You either have a gfx without 3D or you did not install a driver that supports the 3D part your your gfx.

Get the driver with 3D support or get a 3D capable gfx.
Sounds ez .)

But if you are on a laptop, you are stuck.

why? if you have integrated graphics, then yes, you are stuck, but many laptops come with ati or nvidia cards, and those will work just fine (like my laptop, it has a radeon 9200, so not only do i get to play trem, i get to do it without that ugly closed source code polluting my kernel)

Since when is a OSS driver for ATI available that supports 3D? :D

around the time of the radeon 9200, ati provided very good documentation on their video cards, so it was possible to write an open source hardware implementation based on DRI, unfortunately, ati no longer provides the great documentation so with newer cards, you are stuck with fglrx.

That is new to me. AFAIK did ATI only distribute a binary only that did support the older Radeons.

Do you have a link to the source of the OSS-driver you mentioned?
