hatchet job that I will do on the character (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=9645.msg148595#msg148595) of Prof. Nux when Jane activates his clone-son will not be pretty. Of course it is all just hear-say and Brindipedic speculation, unless one reads the words of the man himself... I really envisioned you as the voice of the Science of Science in the 41st century. As always, feel free to start a completely independent character, or kill off a couple of these. Cheers!))

You guys amaze me - alot! Keep on going wild! :-)
-
So, quick question. For the RP topic, can I still be allowed to be the Overmind or do I have to choose from the list of playable humans? My fingers are twitching to just jump right into this activity. :P
-
I think that you would be better off going as one of the playable humans, simply because the OM's are under the direct symbiotic controll of the Übergeist. If you really want, you can play an OM, and I have no objections to this, but I think you would have a more enjoyable time as a human character.
-
Hmm, I'll consider that. Maybe I will play as one of the humasn, thanks.
-
Hmm, I'll consider that. Maybe I will play as one of the humasn, thanks.
You would be funny as hell as the Clone Commando Ked-Unit Twins: Jed and Ned. Remember, they like to mess around with Prime, pretend to be St. Cedric (the Original Unmodified Ked Ambrit, His Actual Self), and Ned says "z", whenever he means to say "j". So he would say: "Zezus, do we have to drive all the way to New Zersey, zust for a cup of zava?"
Whenever the Humans fight a subsidiary OM, you will also get to be the level boss, since Kaleo gets to be the end boss, the Übergeist.
@bissig: I always think of the OM as female, so I was going to say Die Übergeist, but I wasn't sure if mind/spirit/ghost had a proper gender auf Deutsch or not. Die, Der, oder Das?
Cheers!

1. Geist is male in german, so it would be "Der Übergeist". OM is more difficult. Oh wait, I thought you ment "Übergeist" was some kind of Meta-OM, the topmost of all OMs...
2. Problem is, in german "Geist" means "mind" aswell as "ghost". So, I don't know if it really is a good way to translate overmind. To me, the OM is some kind of Meta Consciousness, Trans Mental Consciousness
Suggesting: (neutral) Das Überbewußtsein

@Player1:
Damn, I already worked on this nice post to be Prime and it'll be hard for it to go to waste. :P
Oh well, Prime could have a funny, dark side too, can't he?
Also, question. Can we have it so sometimes that other players can post their contributions to the RP as E-mails to one another? It could be used as plot devices or as personal journals so the characters could say whats going through their minds. I got this idea from reminiscing elements from playing Doom 3 on My Xbox, and I'm wondering if it could fit in an RP topic.
Anyways, I'm new to this business, so please tell me if I'm doing anything wrong, cheers.

@Plague Bringer: I left it completely open-ended, but I'll recap a few of the details so far tossed in: it's nearby Sirius and Firststar systems, even though it took nine jumps through the hyparxial void to get there (and the Guilderguides seemed to have truoble finding it); Jed and Ned are veterans of meta-temporal campaigns; neither Slim, who was not only a Guilderguide, but also a Jumping Double-Freak, nor TNW, a drone with over a century of field experience, seem to think that the system is even on the star-charts.
But to provide a small bit of background. The star is actually a small solarity quite near Wolf 359, a very large object as brown dwarfs go, and a pretty puny object as far as run-of-the-mill M-class red dwarfs go: a paltry example of the most common type of star in the Settled Vectors and Volumes. It not as if it were very exciting, but still, it shouldn't have gone overlooked for two millenia, mere el-wyes away from Humanity's Alleged Cradle-Star. And then one day in the late Forty-teens of the Interglobal Common Era, it was silently catalogued, as if it had appeared from nowhere; quietly added to the list of places to driver-mine worldlets, pellucidarize planetoids, and manufacture the type of things you can't make or sell in the more snooty sections of the Pink Corridor. Some wag on Varuna dubbed it Al-Minak, the One that Somehow Escaped Notice. There were of course, the usual kooks and crazies who insisted it was Providence's Plan or Something Far More Sinister, but until the time of our mission, the small swarm of planetoids and asterisms haunting the cometary cloud of this darkened babystar has gone relatively unexplored and almost completely overlooked. Except, of course, but an ancient, arcane, soul-shocking horror, a few desperate smugglers and privateers, and a certain zaibatsu infamous for (allegedly) destroying the very cosmic fabric of the Omniverse itself (albeit on a picoparticular level). Strange that our travelers should find a fairly-habitable worldlet within its tiny habitable zone, but many things about this mission are somewhat inexplicable to the mind too willing to jump to quick conclusions.

@Hendrich: Awesome job. You are Prime. That still leaves Jed & Ned, and Shin, available for play. Yes, we should have all kinds of other documents, padpod transcripts, Brindipedia articles, memos, job applications (good job, you got the part!), quotes from famous Duplicants, excerpts from An Astragator's Guide to the NV&V, and etc.
-
Could all the star systems, abbrevations and common terms maybe compiled into a wiki style page or some form of readable document? It is already that much that I have trouble following this RP aswell as The Story.
-
@Bissig: I'll make you a deal. If you start a casual running list, just as you come across them, or when you remember them, I'll be happy to turn that document (eventually) into a lexicon/glossary/wiki/FAQ/manual of the Q: TJ: TFZI world. A lot of it is used for local color, and hopefully doesn't distract from the gist of the story (that Ked Ambrit blew up the First Colonists of Fractal Zion, as well as his escorting force of Merc Militiamen, in order to save Haos Redro interests in the neighboring Brindus Cluster).
Cheers!
P.S. Danke schön, I liked geist because it is so ambiguous in English (is it a ghost? a spirit? an alien intelligence? is it localized in one body or several?), but I will definitely make use of the quick Zulu lesson in the Mother Tongue of my people's forefather's.
-
@Archangel: For an idea of what Merfolk women might look like, look here (http://www.faerymoon.us/assets/foxglove_faery.jpg). Also, it's quite possible that Simmer is some sort of a merman, either in disquise, or using a reverse-engineered Old FolkTM retroclone. I think he is a spy, from the Unvanquished megaclan, who has infiltrated Haos Redro's Inner Corporate Council for Intrazaibatsu Initiatives, the ICCII. Perhaps he has been found out, which is why he was sent on this crappy mission. Or maybe it is part of his master plan, to find out more about the Aliens new battle-classes and builder-species. Either way, he's operating under deep cover. So deep, he's really not even sure who he is working for or loyal to anymore.
For more on the Unvanquished, see here (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=9805.msg149699#msg149699) and here (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=9645.msg150449#msg150449).

Brindus?
-
Just want to point out that there are two spaces left for those that are interested: Shin (the young woman) and Jed & Ned.
I want to get the Übergeist as a sort of omnipotent figure at the moment. It will make a more direct appearance later on, but it wants to play with the minds of the pinkskins for a while.
Also, as to the "And fuck that Terrible North Wind" statement, I have plans. And trust me, they're good plans ;)
-
Brindus?
Yea, lets keep it to Brindus. I decided to use a random ending like .br, but if it has to make sense, sure.
-
Kaleo: Ain't that three spaces? (Unless Jed and Ned are a composite entity.)
-
Jed & Ned are composite. Twins, if you will.
-
They could be played separately, if three more players wanted to join, or together, if someone wants to take on that task. Either way. We need to have a couple more players, but if someone doesn't join within the next day or so, I will write Jed & Ned and Shin, just to keep the game moving along. Everybody but the drone is pretty much planetside now (as far as we know), so it's just about time for Scene 2 of Act I. Just waiting to see if we are going to have anyone else join. Moving on in 3-2-1...
P.S. Considering all the evil designs you all have towards the drone, perhaps I should play more than one character.
-
If you don't mind Mr.1, I would love to take Jed and Ned, and you can take Shin. They seem like the perfect pair of characters to mold them into total assholes, besides, I always wanted to spell Zesus like this.
Lets give it a bit more time, just in case we have late party crashers wanting to play.
-

I suggested "Das Überbewußtsein" yesterday. What also came to mind after I shut off my PC (typical - isn't it?) was "Meta-Bewußtsein". Which means Meta-Consciousness. But, even for me it is difficult to really figure out what fits "Overmind" best in german. I still like the first one best:
"Das Überbewußtsein wurde sich der Menschen gewahr. Eine, wie es spürte, gefährliche Rasse von hochentwickelten Affen."
"The Overmind became conscious of the presence of the humans. It sensed danger from that breed of highly evolved apes."
-
I actually am enjoying the whole one or two word orders that the Übergeist is sending out to it's Overminds.
The story will get to be the Tremulous we know when the thought is sent:
"Kill."
-
So where exactly are they on this planetoid?
Who's with who on the surface, and how far away from each other are they?
I know that Jane is a fair bit away from the others, but she has her beacon on, so TWN should be able to track her down.
But what about Simmer, Shin and the rest of them?
-

Yes, its confusing, I had trouble following the story so I took bits I understood and got that.
Okay, so heres the rundown:
-Characters on Dropshit Dropship
-Deployed/launched/exploded/whatever from Dropship on a planetoid
-Characters now are on planetoid
-Characters venturing to far side of planetoid to await furthur orders from Simmer
So, before we go into to what Kaleo asked, should all the characters be separated from groups then reunite, or should they just cluster near each other and move on?
-
Well, I thought since TWN has the dropshi
tp, maybe he could pick them all up.
They do have beacons in their pods, after all.
-
I guess, so TNW can go on a willy adventure trying to pick up everyone while everyone else tries to survive the conditions of the planetoid?
-
Man, when this is all done, I am so writing a script.
-
Hendrich (gj!) wrote the drone down, since he mentioned the burritos, so I just went with that. I figured since Slim and Gunny were somewhat "together" (in time of entering replies), they became sort of a story-within-the-story. Since I figured Kaleo would show up again, I wrote Jane back in, but then I needed characters to have taken Prime's breakfast. Who better than Slim, and since it was plural, Gunny, since I was pretty sure Syntac and Plague Bringer would return. Since we still don't have players for the other 2 or 3 characters (depending on how you want to play Jed & Ned), it was convenient to have them be the "missing" part of the party, thus we have our current conflict: Where the fuck is everybody?
In the excitement of everyone finding the wreckage of our dropboat and roasting birds, Simmer seems to have wandered off. The guy with our orders. The ones that only he can open. And then, only if and when the time is right. Now Slim has found the remains of another dropboat, and there's some noise coming from the bushes (thank you Syntac, and Plague Bringer, respectively, iirc).
We're still looking for the missing members of the team: Ned, Jed & Shin, and now, apparently, Simmer, too.
While I turn around slowly, to see what is coming from out of the bushes, I am also going to anticipate our next course of action, which I expect to be announced soon by my team leader...
+1's for everybody, not only are we now solidly into Scene 2 (maybe 3) of Act I, we are about to enter the dark and mysterious Act II (where evil and chaos reign). Beware the scene and cue the blue mood light, as the orchestra returns to the theme, then transposes it down to Db-minor. Things are about to take a considerable turn for the worse, my friends. It's time to: MAKE THE HERO HURT (the hero is your character).
Good luck. Those who survive may yet live to see Act III.
bwahahahah.... heh... *cough
-
Hmm...
Abandoned undergound Haos Redro complex?
Maybe...
-
I'm going to make a map of this abandoned HR complex.
I'm also going to work a HR logo. Something a bit like Weyland-Yutani's (look it up) logo.
-
@player1
DAS Meta-Bewußtsein. Meta is only a sort of "qualifier" so "Bewußtsein" still stays neutral -> DAS.
-
@Bissig: Duly noted. See change and notation. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. It's the small details that make it all seem complete.
By the way, was there a specific question that you had about the back story, the terminology or a particular star system? Happy to answer any inquiries.
@Squad-mates: OK, just checking - Who is still playing? Kaleo? (You did the last post before me, so I assume yes.) Hendrich? (You have added some artful entries, so I assume yes for you also.) Syntac? (We knocked you out but you can still dream, have a flashback, suddenly jump up and start dancing, etc.) Plague Bringer? (I'll bet you are working on other fiction. Are you still working on "The Collector"? I would like to see more. I hope my comments were not destructive of your creativity.)
Sorry about my own semi-negligence of this and at least four other threads (Querulous, Unvanquished, Trem RP #1, PB's story thread, etc.). Got busy with RL stuffs, and a friend asked me to join his clan. But I'm sure I'll have a lovely burst of inspiration SOON.
P.S. I'd say we have just about reached the end of this Scene and Act, and it's time to descend into that HR facility. Is it ready for occupancy, Mr. Dungeon Master?
Also, would you guys like to set up a time to "practice", "spar", "scrim", what-have-you? It would be interesting, to have the whole "clan", "guild", "team" on at one time. Anybody up for a team-writing session?
My time zone is GMT-8 (PST - US). I could be available, for a pre-arranged "clan practice", typically around 9 to 11 pm (my time), or alternatively, PM me, if anyone is interested. Please post your time zone (I believe I know everyone's approximate locations: two Canucks, an Aussie, and me and the other guy are West Coast US, iirc), and when you might possibly be interested in tentatively "getting together" for a "team-building session".
Cheers!
Let me know if anyone else has any other groovy ideas for kick-starting this hawg.

Well, there's no way I would ever drop out of this, so yeah, I'm still in.
Also, all you guys can organize a time. I have a very flexible schedule (ie. I'm doing nothing), so whatever suits you.
-
Could you first explain what "She" is before going on to the next scene?
-
(I think) that will be explained in due course.
-
We actually don't know. We're making it up as we go along. It's nice to know we have readers, though.
-
It's good like this, see? We can't give away the plot, even if we wanted to, because we don't know it.
-
((If this were a co-op game, the opening cutscenes and the first level would just about be completed. Time to descend into the dungeon levels.))
((If it were a teleplay, it would be about the end of the second act.))
-
Question; Is this time for the rest of the characters to pop in on this next chapter, or do we hold some of em off for a lil' bit more?
Btw, make moar nao plz, tomorrow is 2 long kthxbai.
-
I think maybe we should open up the remaining two characters to any existing players. I'm not too keen on taking on yet another responsibility, but I'm sure p1 or even you, Hendrich, would love to.
-
((I'll take Shin, and Hen can take the Ked Twins. They are on the other side of the planetoid, and have found an alternate entrance to the underground HR facility. It will be at least tomorrow, as I've now got responsibilities to my clan-mates. Yeah, that's right, the eternal loner joined a clan.))
-
Ooooh... Artificial planetoid? Build by the Aliens. The facility was killed by the aliens after the uncovered something buried deep under the crust.
Hey, it may not be too original, but fuck it.
-
I may have to put this on hiatus, as I have several projects currently in the works.
Who is still interested in playing?
-
I was waiting for you to start off Scene 2/etc and others to follow, but I might dabble in it today.
-
/sigh
Maybe I should just go ahead and do the set-the-scene myself.
I sure hope you don't abandon us, p1. :P
-
I won't. I think you should have the drone stay behind and tend to Slim and Gunny, while Prime and Jane go on to explore the HR installation. Also, you could simultaneously be playing Ned & Jed and Shin, already exploring the installation, or possibly already captives or victims of the Übergeist.
Then if either Syntac (wtf happened to that guy?) or Plague Bringer (I think he is working on a map or a story) come back, we can follow after you all, and arrive late to the party. Or, just kill us off, if you like.
I'm not abandoning this project, but between this, the Unvanquished, Querulous: The Juddering, <3 Clan, and 800 words a day for a year on my writing blog, I'm spread a tad bit thin at this point, fellas. (Not to mention, dare I say it, non-virtual existence.)
I'll be back, when I've moved those other projects along a bit. Lurking nearby, as always.
Cheers!
-
Well, we can't kill off TNW. He's Janes bloody love interest (whoops :P).
Hendrich! You take Shin, I'll take Jed & Ned.
Let's do dis shit!
-
I am here, and I check the forums on a daily basis, but the interest in this has been lost for me. Posts have slowed to a halt, and there are three people playing eight characters. Gunny is still alive, so don't kill him off yet.
-
Yeah, the drone will stay behind to tend the wounded. Plague Bringer, just jump back in when you are ready to play again. it will be a week or three for me. Also, post if you continue that other story. You inspired me to try to write every day, and, like you, I am now working on something outside of the Tremulous universe.
Good luck with your writing, and report back on how it is going. I'll post a link to my Writer's Blog here eventually.
Cheers.
-
I'll continue my story when the time and inspiration coincide. I'll get a website up with my writings and link you in a PM, if you're interested, player1. We'll keep A Simple Insertion alive and well for you, p1.
-
Copy that. In the meantime, please join us at the Unvanquished discussion (see sig-link), and: Has anyone heard from Syntac? I'm starting to think we should knock on his door... (or at least PM the guy).
-
I think Syntac would want to explain why he is MIA, so I'll do it for him in the meanwhile. He got hit by a drunk dude who drove a friggin' truck and the doctors said he might not be able to keep his legs anymore. Let him rest a bit and feel relaxed about reality before venturing into the RP. ;)
I wish I could say "LULZ JK", but thats not really a good option to do.
Its arguable that he could be lying, but I don't see any reason for him to do so, but even the thought of a guy losing his legs is nothing to make a mockery about. We could only give him our sincere support. :(
And now back to the RP.
-
Our prayers are with him. Wish him well, on our behalf. We'll keep him in our thoughts.
-
Aaaaaaaaaargh.
Hey everyone, I'm back! I had to beg the nurse to get me a laptop so I could tell you guys what's going on.
So yeah, like Hendrich said, this drunk moron swerved a semi into my ass. The medical dudes are debating whether to amputate (due to possibility of infection...?). I'm on some pretty powerful painkillers right now, so uh...gotta sign off for an indefinite period of time.
-
We miss you, man. All our best wishes for your speedy recovery. Take care, my friend.
-
I hope you can keep your legs but ... uh, if you do lose them... can I have em? :D
-
i would like to be a character in this role play, can i be a human :human: please also ill make an example of a backround story so we have some more ideas to throw arround :advmarauder: :basilisk: :dretch: :marauder: :dragoon:
-
id like to play as a human who had been captured and held on this planet while being tortured for info. he escapes and finds the survivors from the dropship and leads them to the enemies undrground area, similar to the tremulous map karith. :human: they are unable to enter this area :barricade:so they build a base near by :reactor: :telenode: :turret: :turret: :turret: :medstat: :armoury:
-
I don't know about the rest of you, but the fact that Trem's first RP is dying/dead with people who want to join in but noone bothers to answer them is just bleh. Maybe your too busy or something, I understand but I say that we should continue the RP, it had enough sleep as it is and I'm in the mood for some writing and I believe so do all of you.
C-ron, Serve the overmind (StO), Optimus and Eternal Dretch asked if they could join the RP last time I checked with P1. I sent you guys a PM asking if you're still interested, so reply back or something and maybe we can fill in spots for you guys. If there isn't enough spots either Player1/Kaleo makes a post that allows new characters to appear or I don't think it'll be possible. Cheers.
-
I wantz.
-
i wantz in to plz
