Dri or Opengl?
« on: July 22, 2006, 03:35:53 pm »
I'm a quake3 / enemy-territory gamer, and they run flawlessly on my gentoo linux with Dri acceleration (i don't have opengl support in my driver).

The problem is that tremulous only wants to run on opengl acceleration, is there a way to force dri usage?

what?
you mean you have some crappy ATI card with reverse engineered drivers?

there IS openGL for R9100IGP under DRI-exa and ati crap driver
so what exactly is your problem?

well, it's R9100 but R9000 mine. Why can i play quake3/enemy-territory and not tremulous?

I can't play with opengl, just pure dri, and the game don't use the hardware dri interface, it looks like using a software dri interface.

you have no clue, have you?
Radeon 9000 mobility = R9100IGP
DRI is NOT a driver, DRI is NOT an API
DRI is just an interface to talk to the card. OpenGL is an API, "Radeon" is the driver.

you HAVE openGL, otherwise you could NOT run any Q3 based game.
sooo, what exactly is your problem ? DETAILS FFS???

dmesg | grep drm
or just go to http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/DriTroubleshooting

Sorry, working as a tech support does that to people :] Some folks cant be helped without a nice clean bash in the head.

well, i can't play gltron neither gl*** games, only quake3 and enemy-territory. When gltron and others try to start, they say there is no opengl support compiled-in the driver. The matter is that i can use anything that uses the dri interface, but tremulous and gl*** games.

when I asked about the driver you said yes to my "reverse engineered drivers", buy in fact you use ati drivers, not DRI .. clap - the sound of hands falling
:)

soo, start by installing the newest ati driver (8.26.18)
