TremChallenge Void of Deity Tournament Planning
« on: October 07, 2008, 05:20:23 pm »
Void of Deity will be hosting a full-scale Tremulous Tournament, planning stages have just begun, and we're looking for volunteers to assist in the planning and staffing process.  Several rules/servers/prizes are already in place, so if you're interested in being involved, head to http://voidofdeity.net/forum and post in the admissions board to be considered for staff/involved in the planning.

Thanks for your interest!

A Free 12 Slot Trem Server(a good one not a shitty home one) for a small period of time ranging from 2 weeks to 2 monhts.

The tournament part sounds good, the prizes, meh. My prize is just winning the damn thing and having fun, besides, if I wanted my own webspace/server I would've gotten my own. :P

Too bad the prizes don't include HL, god I want that game so badly. D:
Yea ok, that has nothing to do with anything, anyhow go Void clan/guild/whatever/I forgot! ;D

I can sense the skepticism.  Here, let me shed some light.  This is not TremLeague.

Haha, yes, this is not TremLeague, and this isn't a clan-based Tournament Yarou for that very reason, and for Darth Futaza and all those interested in competing, a new post will be made shortly with registration info.

Oh, and for all the would-be skeptics...yes, we know tourneys often wind up small/clan scene is dead/etc., but this is a start in pursuing Void's goal of promoting Tremulous, for new players and old alike.

Thanks!

You come all the way here just to tell us that?  Thanks for wasting our time.

If you're not interested in helping get this started, don't bother posting.  We have our own people to bump the topic.

The clan scene may be too slow to get it really going and only a few clans would be in the tournament probably, but if it does happen it's better than nothing...If it gets far enough, count NT in.

Here, let me clarify, again...  This is not a clan-based tournament.  (afaik)  It's a tournament with teams of friends that don't exactly consist of clan members.  For instance, there could be Dracone, me, Powa, and some random noob on a team.  These aren't exactly in concrete so bear with us...

Correct...this has nothing to do with clans for that very reason.  Rules and Guidelines will be posted shortly along with registration info.

Just because match ups will be played scrim style doesn't mean anything.  Think of it as a giant pick up tournament.

We are considering doing another tournament though, that will be clan based, and one that will be pick your own teams base.

This one however will be either completely random generated teams, or team captains will be picked and they can take turns picking out of the pool of players.  The reasons being for this is that there is tons of active players, but not tons of active clans.  The clan scene is too dead, though maybe a clan tournament would help get the clan scene going, this isn't the ideal of this particular tourny.

We plan on having more tournies, only the prizes wont be as good for clan based or pick your own team based tournies(as they will be less fair to the average player)

"Scrim" as in the widely accepted meaning: A competition between clans/guilds.

"Scrim" as in the widely accepted meaning: A competition between clans/guilds.
I started playing clanwars in 1995, and the word 'scrim' has always been used to define practice games between groups of people/clans, much like the good old wikipedia explains.
The games that will be played in this tournament sound like pickup games, a very common form of playing teamgames in Quake, made most famous by Rocket Arena, although it was called Clan Arena back then, to add to the confusion. Pickup games are hot, mad and usually a ton of fun, since you get to play with a wide range of people.

Small question: How will this tournament handle spectators? It would be nice to have a few people record the games, so you can deliver some really nice demos for people to watch.

We want to have 2-3 refs/subs for reach game, and would love to have the demo.

Every player will most likely be required to demo their view of the entire round just in case of cheating accustions etc.

Though most likely and hopefully none of the people playing will be required to submit their demo.  We hope everyone gives no reason to suspect cheating and that no one actually cheats.

We want 2-4 people demoing the game from spectator.  Maybe one for each team and one free floating around.

You realize the clan scene is dead, right?

April 2008. French clan scene seemed fully dead. wwF organise TFT tournament (French Tremulous Tournament).

12 registered clans
about 70 registered players
2 new clans created for the tournament (One of them still alive)
38 matchs played
All french clans up and aware for 2 months.

Well, it maybe not a so bad idea to organise a new tournament :)

A problem with internationalisation is where ? US (and 150-200 ping for european), Europe ? (and 150-200 ping for US) (and I don't talk about other countries with tremulous community ...)
Maybe we could ask to amanieu to host the tournament ? so everyone will have 400 ping :D

And please, let me give you an advice : match should be planed by organizers, not by players. That's why Gamefest failed, and why TFT successed.

The best way to solve a intercontinental tournament, like one between Europe and the United States of Americe, is to play games on both European and American servers, much like football tournaments. With football I mean the sane version of the sport, not the spandex-induced American version.
