Entitie Issues
« on: May 07, 2011, 06:18:25 am »
Hey guys its Jack

Today I have an issue. In brief I have my elevator in my recent map. It has 4 poles that slide up/down when the elevator moves. When the elevator is at the top floor the poles protrude out into their caulk box. Where they originally spawned. But through the skybox in my alleyway you can see the poles. It is fustrating as I do not want to raise the walls etc. It is generally an ugly nuisence. Ive tried applying no-draw and other shaders infront of the poles but they wont dissapear. Is their a custom shader I can make to hide them or is there a current one?

Check the screenies, post an answer or theory, many thanks

From my own personal experience I've found that if you have a skybox then you can see through to the other parts of your map behind the skybox. It's a pain. I have no suggestions.

Did you compile with vis? This might fix the problem (as long as the elevator and the part with the skybox are not too close together. Otherwise, you could just place a building blocking the view to the elevator.

You can't because the skybox allows you to see through walls.

It does not exactly allow you to see through walls afaik: You can see through a skybox. If there is a wall (or a entity) behind the skybox, it will be drawn as long as the "vis-block" the entity is in is visible from the block the player is standing in (I know I suck at explaining. I don't know your knowledge of vis, but I can only recommend this: http://tremmapping.pbworks.com/w/page/22453205/Understanding-Vis-and-Hint-Brushes).

Btw Jack, are you using a big skybox all around the map or just a ceiling with a skybox-shader".

If I had the .map file available, I might find a solution to the problem.

Xedoh: Im am currently using skybox ceiling. I have tried making buildings in the surrounding and using a box skybox surrounding the area. Though I did not like the end effect of this. I will pm you the .map if you like. Just post yes or no here or if you have any other solutions. This is my last issue before I can realease the map to the community.

Thanks for help so far

Good thing you are using the skybox as a ceiling (A big skybox all around the map completely messes up the vis). What exactly was the effect you disliked about adding more surrounding buildings?

Yes, I'd like to have a look at the file. I can't promise that I will find a solution, but maybe I can come up with something. Also, if you send me the file, please tell me if I need any non-default textures.

Having larger surrounding buildings makes my alley seem far too tall and ultimately makes the alley very dark. Which I do not like. If I do send you the map file you will require trak's texture pack #4 or trak4. An urban pack. 1984 is also required for the mere window texture. Check you pms Xedoh
