Hey everyone, it's me. ( !s founder, >< member )
Thinking about getting back into this game. Will probably wait for 1.2 though.
Gimme an update on the zeitgeist, how's this game doing? Still active?
-
More active than ever before!
-
There are teams, but no more scene.
In Europe, it's totally inactive. Old good teams are now dead, it has been months I don't have heard of a recent CW and fresh blood is rare.
In US, I don't really know. Perhaps it's a bit more active than in Europe.
-
Yes! We are at a point where we are reaching an average of 30 players online, as opposed to the earlier average of 20!
-
Hey Janook, great to see you!
There are still clans around here in North America. I only get on a few times a week but all three of my clans, Xenocide, CTU, and SoH, remain somewhat active.
-
Yes, and no. I think the clan scene is thriving, but it's hard to find a DECENT clan that decent players can join, I'm not talking about l337 players, who can get into >< and Seamen, I mean people who are above joining Kitty (No offense), or another "noob" clan.

why doesnt everyone cut the shit, tremulous is as dead as it ever will be.
-
we'll scrim u in urt.

That means it can only go up from here. >.>

You gotta hit bottom kid. You gotta hit bottom or you'll never reach the top.
There is a large lack of players, I'm still hoping one day, perhaps on 12/12/2012 with the release of 1.2 the population will surge up. (If only for a few hours, before the mayans kill us all.)

As europen ex-player i'm sorry to say this but the competitive side of this game is gone.
Many clans has resisted 'till the end, but now is completly ended.
And i think that the gpp release was the final blow. Many has waited for a new release ( ok, it was a "beta" but you can get the idea ) and when they looked at it so many was disappointed, and since it has no real new features for attracting new players or get into the news, the older players quitted and the new are not coming.
I just hope that the idea behind tremulous can reborn under some new/tweaked engine/graphics so that it can be attractive again.
It had so many good ideas that is so bad that it's over.
I really hope that in america things are different.

Graphics are being worked on. The GPP is a "gameplay preview". You can't be disappointed that there was no new graphics when there wasn't supposed to be any in GPP anyway. Personally, I think the gameplay in 1.2 GPP is vastly superior to 1.1.
However, there is no doubt that the clan scene is pretty dead right now.

Yeah, it's a sad and unfortunately true realization.
The clan scene in tremulous was never big but it was something.
I would agree with GPP being the final blow. Post-gpp there were absolutely no decent 1.1 server with players left, unless you enjoy playing rotcannon with unlimited buildpoints.
GPP is from the few clangames I've played rather decent in clanwars, and it's much harder to camp ̣- you should give it a try.
I would actually say I currently enjoy GPP clanwars more than 1.1.
Very few clans made the migration to GPP though, and I can partly understand it. Even if the balance does reduce camping there's something just feeling wrong with the movement and hit detection. I can't serialize my thoughts to words, but something in the physics engine changed and I still think unlagged, while admittedly more fair, does a lot of funky things with the hit detection.
Now my mind wondered off again and i forgot to stop typing :)

Oh, that wasn't exactly what i was meaning, i'm not that concerned in graphics. I played until a clan scene existed, , but i think that is one of the strong reason why where is no new fresh blood in the game.

And the few players left split uf between the 2 (incompatible) releses, so it seems even more deserted.

Absolutely true, i think that was what discuraged old players, for some strage reason everything seems a bit less "agile", and the sensation was amplified since the look was exactly the same but the feel was so mutch different. So in the first moment there is no way you can like it.
I'm sure that if you continue playing it can be and intresting gameplay, but so few has gone that far.

This was what made me not play GPP 1.2 too. However the agility and sprint problems have been fixed a long time ago and you can go as fast as you could in 1.1 with a goon or a marauder.
GPP scrims are awesome and better than 1.1, you should give them a try. GPP has seen good changes and it's enjoyable in public games too. You should give it a new try: play it for a week or so to get the hang of it.
And, finally, ddos is active and we're happy to scrim anyone interested. Just ask in ##ddos @ freenode.
