Global warming and the greenhouse effect are different!

Greenhouse effect:  Proven.  The natural CO2 in the atmosphere traps heat, allowing us to be a little warmer than the moon.

Global Warming:  Unproven.  Apocalyptic theory that due to human use of fossil fuels, the polar ice caps will melt, the Earth will flood, and everyone will die.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to research the flaw in this one.  Over the billions of years since the Earth was created, it has gone through cycles of warmer and colder.  It has gone through many cycles.  There is no reason for the cycles to change.  It will just get warmer for a while--not due to humans--and then it will get cooler.  It may wipe out human civilization, but if you treehuggers are all worried about the environment, your attitude should be "maybe the best thing for the Earth is for human civilization to be wiped out."

If you guys need something to worry about, it should be the moon.  Every year, the moon gets a few centimeters further away, and its stabilizing effect on the Earth is getting weaker.  Before the Earth floods, it will lose its hold on the moon and spin out of control, sending us whirling through ice ages and lava flows at an incredible rate.  Google it if you don't believe  me.  It's a fact, found through computer simulation.

I agree with floobud for once.  Global warming is not a issue to worry about.  Nor is the moon however.  All of these items take millions of years to occur.  If the human race lives to millions of years in age, then by golly gee the earth being 3 degrees hotter better not kill us off. Just because we haven't destroyed Earth doesn't mean we don't have the means to. It's mainly because we still need Earth and there isn't really any specific advantage if we destroy it. Try looking around what the current nukes can do and maybe you'll get the idea.

Good point, el bud de flood.  I actually did not know about the moon thing.  I'll have to look it up.  I personally believe that the we (mankind) do not have the power to destroy the earth.  With a whole bunch of nukes, we could make it pretty damn unlivable her for a while- we could definitely wipe out ourselves.  But the earth is the biggest heat and radiation sink around us.  Eventually the radiation and increased heat would die down, the dust would settle, and Nature would continue to grow and plod along at her usual pace, regardless and unheeding of her temporary tenants' eviction.

kobrakaine, the way you post, it seems as if you don't remotely believe in global warming. and scientists back then were not really scientists. they made guesses without testing them, and thier views were controlled by the church.

scientists nowadays test things and are secular. the technology that is available helps test these sort of things. in my physics class, the teacher went over global warming, showing us numerous pieces of evidence from reliable resources. unfortunately, i am too lazy to go and find any evidence for myself (or ask my teacher for his just so i can post on this forum). you can say that i am just spitting out bullshit if you like.

a couple decades or so ago, global warming was unsure. this is why so many of of older folks are still unsure of global warming. it's how they were raised. right now, however, it is proven fact. nothing else.
