Title: Sound - ATMOSPHERE (plz include mp3 support)
Post by: nubcake on February 25, 2010, 11:35:06 pm
Hey, how easy/hard would it be to include mp3 support? I would really like to have some background music (akin to Unreal Tournament) without having to use a 40mb wav file, also for extra sound effects. I think there are a number of libs for mp3?

Just a simple thing that could open up many doors.

There is already ogg support, although it's disabled by default.  Not sure if it'll be on in 1.2.

MP3 has patent issues so can't be used in free software without tons of shit.

yeh ogg is disabled by default id like it to be enabled and .dll's included in the release(since knowing windows users theyll have trouble installing something)

theres a .patch that uses libmad here :http://ioquake3.org/extras/patches/ (http://ioquake3.org/extras/patches/) afaik there isn't tons of sh*t thats needed to use it but im not that into all that licence crap :) but like the page says Ogg/Vorbis is a much better choice(hence why its on the extras page of ioq3)

would be interesting if the tremulous had a folder called "music", which would be lists of reproductions(where you could hear music or atmosphere sound[like fear] in the game).
