Tremtopia.
« on: September 15, 2008, 01:05:13 pm »
After i was fighting 4 hours on several tremulous servers, reading the complains about feeding or
camping, curses about deconners, and humans being eaten or aliens being shoot, and seen myself as
a part in all of this, i suddenly got sick and bored of it all. I went to an empty server, and decided
to start something new. Let me introduce you to the result:

TREMTOPIA.

In Tremtopia, there is peace and harmony. Aliens and Humans don't kill or even fight each other,
so there is no need for separate bases or hidden eggs. They build a single, united base. Nodes standing
right beside eggs, acids and turrets were de constructed to get more building points for more non hostile
buildings like medipads.

Look at the picture, how the most important buildings stand right beside each other.
Doesn't it look like overmind is hugging the reactor? Two things united, like they should be?

So, if there is only peace, why do i need an armoury, you're asking? Well, even if there is peace
between the two races, there is no total equality. Every citizen of Tremtopia is still unique. And this
underlying difference can be dangerous, because it's latent deathly: the reactor is still harming aliens and
the overmind is still hurting the humans. That's why armoury is needed to buy armour, to decrease the
hurting.
There are still nodes, not because someone is murdered by another one, but because Tremtopia is still
a dangerous place: high staircases or closing doors can still kill you, but there is no need to worry: because
there are no defence structures, many nodes could be build, so you can spawn immediately, you are
loosing no second of this wonderful life. And with respawning, you CAN live for ever. But you don't HAVE
to. If YOU think, it's time to let go, you just can quit the game without consequences. And even better!
You can re-join again, if you discover, that quitting was the wrong decision.

Because no one is murdered, there is no reinforcement or evolving in Tremtopia. But as those only bring
better weapons, defence structure or deadlier classes, reinforcement or evolving is not needed any more.

Isn't Tremtopia kind of boring? Yes it is. But "boring" is a word, which wrongly is considered as something
negative. Compare it to your warm and safe bed, or a nest, or to an other place where you feel secure
and cushy. Yes, that's "boring", but flooded with the wonderful feeling of a place that you can finally call "home".

And by the way, no fighting doesn't mean no contact. You can still play with each other, kidding, fooling
around, jumping from one thing to another. Humans and Aliens can still chat (even in public chat without
fear of accidental sharing secret infos like "moving rc now"), they create friendships, talk about everything, not only
about cheaters or newbie-builders. My favourite would be playing hide & seek, but sadly, I was alone:

I lived in Tremtopia for about 40min. Sadly only one person entered, and left 10sec later, he didn't even spawn.
So Tremptopia was destructed by the level-reset, after my departure. I wonder if it might be possible to establish
a functionally Tremtopia, where responsible players enter and secure its continuity to infinity.
I wonder if I am alone with this dream.

Actually it should be Utremtopia, Tremtopia sounds more like a dystopia.

Your monitor is dodgy and you're misinterpreting the lower case "t"?

Btw, your graphics options are pretty bad, I use very high detail with Bloom lighting on, I guess not everyone in the world has a 2.4 Ghz computer like me. :P

Good idea for a topia for Tremulous, mind if I use it? :D

I also use high detail with Bloom enabled (although it makes it harder to see the enemy in some situations), though I only have a 800 Mhz AMD. But I have a halfway decent Graphics card, which is more important for these settings than the CPU.

Yea, your right. Even though my CPU is awsome, the rest of my computer is terrible it has 506 Mb of RAM (506? Yea, I messed up somewhere, didn't know how I lost some of my Mb :P ) and has a crappy graphics card. It doesn't support Cel-shading and my computer only supports Source Engine 1, playing anything else will make it uber-slow or it'll crash, and it doesn't support Doom 3 High quality settings either, only when I turn ALL the features off. I need a new graphics card. :/

Graphics card is mostly irrelevant to trem.  Its all CPU bound.

Yes, and because the performance is already limited by the CPU calculating physics and collisions and stuff it doesn't affect your FPS  much if you tune up the texture quality (which affects only the GPU).

Disagree. I upgraded a GF2 MX400 to a GF4 Ti 4200 and unless player count gets completely wild I have decent fps on almost any map. Now I can play tremulous at 1680x1050 with higher gfx settings than on the GF2 with 1024x768 resolution. Lets put it this way: If you have a decent CPU (lets say >2Ghz) upgrading your old gfx card will increase and stabilize your fps. If you already own a GF9800GTX upgrading it to the next higher thing will do nothing.

i want 1.2 to make OM and  Reac damage each others and acid tubes and machinegun turrets would shoot each others. it would be nice if it would be possible to make builders vs builders only match!!!

I'm serious.

On topic, I'm thinking of hosting a temporary Tremtopia server for the lulz during the weekend if anyone isn't going to do it.

Nah, screw it.
