There are three stages for each team, which unlock the more advanced weapons and classes. You have to make enough kills to advance to the next stage, before you can get the cooler toys.
And, yeah, don't forget to sell your carried weapon or ckit, so that you can buy a new one. You can't sell your blaster, and the carry limit for "weapon" (which in this case includes the ckit) is blaster plus one. I hope that helps. Somewhere, you can even change the number of kills required to advance the stage counter. I would recommend that you play for a while before changing too many settings, though.
Good luck.
Here's a link (http://tremulous.net/manual/) to the manual. Although I'm pretty sure it neglects to mention that you need to sell your rifle, it does mention the carry limit, and there is a brief discussion of stages.
In short: Keep killing stuff. You'll see.

THNX! i love you guys! how do i gets stuffs 4 aliens? like adv granger. like, how many kills?
-
9 kills for advanced granger
-
The Stage Counter will advance when enough kills have been made. I really can't remember how this is computed (set amount, or varies depending on number of players on server). Also, the server op can change this quite easily, iirc. Someone will be along soon to correct me or explain it better, if you're lucky enough.
On Humans, look for this announcement: Reinforcements have arrived!
On Aliens, look for this announcement: We have evolved!
Welcome to Tremulous. Glad to see that you are enjoying it. Cheers!

thanks player1 i love this game!!!!! ALIENS ROXXORZ :acidtube: :egg: :overmind:

Notice how Nekro thanked P1 and not everybody else. Also notice that P1 seemed to also be the only one who wasn't a dick (Kelverman helped, negatively) and actually decided to answer his question instead of getting pissed thinking that this noob has to GTFO and learn by himself. I had the same exact problem, and it took me a month to notice the "Sell" function because it was in an area at the time I believe was "hidden".
Just guess how pissed I would be if I asked this question and everybody decides to tell me "Go kill something". If its that simple, answer the damn question. I'm reacting to this because it happens alot to new players, people tell them to go fuck themselves and learn which steepens the learning curve. If all of this wasn't true, I dn't see the point of me acting like a jerk right now and talk about this.
Anyways, gl Nekro on the game, cheers.

i hope that was a compliment, it sounded like one, and yes ur exactly right. if kill something was the answer, i wouldnt be here... thnx hendrich

Notice how player1 was the first to do exactly what you're praising him for not doing.

When player1 answered it there was less details and no explination. He asked how to stage up, which the answer to that is kill something. Then he clarified that they had killed stuff. So player1 reclarified.

Assuming that player1 was trying to be perfectly helpful the whole time, what were you doing?

The original answer was in keeping with the somewhat vague query. What separates this exchange from the usual "GTFO n00b" response was that nekronuke was not deterred, and chose to explicate, which is why I owed him the courtesy of a considered reply. As + OPTIMUS + has well expressed, Tremulous is an RPG; you just get the experience points out of game.
Anyway, welcome to nekronuke and his LAN-mates, may they enjoy the fragging delight that we enjoy.
Cheers!
And to Undeference, if you read Archangel's reply, it is obvious that he is just reiterating the fact that they just need to keep killing stuff. A few kills in any game rarely unlocks the next level. In his own inimitable way, it was as if he was saying "Stop typing. Keep slaying. Things will happen."

What was I doing? Considering Archangel != Annihilation I have no clue what you're talking about. I didn't see this thread until after the problem was solved.
Really, can you not even read names?

No problem then :P Just thought I'd point that out.
