port forwarding /fps issue
« on: July 28, 2006, 02:00:14 pm »
Are there any ports trem uses i should forward in router to get less lag?

Another thing is the fact that im getting only 25 fps sometimes though i got a 7800 gtx and dualcore cpu. Any tips to improve the fps (yes disabling effects might be a solution but i should be able to play it in always 90 fps with my pc.

I have similar spec.. but way lower gfx card (nv 6600GT) I usually play 1280x1024 full detail at 90 fps, fps drops only when lag comes... So I think the real problem is in your network...
Do you have low fps when you do local play ? (ie. /devmap )

it drops mostly when many humans are shooting their energy weapons.
Or when i approch other players.
The strange thing is that i always got good pings around 50-70. Though it feels as if it lags but the ping doesnt cahnge.

Maybe you should try to lower some graphics effects and try to spectate a tyrant rush on SST maybe on niveous :)
If fps still drops down then probably the problem is network related (throughput ?)
I sometimes have this problem too, but it seems related to some player whith crappy ping, every time i meet him the game becomes a slideshow ....

I'm not entirely sure how the network speed would affect fps.
I get lag sometimes, but when it happens the models still sit there flailing their legs at 60 fps.

Not to reiterate the obvious, but have you changed your net & sound setting to be higher than 33.6 modem?  Even with a good ping this latency setting will cause you to lag if it's not set to ISDN or higher.

Of course i did.

I could solve the fps issue. I turned off one core of my dual core cpu for tremulous.
But the lag is still present.
I didnt have this lag before i reinstalled windows and tremulous and bf is runnign fine.

Any network console commands that could help?
