Any chance to see a Mac version ?
« on: August 21, 2005, 04:29:48 pm »
Hi,

I really want to give your mod a try.
I can run Quake 3 on my Mac, but your .exe and .run aren't allowed for me :-/

Is it planned ?

Unfortunately the mod doesn't run on macs at the moment anyway. However, a standalone version of Trem (coming soonish) should prove much easier to debug, so keep checking back.

Hello. I'm new here. I just downloaded the stand-alone version, and used my Mac to compile the source code. The build was successful, but the game crashes when I try to run it; I get a black screen for a few seconds, and then get sent back to my terminal.

I just want to know if you're planning on making a pre-built Mac version that will run a little better for people like me who can't fiddle with source code  :) It is encouraging that I could compile it with the included Makefile; version 1.0.2 would not compile out of the box.

You havea great-looking project, and I can't wait to try it!

A: At the current time (March 2006), there is no Mac version. The original Q3 source release had problems on the Mac platform, as does the derivative ioq3 (which Tremulous uses). In order to get a Mac version you need to do one of three things: 1) buy us a Mac. 2) fix Mac ioq3. 3) find somebody else to fix ioq3. For what it's worth the current release of Tremulous should compile on the Mac, but due to the lack of a JIT VM it is likely to run prohibitively slowly.

I was able to get it working for the most part.

See:
http://tjw.org/tremulous/macosx/

You can get it here:
http://trem.tjw.org/Tremulous-20060409.dmg

There are some bugs, but it plays on my wife's mac.

My bandwidth is limited, so mirrors would be appreciated.

Neat tjw.  I was about to mirror it, but then noticed I'm not allowed to have that much shared on my tremulous.net account.  Timbo could up it to sourceforge though.

I should probably mention that this is not an 'official' release kind of thing... so any problems you get from it you can yell at tjw about instead of us.    >.>

And there is plenty to yell about I'm sure.  Consider this build some kind of greek letter if you're into that because it's not meant for everyone.   If you've never played Trem before, don't judge it as being buggy just because this build is.

Here are some problems I'm having with it already so you don't need to bother reporting (but do feel free to comment):

1) The backspace key (the one that says Delete on it for some reason) does not seem to work.  Workaround is to use a combination of the Home key, Arrows, and the real Delete key.

2) There is a problem with the intro avi, and possibly other AVI functionality.

3) Running a dedicated server probably does not work.

4) There's a problem with the translucent models you see when constructing.  This includes both the red/green ones when placing structures and the shiney blue ones when they are building (as human).  Also the structure's health indication bar has the same issue.  They work for me very intermittently.  I'm interested to know if everyone has this problem or just those of us with very crappy graphics hardware.

5) There's a good possibility that it will only run with OSX 10.4.

6) This is not a universal binary.  I could try to build one, but doubt I could get it working without an Intel Mac to test with.

I think I've fixed all of the major OSX-specific and ppc-specific bugs.

If you have a ppc Mac, give this version a try:

I can confirm that the 0413 build runs on both 10.4.6 and 10.3.9 on my iBook G3.

A note about 10.3 support: you must have OpenAL.framework installed in the system frameworks directory, either pull it from a 10.4 install or find it elsewhere.

I've heard the 1.0.13 installer from here works fine.

iBook G4 1Ghz - Mac OS 10.4.6

No Problems....at internet play, neither at local play

...only one thing...I tried to get out of the game while I was playing in a local network...it took a while then it quits and the finder had to restart...
but I think, that was because I was the host and I tried to quit while my only client (PC) also wanted to quit...

I don't think it has anything to do with the sourcecode...
you've done great work

mac bug
« Reply #14 on: May 09, 2006, 08:58:32 pm »
There is a bug with the mac version in that you can not select upgrades like the medkit and jetpack through the normal method of mouse wheel or [ and ].  See:

https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2698

This cannot be fixed easily since in order to play on pure servers you have to use the cgame.qvm that the server has (where the bug is).

As a workaround you should be able to use the following binds:

/bind j itemtoggle jetpack
/bind n itemact grenade

There is already a bind for itemact medkit (default m).

I can't get the grenade to work using this bind. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Any hints?

I've been working on it off and on for the past few weeks.   I'm getting the problem narrowed down now I think.  There seems to be a compiler bug
in gcc-4.0 when bulding vm_x86.c.  Unfortunately this version is required when building with the universal binary SDK.

I don't have an intel mac, so debugging has been painful.  I was finally able to reproduce the problem running the open source darwinx86, so that's an imporvement anyway.

mac standalone crashes
« Reply #22 on: June 18, 2006, 10:01:05 pm »
Iv tried to play but when i try to open it crashes right away.
I used consul in order to see why and it said this:

dyld: Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenAL.framework/Versions/A/OpenAL
  Referenced from: /Volumes/Tremulous 20060413/Tremulous.app/Contents/MacOS/Tremulous
Reason: Incompatible library version: Tremulous requires version 1.0.0 or later, but OpenAL provides version 0.0.0

Its confusing becuase im running 10.4.6 and all my AL is up to date.

How do you apply any of these fixes.  The patch doesn't have an installer.

There is a file "tremulous/base/autogen.cfg" which contains your complete configuration.
Open the file with a decent text editor and add the lines to it. Just take care no other things are bound to the "j" and "n" keys. In that case just use any other key... ;)

Armored_god, try copying Tremulous.app to a volume beside the disk image.  Might not work, but you never know.

Where is the base folder or the autogen file?  When I look inside my Tremulous folder I just see the files, CC, COPING, GPL, the folder SRC, and the application Tremulous.  I did a seach for autogen in the folder and nothing was found.

sadly that does not seem to be a fix to my problem.

But i did fix it. If it gives you that error delete al completly(from the library and system library) and reinstall and it works like magic. Jesus magic...er i say that cuase of sarah silvermans show thing....i watched recently..and... anyways i got it to work. And thats whats important.

You need to type those "bind" lines into the client console.  You can open the console by pressing the ~ key.  You should only need to do this once and they should be remembered.
