Raytray,
Have you tried Legends? It looks like Tribes meets Quake. The Torque engine was the one used for Tribes, no? Is this basically just a standalone freeware version of a Tribes 1+2 amalgam? Any elements of Aerial Assault, Vengeange, Renegades, or any other semi-popular Tribes games or mods? Is the gameplay any good? Any reason to download this and not the free version of Tribes, (other than that Legends seems to be a cooler, non-commercial Tribes for Linux, with somewhat more balanced weapons)?
How does it compare to Starsiege: 2845? SS: 2845 looks like it has some Tribes community support. Have you tried it? It has HERCS! (That's mechs to you non-Starsiege people.)
I wonder how well either of these games play to someone who's actually played (and liked) any of the Starsiege: Tribes games. They don't look or play like Quake. They feel a little different. Bigger, slower, stickier (or surprisingly slipperier), GPU- and connection-dependent, funnier physics, player more like a decal, more CTF & less DM, world more like an Impressionist painting than a Suicidal Tendencies/Iron Maiden/Flotsam&Jetsam album cover, etc. Not better, necessarily; just different. Different engine. Lots of keybinding and game scripting. (If can't place turret = then look up, left/strafe left/retry/repeat; If contact field armoury = open, sell chaingun, light armor, battery pack/buy medium armor, jam pack, grenade launcher, rocket launcher, disc launcher, mines, ammo, close) But I suppose there are a few Trem players with human loadout & human/alien builder keybinds. I hope there are. I need some.
PlayerOne is always looking to rekindle that first Tribes buzz
and has lots of questions
