...Which is precisely why I did not start this clan.

I hope this is what all veteran clans move towards. Scrimming and whatever just makes it harder to get along with everyone else. I agree, there's nothing left to prove, especially since only in public games can you truly shine. Scrimming forces your to be a pussy, always returning to base, crouching in most clans' cases, and never attacking alone. Public games allow for epic shotty vs tyrant fights constantly.

scrimming forces you to do nothing, if you play like a pussy, you are a pussy.

No, when you play pub it's only yourself you hurt by not being a pussy. When you play scrims it lets the team down. Noone wants to be the player that gives the desperately camping humans their s2 kill.

P.S. you're retarded and quit aliasing like a, well, pussy.

Some people may not like scrims, and that is fine. But I like the teamwork that goes a long with scrims, along with trying new tactics. It just adds a whole new flavor to tremulous. Public games are fun every once in a while but I like working with my team to finish the enemy, and now they are nothing like that. You have a bunch of idiots on your team who don't listen, play stupid and I do not find that fun. :(

Hey,

Everyone has his or her own personal preference. Most of us *personally* do not want to scrim anymore - we've scrimmed way too much in Zubs, NT, {V}, etc...
We're not being annoying. We're not forcing you to stop scrimming. If you have fun doing it...great! We don't. +1 to everything Ozzy said. Whether or not you'd like to admit it, that is what every scrim I have seen for the past month has involved...crouching, running back to base, fighting ONLY in teams, camping at times, etc. If that's what you enjoy, so be it. We aren't saying that's objectively bad. We just don't enjoy doing that, and so we won't do that. We'll do what we enjoy, which is having fun, competitive public matches, usually on the AA server. It's not as bad as you say it is, actually. There are plenty of decent players out there now, and if you play with a couple of your clan members, using teamwork in pub matches is very easy. Even if you can't use teamwork in public matches (happens)...I really enjoy winning public games by myself, especially when my team is utter garbage.

Btw, I usually don't ignore sock puppet accounts because I find most of them humorous, but...you guys aren't even close to n00b pl0x. :/ Go away, thanks.

@Everyone else: Thanks for the support!

I don't find some of the tactics fun in scrims, I find the teamwork that goes along with scrims fun and exciting. When we scrim on other maps besides atcs the tactics are never the same so you have to adapt to each game accordingly. If you use teamwork in pub games with good players and your clan members it can be fun, but I just don't like pub games with random idiots that ruin the whole game.

What's the point of making a clan if you don't want to scrim. You could have just been clanless and gamed with those same people in your clan right now, btw. Best of luck.
Title: Re: The Sea Men Syndicate
Post by: Dracone on July 15, 2009, 05:36:59 pm
I see scrims as events where teamwork can come into play to allow you to do individual operations that you normally could not pull off often. On the other hand, they're terrible in most cases for camping and such, because people seem to be unable to say, "Fuck it." Scrims have gotten to where they are entirely because of, depending on the people whose opinions affect the actions of the team, a combination of stupidity and the desire to piss the other clan off in some cases.

However, I'll gladly stop playing in a public game to go scrim, so long as there is a scrim going on. Looking for scrims in the current Tremulous is an even bigger waste of time than going into a scrim with a clan that will camp for 60 minutes. But still, I enjoy scrims, mostly because I don't care how bad the enemy is camping because I will do what I want if I'm starting to get bored. I join a clan for the opportunity the clan provides me to be entertained by this game, not for my personal liking of the players who are in the clans I join.

Fair enough. As long as you enjoy it.

Same reason you go to church.

Anyway, it's pointless to debate this, since it's just our personal preferences. I doubt we'll change our minds. We play on different servers, or with different  people, or with different play-styles, so we obviously play different public matches. It's not very elucidative to make comparisons. I think it's very easy to use teamwork in public matches; you think it's easier/more enjoyable to do that in scrims. Everyone is correct!

P.S. The above is for the sake of argument. Personally, I don't really enjoy using teamwork that much. I enjoy playing solo more.

Define "you guys," because honestly, I think I earned myself a place in the Court of Trolls quite a long time ago.  Player1, n00b pl0x, Steely Ann, Henners, and yes, even the mighty Lava Croft... these are my peers, bro.

(I don't have any puppet accounts who've posted in this thread though.)

Yay tremulous now has retirement homes! The retirement home stage is a serious stage in the life cycle of computer games which often denotes the downfall of the game in question. Old players will join a community of other old-timers where they reminisce about past glory, grumble and play a few public games now and then (which they pwn horribly) scaring away new blood.

RIP tremulous.

P.S. Welcome to the club. Have fun.

Player 1 wasn't a troll, neither was Henners or Steely Ann. They were just forum whores.

Real trolls:
n00b pl0x
AppleJuice
Lava Croft
Caveman
Volt with his sock puppet accounts
[us]belier13
Grape (Or he's just retarded, hard to tell)
Yahoo (Though he was fairly minor compared to the others)
Nitrox

I'm sure I'm missing a couple, but I don't feel like going through old threads to weed them out.

I fail to see Player1 as a troll, maybe Henners. But definitely not Steely Ann.

Having perfect grammar and making paragraph-long posts for no apparent reason other than to bore us with their walls of text, don't make them trolls.

I can't tell if ozzy is sincerely trying to defend this and encourage it, or if he's just trying to make a decent public appearance due to the fact that AoD, now, once again, has lost the bulk of its skill and members.  Meh.  Gl hf I hope to see you guys in public games.  I've gotten bored in public games, because I either play against 3of aliased and he wastes me, or I play against pollacks and there is no use in trying, as you win almost all the rounds goofing off, maybe a clan focused on public games is more what the community needs, I just wish it was bigger and had its own server, trem needs more better servers.  AA is an okay server, but the fact that 32 people can connect and only 22 can play gets irritating fast, its just too popular to hold everyone who wants to play there, it was fine when <3 server was around because it maintained the overflow, but now where do they go?  OPP?  Haha, yeah, I'm sure most of the AA regulars would fit in well there.  Just mind your language.   ;)

@ Kaine, any self proclaimed troll, is not at troll at all.  Troll's don't ever ask for recognition, they get their recognition out of the humorous dimwitted replies of anger they get in reply to their trolling.  That or they're just retarded, like grape and nitrox.

Never even realized there was a second page, I was replying to the last post on the 1st.

@powa do you ever make a post that isn't to dis me? You're a reflection of Myth, there are better things to discuss than myself. AoD lost its skill and members? That's a bit of a slap in the face to Darc, Saik, Coffee, Colynn, Bezerk, Bullseye, Guygun, ExPowerRanger, and Daz, all of which are active. But similar to apple's statement, I don't feel the need to prove anything. An all-pro clan, that was zubs. Fucking around on AA server, that's AoD.

Like I would have to "make a public appearance." I own the AA server, in case you forgot.

On a side note, I agree that the 32 slots, 22 playable is annoying, but that's hibby's doing, not mine.

Yes I make posts not to dis you.  Quiet frequently actually.  I'm just sick of seeing two different ozzie's, there is the ozzy you see in game and on aim, and then there is the ozzy you see on these forums or around yahoo and others.

Also, you were the one that said "I have all the best players, I don't lose." and then named out specifics, which includes everyone who's now in this clan instead of yours.  Including *not* mentioning guygun.  I'm glad you're crediting your other players now, becuase before it seemed they didn't matter, since you had anger, yarou, and others.

The difference between myth and I is, myth just looked for reasons to get on you, I just call what I see.  I've always been like that, I call what I see, but I also don't claim to be all-seeing.  So I'm sure I'm wrong plenty but heh, its the forums for a video game.  I also remember you saying how much the clan was about loyalty and about how no one had it to the point I thought you were going to fall into my arms crying through aim.  Then you bring all these people in, who you know aren't loyal to shit other than drama, and now they're gone.  At least this time it wasn't because of drama I hope... but, they still didn't last too long.  Why couldn't they of just stayed in AoD and not scrimmed?  Besides that apple wouldn't be "involved."  Heh, I don't mean to dis what AoD is, in fact I now see it as a stronger clan than its been in a long time, probably since it was founded, though it wont ever be top notch again until you can get denton back and force him to try again.  :P

You have no room to deny it ozzy, you act like a different person around different people, everyone does that a little to fit in, but it just makes me wonder who the real ozzy is, was I loyal and friends with the real ozzy, or a fake one?

(thanks sea :P )

Lots of stuff about me that's mostly true

I acknowledge my changing over time. I went from "I love anyone who plays Tremulous" to "I can't hardly stand anyone, but I'll try my best to get along with at least some of them."

Yeah, it seems like the good players are less loyal, but don't forget that everyone from AoD has been in some other clan at some time or another. Freak was my favorite member, and even he left and came back twice during the original AoD.

When I play the game, you will hear me tell people that I am the best, or that they are a worthless player. It's mean and inconsiderate and I should stop, but I get tired of every single nobody coming in and demanding a 1v1 like they are someone special, and then making excuses about it immediately afterwards.

Being the lucky owner of a server like I am, everyone has at least one complaint. All day I have to listen to everyone's suggestions and criticism. This has led to my policy of instantly banning anyone who comes in with the purpose of annoying me. Yeah, I realize it's important to be able to take a joke, but it's too many people thinking they are funny or original with their shit.

The Ozzy of the old AoD matches my real-life personality the best, but that personality gets walked on in tremulous. Also on the forums. If anyone really wanted to be a friend anymore, they would have no problems See: Bezerk. However, most people are looking for admin or a temporary clanship, and I'm going to keep seeing right through it.

Let this count as my single apology/justification to the Tremulous community for the way I've changed over the past two years, I'm not going to repeat it. If you think I'm difficult to get along with, you haven't tried, or you haven't realized how much you're displaying your desire to get something out of the "friendship."

Anyway...

We are in the process of setting up an official (whatever that means) public Tremulous server. There will be no scrims on this server for the forseeable future; pub games only!

A special thanks to Yarou for hosting the server for everyone!

Server: /connect quakedev.com
Name: &
Map rotation: ATCS, Arachnid2, ATCS, Niveus, ATCS, Nexus6, ATCS, Tremor, ATCS, Transit (subject to change).

We will create forums shortly to facilitate admin applications, ban appeals, suggestions and the like. All are welcome! Everyone has a clean slate on this server! No auto-bans just because we don't like you. :)

We will appoint several server admins shortly, upon reviewing their applications (should anyone apply, that is). Apply if you think you're responsible enough!

Help keep Tremulous alive! Enjoy!

HEY EVERYONE

The following has recently come to my attention:

A few players think I (AppleJuice) am also AppleZ. I am not AppleZ. We are two completely different people.

APPLEJUICE != APPLEZ

I hope this CLEARS any CONFUSION.

To reiterate: AppleJuice is NOT AppleZ.

This has everything to do with the Sea Men Syndicate.

I am AppleZ so hopefully we don't get confused anymore.

Btw getting a clan is about scrimming to show ur clan has better players, not to camp and be pussy if ur gonna do that fucking die or something u make scrimming look boring wen im reality it isn't. Having a clan to own in public servers dominating a game makes no sense atleast to me it doesn't might aswell do it solo makes u look better (aslong as ur team in the pub server is garbage or shitty). Well this is my opinion other wise gl with ur clan.

having a clan using teamwork together in a public game would be much more fun than in a scrim, cuz in a pub game you can do what ever crazy thing and theres no consequence
but like in scrims, people are afraid to do anything because its a scrim

Am I the only one who can't find any logic at all in the quote? The clan has a pretty simple idea, I'm not sure why people don't understand it (and then still feel the need to say "good luck" after not agreeing with the clan preferences.) We don't scrim for two reasons, one of which being this is a clan about fun and we don't have any fun scrimming other clans. The other reason is because we have nothing to prove to anybody, we don't care if other people think "they have better players."

We're still deciding which theme to use...currently, we're using Asylum's theme (sorry, but it's awesome!), but it might change at any time (hence, we still use the default logo).

Register! Also, our server is temporarily down; if this continues, we will be switching servers shortly.

An announcement will be made shortly, concerning the server and what to expect from it.

You know what's the difference between Brian Dracone and Dragula? I don't need to pay Brian Dracone.

What's the difference between my dog and AppleJuice? My dog hates it when the Dog Collar is too tight.

Update:

We are currently accepting scrim challenges (we have been for the past week or two), so we do in fact scrim. However, we still maintain that if you camp or crouch excessively, we will promptly leave the scrim. So far, Asylum and PmW have been great! Good scrims.

Regardless, we will still only scrim when we want to, and we will most likely stop scrimming or scrim much less often after September (inactivity).
Title: Re: The Sea Men Syndicate
Post by: Grape on August 05, 2009, 04:42:21 pm

@Everyone else: Thanks for the support!

so, so far

house clan tied you/almost won (a clan comprised of relatively new players)
AoD beat you (a relatively inactive clan)
asylum beat you (a new clan)
PmW beat you (no explanation necessary)
(basically, clans far less experienced than >< can beat you)
but that's not the main point
which is
you refuse to scrim us
you hide in a private mumble channel so no one can ask you
you ignore our scrim requests in-game
you scrim SoH for hours to boost your ego (and still lose 2 rounds)

Ok, so you can't ignore us anymore: Scrim us!

(Btw, to keep this (read: clan) community alive, keep the flames alive...it actually helps competition)

Yeah I totally agree once people stop caring enough to flame they will stop caring enough to scirm (which I'm glad you guys changed your mind on :) ) and that will kill the clan community.

So here you are willing to flame, but not scrim? Isn't that a complete contradiction to what you just said?

I try to stay out of these things. Except in the case of TST, I'm willing to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Jcool though, is perfectly willing to stoop to banning me from VOIP where no one's had a problem with me for months, simply because I'm in a clan he disagrees with and before I can even say hello. And yet, somehow I'm not surprised. Good show boys. Not like there wasn't enough drama here already.

I have no idea what has been going on in this game for months, but I really don't see how flaming will help the situation any. That goes for both sides.

The time for debate is over. We need to stop talking and start acting. Better yet, we need to establish a supportive—rather than an intimidating—atmosphere for offering public comment. Let me cut to the chase: I do not have the time, in one sitting, to go into the long answer as to why many of us do not wish to live within n00b pl0x's walls of propagandism. But the short answer is that if you were to ask him, he'd say that he doesn't remember destroying our moral fiber. Not only does n00b pl0x indisputably have a very selective memory, but he is an inspiration to mealymouthed headcases everywhere. They panegyrize pl0x's crusade to foster suspicion—if not hatred—of "outsiders" and, more importantly, they don't realize that when it comes to pl0x's monographs, I undeniably think that we have drifted along for too long in a state of blissful denial and outright complacency. It's time to give peace a chance. The sooner we do that the better because n00b pl0x thinks that his litanies are Holy Writ. Of course, thinking so doesn't make it so. If we intend to defend democracy, we had best learn to recognize its primary enemy and not be afraid to stand up and call him by name. That name is n00b pl0x.

I will be inactive until late December (college, gf, etc). We will probably scrim far less often, if at all. Back to pub games! GL HF, {&}!

All future applications will most likely be rejected, unless we have known you for a while (1+ year).

Everyone I have insulted over the past 2 months is still a faggot. You will still be faggots when I return.
And you will still suck.

Roster has finally been updated.
Blade began shooting blanks a while ago. Iabz munched on ManiaC's pubes until he joined. The end.

We have a 1.2 server for public games/pick-up games/scrims/devmap 1v1s (mostly the latter three). Look for 'The Black Pearl.' Feel free to come; known players will receive appropriate admin rights (we also have revert/etc). However, if you're an idiot who thinks Tremulous is only good for pub games/scrims and doesn't know how to properly 1v1, please don't come unless we're having a type of game of which you approve.

Also, most of us seem to play 1.2 now (I stopped checking 1.1 servers, but I see most of us on 1.2 ones).

As a side note, we're still the best clan. GGs!

The Sea Men went on their annual bacon fishing trip, and unexpectedly caught a giant Whale. We then watched an ExPowerRanger's foray into gay porn.

I'll be inactive until May. I expect everyone to be great at 1.2 when I return!

Here is my contribution to the clan scene...  It's a history of the Sea Men Syndicate's clan activities regarding members.  I thought Apple's little story lines were pretty cool so I decided to turn them into one big repository.

_________________________________________________ ______________________________________________

Dustin and Iabz have joined us.

Blade has boarded our ship!

Lestrange has been captured!

DRACONE HAS WALKED THE PLANK U C (he joined lol)

Manic was found naked in a smuggled crate of gold. He has joined us.

men is now our ship's mast. We use him to scare away the homophobes.

Kriegsgott was found floating in the sea, covered with a strange, white substance. Iabz licked his lips.  We saved him.

Iabz kidnapped Jit from a homophobic nudist colony. He then licked Jit's lips.  Ahoy!

Cipher and StevenM were rescued from the mouth of a deadly Mexican kraken. Welcome!

Blade began shooting blanks a while ago. Iabz munched on ManiaC's pubes until he joined. The end.
(My favorite)

Whales was too heavy, and was dumped back into the lonely ocean.

Anyway, I've come to realize a few things during my prolonged absences over the past year. Being as inactive as I am, I can't really expect {&} to remain a highly skilled and active clan. There's just no one who can lead it to my satisfaction, other than myself. This stems from a fundamental confusion; the clan as a whole has forgotten why it was founded. If you refer to my original post, you'll see that we were never meant to scrim (precisely due to this expected inactivity). We had fun scrimming last year, when I was active, but lately I've just heard excuse after excuse. I'm not really surprised; I never expected inactivity to go as well as it has already.

Therefore, {&} will no longer be scrimming competitively. I don't care if you beat us (a few of you probably already have during our inactive period, now). We will be returning to our roots: we are now a clan meant mainly for inactive players who just want a cool group to come back to when they do play. I've informed my members that they're free to leave if they disagree, so there's no big drama here. You can still scrim us for fun if you want to; just know that I'm no longer expecting us to be the best clan, so you don't have to tell me.

@Xenocide: All interclan feuding aside, you guys are a good clan. I'm glad you survived for as long as you did, because our matches/dramas made Tremulous much more enjoyable (at least for me). FreaK, I meant it when I said I was just trolling you before. You're a really good 1.2 player (top 5-10 at least), which is all that matters at this point (1.1 is over, guys, caman). J-cool, you're still dumb, though.

I don't want to make a long post. I'm not quitting trem or anything, but I will probably barely play from now on. Have fun bros!

Hello. Small update.

Current Roster:
AppleJuice
Yarou
St. Anger
men
Kriegsgott
Amine
Punjabi
Cipher
Dragula
Iabz
StevenM
Seijuro

We are going to play several different games, most notably SC2, L4D2, TF2, League of Legends and Trem 1.2. Forums and mumble may be up shortly (Apple hasn't decided if they are necessary, yet).

Our primary goals are:
1. Real life
2. Avoid being losers who talk about how pro they are in a game (even though there is no other clan that is good right now, skill-wise, other than Xenocide)
3. Avoid the drama of years past

Talk to AppleJuice if you'd like to join. If you don't know how to contact him, you can't join (he won't check his PMs).

Peace.
