Googled, and searched forums so dont hurt me

In the pic above, i simply cut out a square hollow in the wall, the placed 4 simple patch meshes to fit into the 4 corners of my new hollow in the wall and moved the edges around the pipe like so

Alterntively if it doesnt need to be perfectly circular, you could cut the corners of the hollow into the shape of a circle

I made a simple square brush, then pressed V to get the vertices. I dragged 1 corner of a vertice about 16 game units in 1 direction. I copy/pasted that section next to it, then did the same for that. I then changed camera angles and pressed E for edges, then move the edges around for an uneven shape. Because the brushes were convex (meaning, basically you could cut a brush into that entire shape for the wall) I pressed ctrl + U which then merged the brushes like so...

There is a good rock wall tutorial from taiyo.uk on here under useful mapping links

Also, nubcake, another question: I see you used two cylinders to make the pipe. How did you put a texture between the two cylinders? If this is confusing, here's what I mean:

/ TX /
| TX /
\ TX \

TX is the texture between them and the slashes are the two cylinders.

Are you talking about the edge of a cylinder? If so, you have to create a patch mesh and bend it to whatever shape the end of your tube is.

It's that simple? Ok. But then wouldn't you have to use multiple patch meshes?

I use four, personally.

I use 4 patch meshes per ide of the cylinder and 4 patch meshes each side of the wall to blend it in, total of 16 patches

You could also just drag the vertices around and make the inner pipe cover the small visible part of outer pipe AND the texture between. It will also stop the game from using different level of detail for different parts if you are at certain distances.
