Umm, Help? :P
« on: June 16, 2009, 11:23:36 pm »
Hi there guys,
My friends and I are really getting into tremulous and are enjoying it... I've decided to make my own server cause we like to play with Unlimited BP and lower gravity and such. I've read all the console commands, and most of the work, like g_gravity.

But, when my friends and I are trying to play alone, and someone tries to join our server and play, how am I to ban them?

The list of commands says:

!ban
Description: Bans the player from the server for an amount of time specified in the syntax. If time is not specified, the ban is permanent. The time format is w(weeks), d(days), h(hours), m(minutes) or seconds if there is no unit.
Syntax: !ban <name/slot/IP> <time> <reason>
Example: !ban Hendrich (or) !ban hen
Effect of the above example: Bans the player Hendrich off the server unless there are other players that contain the name Hendrich (or) hen permanently.

What exactly am I supposed to type? Cause.. I tried earlier to ban someone. Their name was Phog1, what exactly would I type if I would like to ban them? Thanks! (In advance) :)

Well, by the command syntax, I'd say open messagemode (or in the console use /say), then type "!ban Phog1"; I've never tried running a server, so I don't know if there would be any complications involved in your situation.  If I recall correctly, if you're playing on the host connection, you can use a console command, like [wiki]BanClient[/wiki], but once again, I've never hosted a server, so I don't know for sure.

If you're hosting the server locally, or you have admin, you can just type this in console:
Code: [Select]
/!ban phog1 9001w
This would ban Phog1 for 9001 weeks.

If it is hosted remotely, and you do not have admin for some reason:
Code: [Select]
/rcon rconpasshere !ban phog1 9001w
That would have the same effect, but the "console" would ban them instead.

You can ban with several different units of time:
Code: [Select]
!ban phog1 1s -- Ban Phog for 1 second
!ban phog1 1m -- Ban Phog for 1 minute
!ban phog1 1h -- Ban Phog for 1 hour
!ban phog1 1d -- Ban Phog for 1 day
!ban phog1 1w -- Ban Phog for 1 week
!ban phog1 -- Ban Phog permanently
!ban phog1 0s -- Again, ban permanently

I hope this helps.
(By the way, this should go in the Troubleshooting section. :P)

Isn't it easier to password the server instead of banning strangers?

You could also do !listplayers to see what slot they are in and then type !ban slot 9001w

Either password the server, or better still, don't advertise it to the world.
Set dedicated to 1 when you start it and it won't be on the list.

Sorry for the necro, but I think another alternatives. The first would be to make your server password protected, and the other would be to lock the teams.

In order to password protect your server you need to add the following in your server.cfg file:
Code: [Select]
set g_needpass 1
set g_password <somepassword>
Of course all your friends would need to know the password to your server in order for this to work.

If your friends don't know the password to the server you can prevent anyone joining the game by locking the teams once a game is started. You can do this by typing "!lock a" and "!lock h" in the console.

If for some reason a spectator joins up before you get started you can always kick them by slot number

Someone made a private slots with admin patch sometime ago, perhaps that would work for you.
