perhaps it is just that most of the games where i have spent a lot of time speccing have noclipping spectators.  therefore, to me it is unintuitive to have spectators that do not noclip.  i also know that most, if not all, mappers design maps to look good when in the map.  i can forgive "un-prettyness" when noclipping, as i understand that mappers do not design for the benefit of spectators.

nux, what i meant with the statement you quoted is that, yes, you can make opaque walls, or texture the unseen side.  having the unseen faces of the walls untextured is what spectators rely on to see into the interior of a room when no-clipped out of that room.

i'm no mapping expert, i only know the basics, but i do know most mappers do not texture unseen faces.  something about performance or map size.  this benefits noclipping spectators, as described above.

I think noclipping only through doors is the best solution to the door teleporting problem.

We could also replace the 'void' by simulating the skybox texture of the map to make things pretty, but some maps have more than one skybox texture, so it probably won't work.

some maps have 0 skyboxes.

As far as I can tell, aliens would have a very large advantage over humans in CTF (being able to hide much better, walk on walls to get to better places, much faster, much quieter, regenerative HP, etc) so in order to make it more balanced you would need to give humans something or do something to make it more fair. Humans have always had the advantage in that their bases can withstand assults better than the aliens can, but I assume you won't want bases in CTF, anymore than telenodes, arm, medi, egg, and maybe booster, unless you just set the area around both flags to nobuild area, because otherwise camping will make the games horrible.
But humans have firearms and can kill an individual alien with ease on a significant distance
