Title: ParseSpawnVars and /map
Post by: lavacano201014 on December 27, 2008, 11:49:01 pm
So, my Trem client can't start local servers (I can't use /map in console).

Specifics, you ask?

Well, when I connect to a server, everything's fine, la di da, I'm having a party. But if I try to load a map I know works through /map, I get the following error:

"g_ParseSpawnVars: found <random character> when expecting {"

This is on the default HUD, too, so don't say anything about the one I'm developing.

And I say <random character> because it's never the same character. So far I've gotten a ", a space, even a 6.

Anyone know what happened or should I just try to find my server binaries on the media center?

Its a mismatch between the server and qvm.
I assume your using a updated client?  The server it has built in is also updated, and won't work with the crappy old 1.1 qvm that come with the game.
Download lak's qvm from http://patches.mercenariesguild.net/index.php?getfile=980 and put it in fs_homepath/base/vm/game.qvm

It's a mismatch between myself and myself?

Slight clarification: OTHER SERVERS are OK, but /map doesn't work.

It's a mismatch between the server you run with /map and the qvm it uses.

OK, another slight clarification.

I'm running /map on my client. That same client connects to other servers OK, but when I run /map under ~, it does that.

You've already gotten the answer twice. The client still has a server built in, and your QVM is out of date.

Well, it damn good and well COULD have been different...

Well, apparently I had the up-to-date QVMs, but I was too retarded to put them in base. I put them in the main folder instead.
