The 1.1 master is the same one that will be the 1.2 master.  Blocking out 1.1 servers sounds like effort to me, so I doubt it will ever happen.

I was just wondering how long you think 1.1 will last, since 1.2 is just around the corner...
You make a very dangerous assumption there. You assume that 1.2 will be released. The reality is that 1.2 will never come out, it is stuck in a development cycle that it will never come out of. The dev's know this (except Norf, he's being kept in the dark about it). Therefore the simple answer is, 1.1 will last until technology supercedes it and noone can compile it any more.

Last I checked everything was done bar the models (which have a very firm finish post) and some balance tweaks, which Norf has said are basically done.  I seem to recall him saying he'd be happy to release as-is if everything else was done, so yeah.  Hardly endless.

Well, seeing as Stannum seems to have slowed in his work on any models, it could be years. Or months.

I think 1.1 will die, because there will be no new players - they will download 1.2 by default.

I totally agree that a large portion of players that play 1.1 right now are totally clueless backportless people who dont have the technical knowledge to change out a file so that pretty much guarantees the 1.1 crowd will be there indefinetely.
I wonder how they found the game in the first place. You don't think they might hear about 1.2 through the same channel?
New players might, but the current *new* players wont.  They don't check that channel.  You know how many guidless people I see on AA daily?  Being without a GUID now is very very unlikely to someone who knows how to read these forums.  Especially with how much people love to beg for admin.
