I seriously think /callvote poll really should be added to gpp. It should show WarLock about who will actually agree and don't. Being sensible, all should not vote f2.
But Warlock is a great player, and i think his username was one of the first few to remember (gpp only) after jellie.

Goodbye Warlock.
The few times i played with you were fun, and i think your a good person to play trem with, so with that i hope you come back soon. it will be less fun without you. i liked the challenges you imposed and other times the challenges you helped at least me get through during a game. you were a respectful, good player, and many liked you.

PS
if you are leaving because this game is getting old and you need something new, have fun.
however, if this is about admin there are 4 words i would like to say.
YOU ARE AN IDIOT.

this might seem mean to say but I think warlock need to go ... It seemed like he was always mad when he played ... he was to good and would always flame on noobs .... when you hit this point in a game where your just to good and the fun is gone you need to find a new game or at least take a break ... maybe in sometime the game will spark his interest and he will return and actually have fun but from what I saw he was always temperamental ...

Honestly, when he's the guy carrying the team and no one else is even trying to be useful, I can understand his frustration.

a game where one player is carrying his team to victory is rarely fun for the rest of us, either.

WRONGTM! trolling around in the base is something that will be fun forever. playing teamkilling games with your friends is also fun from time to time. learning the (new) mechanics of the game is fun at first (and there are a lot of newbies in Tremulous). all of the previous activities are a frustration for the professionals.

though yes, there are several n00bs, who are just stupid, but still play. they think they're having fun, but they can't comprehend how much more fun they can be having by concentrating more on teamwork.

so, rather than change the game so that one player can not be a crushing advantage, you suggest i fuck off in the base and teamkill.

excellent.

i do not suggest that. i am just pointing out that frustration for the outstandingly skilled player does not imply boredom for the rest of the team.
i also do not recommend changing the gameplay to disallow one player to play an outstanding role for the team, as that would increase frustration, and perhaps bore basetrollers, even though basetrollers deserve that. instead, one could go about rewarding the skilled player accordingly, or forcing the rest of the team to be more useful. i'm not sure how to accomplish that right now.

i have no idea what effect reducing outstanding role could have on forcing the rest of the team to be more useful, notably i do not see that the former implies the latter.

who said anything about "forcing the rest of the team to be more useful"?

it's no fun for me, or most people i'd expect, when one player wins or loses the map for you for as long as he stays connected.

If you can build competently then you're an extremely valuable member of a team, even if you aren't as good as random uberskilled funspoiler guy, your team can fight him far more effectively with a decent base to fall back on, especially if he's just rushing and isn't bothering to build himself, one exceptional player defending generally isn't enough to save a default base, unless the attacking team is completely and utterly inept.

about some player "winning the game for you": you should learn to capitalize while you have cover; doing it is pretty easy, almost like trolling. then, there won't be any one dominant player -- at least the two of you will commit to winning, at a comparable level. in other words, you can fix it yourself.
about some player "losing the game for you": you are frustrated because "some" people are not even trying to be useful. fixing this requires changes or "drastic measures".

first point, 1 v 1 + assorted feeders is about as fun as watching paint dry.

second point, you misunderstood my point to your own point's benefit.  one player "losing the map for you" is one player on the other team more than equal to the totality of your own team.  one player "winning the map for you" is on your team, and carties it to victory.  any other player on your team is superfluous, that one player is more than equal to the totality of the other team.  neither situation is fun.

it does not start getting fun again till you have at least 3 v 3.  plus feeders.

i said: stop sucking (that's easy to do), and you won't have a 1v1 "in the background".

as has been discussed, easy (more luck-based) winning via things like 1-hit kills, should be avoided; we agree on that. but that is generally true for the whole game, not just for the case where one player easily dominates your team. after the easy winning potentials have been dealth with, if your team still gets owned by one player on the other team, then all of you seriously suck; in this case it should depend on you (not the game design) to improve your success in the game.

and reducing outstanding skill relevance will change the game towards 0v0 + feeders. would you call that an NvN instead (where N > 3)? do you have an idea what the cumulative fun-frustration difference will be?

for the first point (i'll avoid the very first "get better" thing, as it is inane), simple.  increase the focus on teamwork by making it impossible for one single player to accomplish the objective.  this has worked well in other games.  there are a few ways you can do this in trem, i'd like to hear what you think before spewing my ideas.

considering that trem is not the only objective-based fps featuring buildables, yes, i think i might understand what effect "reducing the outstanding skill relevance" might have - based on the mechanics and reaction to these games.  i can think of two games in the "genera" that have been around MUCH longer than trem, and still have a stronger following than trem.  i can not help but believe that a good portion of the appeal of these games comes from the near-inability to do anything solo.  one player can not dominate the game in any way, thus eliminating that source of aggravation, ensuring the game does not die from all the newcomers getting frustrated and leaving.

Would naming these other games be particularly harmful to the discussion?
btw, i think you wanted "genre", genera is the plural of genus.

i realise tremstats aren't a great way to judge a player's ability, but, fancy linking to your current active tremstats page so that we can assess how your game is improving, rak?
