Problem with using my jetpack
« on: December 03, 2007, 01:49:18 am »
I've been having an issue.  I just recently got this game, and I have it all figured out except for this one little issue.  When ever i get the upgrades such as the jetpack or grenades,  it will not let me select them to use them.  When i scroll through to select them, it skips right over them. The only things I can select are the blaster and the rifle when going through the list. it skips right over Things like the medkit, jetpack, and grenades.  I'm really confused, I even tried to rebind from the scroll wheel to buttons on the keyboard. Nothing seems to work.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian

Is it possible that you have an "itemtoggle blaster" bind that switches between the blaster and the primary weapon, instead of a "weapnext" bind that selects items in the inventory? If you automatically switch blaster/rifle at a single press of that button, then that's that.

type in the console:
/bind n weapnext
/bind m +button2

After that, n should scroll through the items, while m should activate the selected one.
Replace n and m with your button of preference.

Even better, get l33t binds.

I had the same problem, but downloading a new version of the game fixed it.

More smites than posts now. That has to be some kind of record, considering how long it took for that to happen. Thank you, Caveman, for your efforts in helping.

You're on a PPC mac, right?
This is a known bug, and it is fixed in newer cgames. Sadly, newer cgames don't play on most servers because your version has to match the server's version.
The standard workaround is to do:

/bind j "itemtoggle jetpack"
/bind n "itemact gren"

or, if you're super-cool:

/bind j "itemtoggle jetpack; buy jetpack"
/bind n "sell gren; itemact gren; buy gren"

The problem, IIRC, is that your mouse wheel is set in the Control Panel to scroll 3 lines at a time.  Try getting TJW's backport, see if that fixes it.

/bind j "itemact jetpack; buy jetpack"
Its itemtoggle jetpack, if you are "super-cool".
