Thats a lot of pretty swastika's! Too bad they are carried by NSDAP members. Also, the penguin is missing from their banners.

@Tycho: I do respect people's thoughts on the swastika, but respect does not automagically mean you have to adhere to someone's demands.

Bullshit. It isn't a statement about censorship its simply a 'let this be the reason you don't like me'/'oh look at me' thing. Sure you can display it here because it isn't against any rules of the forum but don't try to act like you are doing it for a good reason. Its disrespectful. Its not something that should have to be censored it is something that should be released out of respect. I personally don't have anything against you but I think your avatar is distasteful and the way you've dealt with it equally so.  You can say people won't care if you throw Mao or Stalin up or some such nonsense but you have no proof. Glorifying genocide is never a good cause.

The thing is, taste is something that differs per person. For every person that finds it distasteful, there is another person who thinks the opposite. What you basically are saying is that I am disrespectful because I refuse to adhere to other people's tastes.

And glorying genocice by showing a swastika? Then what am I glorifying if I for example had a 9mm pistol as my avatar? Violence? I might as well say you are glorifying drugs because you have a toad as your avatar, and licking toads is a well-known way to get hallucinating.

Just stop this sillyness, I'm not removing the avatar, better get used to it. There will be much, much more situations in your life where you come across something you find distasteful.

disgusting: highly offensive; arousing aversion or disgust

Since this differs per person, my point stands. What one might find distasteful, another might find tasteful.

If something is offensive, or arouses disgust, it is offensive and arouses disgust. Maybe not to all, or maybe not even to the majority, but it is the effect it has.

You seem to spontaneously respond without reading any of the preceding posts. Or maybe you haven't understood most parts of it, then I am sorry.
As stated before, the symbol itself does not have a meaning nor can it be distasteful, only the purpose of the symbol as given to it by the agents participating in the communication can be distasteful.
