Let's give that stack of CDs from the library a spin, shall we?
ToaD - "Not Meant to Be"
Pretty meh, in a commercial, post-Creed, Bush-must-be-in-office, PoM/Godsmack, hard rock/semi-metal, VH1/CMT way.
Ah, random play: what's next?
Opeth - "Hex Omega"
So much better. Thank you to yahoo for the recommendation. Also got Isis, the Mekons and of course some old man music (King Crimson and Yes).
And now for our next track:
The Mekons - "Johnny Miner"
A friend of mine, who likes Stiff Little Fingers, the Plimsouls, and Big Country, would really enjoy this. Not exactly my cup of tea, but not terrible.
ToaD - "Got it Made"
I like it better, but it's got a Linkin Park-esque MTV thing that I'm still not convinced by. Sounds like a summertime record. It's grey and gloomy here. Wrong mood. Maybe I'll listen to this again around July. Sounds like car music. Blessedly concise, at least.
The Mekons - "Memphis Egypt"
Noisy experimental punk. Anybody besides me remember the Lemondrops, Pere Ubu, Die Kreuzen, Racer X? Reminds me of that. Yeah, my buddy must listen to these guys. If he don't, he should.
Isis - Not in Rivers, But in Drops
I like it. Very prog, yet also stoner/sludge/ambient/metal-ish. Reminds me of King Crimson, a wee bit. Again, thanks yahoo.
@Kaleo: Still checking out the links that you posted. Nile and Bolt Thrower are both growing on me.
