A little over a month ago, I wanted to organize a Tremulous tournament. I decided that the time spent making a website would best be spent on a center for competitive events rather than a single tournament. So, I went through the long(ish) process of making a site and tournament. There wasn't a whole lot to do; I attribute the difficulty of the process to my own incompetence. Relearning HTML and CSS, reading the Simple Machines docs, and writing, rewriting, and re-rewriting the rules of the tournament were among the things did.
So, here is www.tremzone.com (http://www.tremzone.com) and its associated tournament, the First TremZone Team Open. Check it out for details.
Registration is currently open, but as this has just been announced, changes may be made to the rules. There are currently no official referees, server, or teamspeak server, though as of right now the game and Teamspeak servers will be vR's. Match dates are to be announced, but registration will continue through the holidays, and matches wont begin until after the New Year.
If you would like to be a referee, contact me. You can both play and ref the tournament, but you cannot be a referee for a match that your team or clan is in.
If you would like to contribute your server to the tournament, post here or on the TremZone forum, or contact me in any other way. Having more tournament servers will decongest the schedule of matches. Your server must have or be able to change to the range of settings given in the rules, preferably without rcon (i.e. TL 50-60, SD 25-35, etc.) Originally, I had share/donate: off as a server setting, but seeing that I don't have my own servers to use, and most servers have share/donate on, share/donate will be on.
Referees will be chosen carefully.
Also, the 4 most popular maps to scrim on, as determined by the poll in the TremZone forum, will be used for the tournament. Go vote now. Because it's a public poll, I will need many voters to iron out the fallacies.
Feel free to ask if you have questions. I would like to append an FAQ on the site. I have a reason for just about everything, so I'll likely be able to explain quite easily.

Void of Deity endorses and encourages tremzone. We plan on being involved and using our servers(which should be up today or tomorrow) to support the tournament.
Good luck Harry! :)

Hi.
Only USA? :(
Anyway, good luck and have fun for the futures scrims!

Fixed :p
Very nice idea and site... Though why just the NA, my pings 140 on NA server and i suffer from no lag...
-
Wow, a real tournament for once, thats new. Goodluck to the tourny for you guys.
-
This is North America only because dodging is difficult with high ping differences on unlagged since you can't see where your enemy actually is, only where s/he was a fraction of a second earlier. Sorry :(
-
well.. i think NA only is a good idea. It discourages any flaming or whining about how unfair/biased unlagged is. It will just avoid this whole arguement of which clans are better Euro or NA.
-
i mean there is a solution to all this lagged/unlagged bullshit. Play on lagged, make it so everyone has 150-200 ping then see who rly is the best :P :advmarauder: :P :advmarauder: :P :advmarauder: :P
-
K-otic is a manager, so if you want to be a referee, and I don't know you well, you can ask Otic.
-
i spose i see your point but it wouldnt be hard to simply have all particapants have a quick 2 minute game and see if any lag, and then disqualify those that do. Maybe next time? Though i dont know why im saying this because im not even in a clan :P

I think putting everyone on a lan connection would be better. 0 ping ftw. Then they can't whine, Oh I lagged.

Road Trip!!!
On Topic: GL w/ the tourneƩ.

We should have our games hosted in Australia that way both Europeans and NA lag. When its Aussie vs NA we hold the match in Europe. Europe vs Aussie hold it in NA.

Hi.
We should have our games hosted in Australia that way both Europeans and NA lag. When its Aussie vs NA we hold the match in Europe. Europe vs Aussie hold it in NA.
One day, I connected (When I don't got "Too high ping") to an Aussie server, with my french connection. I got 500 of ping. Unplayable, even with unlaggued. :(
I think it's a bad idea. Let US' clans play on US servers, Euros' clans on Euro servers, Aussies' clans on Aussi servers. Or install servers in Groenland and in Africa. :D

Pffff, he looked to me very serious...

I play on lagged aussie servers often, and I'm on the west coast of the US. And I typically do fine, in fact I get less connection interrupted than I do on a lot of euro servers. usually it's really stable, just slow. if NTT threw in some more fiber over there I'd probably be able to ping 150 even, seeing as how the CURRENT fiber goes from US -> Asia -> AU now.

Sadly that will never happen, as aussieland is a perfect example of why government fiddling and regulation are bad for the net.
They have enforced peering contracts and everything. Its like a monopoly but worse...

Yeah.
Actually they're only threatening that. I doubt it will go through, because alot of people will be complaining if it does.
-
As of what I've heard from a friend who works for NTT, they ARE thinking about running an OC48 from San Jose, CA to Sydney, AU. Right now they have dual OC3's running from SJ->AU, as well as 2 OC3's and two OC12's from Japan to AU. There's at least 30 OC192's running from various parts of the western US coast to Japan at the moment, why not some to Aussieland? ;]

I'm talking about something different, laws that have been there for ages.

Oh. I thought you were talking about the nationwide filter the government wants to install.

Err tremzone tremzone woot woot?
Trying to rear back on topic :P
-
Getting teams to register is harder than I thought. 8 teams was a long shot, a reaalllyy long shot. I'll keep registration open for a while, and at worst, there'll be a small round-robin tournament.
-
Have you gone doorknocking on clan websites?
-
Give people time, at least a week or so.
It'll take people a while to get the old teams back together again etc.
-
sign up !!
-
Sorry, I don't feel like playing the same people I scrim against every day.
-
Oh right you wanna scrim ACR and MW, right? yeah thats how you guys plan on calling yourselves the most dominant clan in tremulous, im guessing.

No one gives a shit, and for the record, most of the people who talk about "dominant clans" aren't even in {V} (at least when I played a week ago).
This tournament just seems like scrims with dates and some basic prize attached, which is probably why it hasn't been successful so far. Personally, I prefer scrimming whenever I want to without the obligation of playing at a predetermined time.
Tournaments in Tremulous are generally pointless and are a waste of time. They'd probably only work in this game if it attracted pro-gamers, or whatever they call themselves now. That's just my opinion, though.
Sorry for the negative attitude. :-p
-
How about we just have a match with whoever wins that little tournament. Then when we win we can call ourselves the most dominant clan? Sounds fair to me, besides a lot of our members including myself and AppleJuice won't be able to attend the Tournament anyways because of the dates. Having to do all of our matches in 1-2 days is lame imo, they should be spread out over weeks.
-
To bad {V} wont be registering seeing how Yarou is to scared to lose.

Hey,
#1 tourneys in trem generally fail, no matter how well organized.
#2 Yarou could kick your ass alone, much less with the rest of {v}.
#3 why would you say something like that? You're just stirring up people. (see my post for example of results)
#4 Good luck Harry, I hope this fares better than those of the past.
#5 I hope ATCS doesn't make your final round of maps, the justice would be epic. :p
-
Wow, you registered an account, just to flame Yarou. How original. ::)
-
To bad
To bad
To bad
To bad
To bad
Says enough
We've already beaten pretty much every real clan that is alive right now (while "rusty"), so it's hardly a matter of being "scared."
It's more like none of us are still 12 years old; almost half our clan is inactive until May (college).
It's more like some of the people behind this tournament chose to be annoying, rather than logical; antagonistic, rather than understanding. That's not going to attract anyone. TIPS 4 THE FUTURE (ya I'm looking at u stevenm/produde/whoever)
CONCLUSION: FAIL
P.S. produde that only works on people in ur own clan (read: idiots)
-
I made 1 post :/. Im in college too, so yeah i understand. I was just trying to piss you off into joining the tournament, sorry if i wanted to see you included amoung the clans :s. thanks for the flame

Scrims with dates without the prize. ROFL
I actually made the tournament because there aren't many "pro-gamers" in Tremulous. My reasoning was that people don't have time for scrims UNLESS they are scheduled. In order to scrim another clan, 4 players have to just happen to be on, and 4 players from the other clan have to happen to be on. That means, if your clan is small or inactive, you are SOL. With tournaments, it's fine if you are inactive because you only need to be on once a week for, say, a month, knowing that when you are on, you will a clan to scrim.
Having to do all of our matches in 1-2 days is lame imo, they should be spread out over weeks.
I never said that ._.
There's no way I'm gonna schedule the whole tournament over 2 days. I've gotta set a date to cut off of registration before I set match dates.
-
I was just trying to piss you off into joining the tournament
What a load of granger droppings, what kind of brilliant idea is that? It'll just piss people off, period.
That being said, Harry Potter Pothead has his intentions aimed at a positive route, there aren't many "Pro-players" on the internet anymore, and when I mean "Pro players" I meant playing with and against players who are actually fun to play with. Back in college, LAN games on Tremulous was the shit, if someone is camping too much, you could go to their dorm and beat the crap out of them.
Getting back on topic, I hope this tourney will work out for you Harry and StevenM, lets just cross our fingers that the tourney will start moving soon.

Important announcement:
Registration will be closed at 11:59 P.M. EST Friday, January 23
There are currently 6 registered teams. If there aren't 8 by then, I will change the bracket.
The first matches will be announced soon after and will probably take place the week after January 31 and Feb. 1.
-
good luck with your tourney, TOT - NA went better then I thought, hope February will be even better for us!
You can count on vR to show up :]
-
The tournament has begun.
Several rule changes were made. Check the TremZone forum.
All first round matches will happen Saturday, January 31. Again, check TZ.
-
If anyone can help spread the word to all participants about this Saturday, that would be great. Unfortunately, I don't have a way to contact all participants. Just tell them to check forum.tremzone.com for their match dates.
-
Current scores posted and will be updated regularly on the TZ forum(not an accurate indicator of who will win)
Round 2 match dates posted (all on Saturday, February 7)
The make-up date for Hybrid vs Normality will be announced after all 3 rounds have been finished, but I'd prefer they make it up sometime before that.
