Hello,
I thought this was a perfect community to tell about a new video that I have made as part of the opening announcement (http://gamelapse.com/announcement/gamelapsecom_opens_help_you_discover_and_share_machinima) of my new web site, GameLapse.com, since the video is actually a machinima made using Tremulous. It's available on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXLOYeT7UaE&fmt=18).
I will be writing a tutorial about how to make a simple machinima using Tremulous on Linux and post the link here for anyone interested. But in short, I started two clients, one as a spectator and another as a player and recorded demos in them. Then I used GLC (http://nullkey.ath.cx/projects/glc) to capture those demos and kdenlive (http://www.kdenlive.org) to edit it all together. It's really not that complicated if you aren't going to do anything more complex (like trying to move the camera AND the character at the same time (in that case you'll either need to script it somehow or have a friend on multiplayer "holding the camera" (spectating) while you act, or vice versa.
Perhaps that encourages more people to make machinima in Linux, using Tremulous, which seems best suited for Linux machinima at this point. Of course, I also hope this video attracts some people to my new site too. ;) But either way, even if the site isn't a big success, if I can get people to make more buzz with Linux games by making movies in them, I'm still happy! ;)
Let me know what you think.

Nice! Linux ftw, but it needs s lil bit of more action :\ but it was pretty well, i'm interested kthxbai.

Looks like another great addition to the Tremulous fan base, so I wish you guys luck on your website. I think its the first time anyone tried doing tremulous machinima professionally, and thus the video looked good. Great resolution quality on the video, but I couldn't experience the true joy because it kept lagging, but I'm positive its just my crap PC that cant stream for blobs.
Well, I hope other artists can make Tremulous videos and tutorials based on the Windows OS/etc, because I'm getting this "Lunix Only" vibe, just because Linux users are faster, more convenient and more 'free' then Windows users doesn't mean we are obsolete. Well, for XP, that is. ::)
Once again, best of luck to your website.

Thanks guys. :)
Snake, well it's not an action movie, just an announcement. Who knows.. if I'm motivated maybe some day I do some action or just record myself playing (like a noob of course) tremulous and cutting it into some nice scenes. :P In any case, others can make more machinima in Tremulous, hopefully my tutorial will help. : 8)
Hendrich, it should actually be easier to do on Windows. You have fraps and also better video editing applications available. I might make the tutorial compatible to both. The difference is just that on Linux you'll use GLC to capture and on Windows fraps and for video editing on Linux it's likely gonna be kdenlive and on windows something else (Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere I guess...). I'm not sure I'll actually cover cutting and editing though, just how to set it up for acting and capturing so you have the actual material. Then editing should be a matter of putting the pieces together and adding any overlay text or images if you wish.. We'll see..
Archangel, yeah I still idle in #tuxhacker. :P
Cheers!

Oh, i see, well, actually i use kdenlive but i kinda fail at it :P

Me too, to be honest. :P
Kdenlive always used to crash terribly, made me feel like walking on eggshells while using it, as if every next click could trigger a crash. Now in version 0.7 (which is KDE4 compatible) it is better in that respect, but still seems quite buggy. Yet this is the best video editing tool for Linux as far as I'm concerned. It can be really disheartening. I swear I sometimes wish I just got a mac and got over all of the trouble. ;D
But then again, it has potential, it's in development so it should probably improve. Maybe at some point, kdenlive will be a really good solid tool.
