Title: So I go and get a real job and all you mu'f**kers just STOP playing, huh?
Post by: Venkman on March 12, 2011, 08:40:57 pm
Where is everybody?

Until recently, my schedule hasn't afforded me much time for vidiyah-games. And now, after months of nothing but the occasional round of Black Ops team-deathmatch to sate my need for virtual bloodshed, I finally have time to play some Trem. But almost every time I log on, the GPP server is empty.

I got so desperate for a round that I fired up 1.1 and even their servers (on a Saturday afternoon) were basically empty.

Please...

Say it ain't so, guys.

The Quake 3 engine isn't THAT old, is it? And Tremulous is AWESOME. At times I worry that my affection for the game is almost... borderline unnaturally, but I don't care. So what if I occasionally fantasize about making sweet gentle butt-love to an Advanced Marauder? At least I'm not a quitter! Seriously, if I can still manage to devote four hours every year to beating Mega Man 2, you lazy bastards can keep playing Tremulous.

So, please, come back. I promise I'll stop drinking. So much.

...During the week.

Venkman! You're still alive! Holy shit.

I still play, man. I think the reason why you're finding Trem so dead is because activity tends to peak towards the warmer summer months. Or maybe you're not coming on at the right times. US Main is pretty packed for much of the day.

Tremulous has 2 people: the new, old 7 year olds who suck with white names and the ones with 1 year or more experience with coloured name.
the quake 3 engine is old. I tell my friends to at least look at screenshots, and they say the graphics are only a bit better than wii, while the more advanced harcore gamers only play graphics of cod/halo ETC and theres the 7 year olds who dont care, but we dont like 7 year olds, do we?
Well, come on 1.2. Its always good to get another regular player back.

I've actually returned to playing Tremulous after a 1.5-year break. Didn't think I would, at least not before 1.2 but apparently there's something particularly captivating with Trem. Been playing pretty much TF2 in the meantime but got bored after I while. I find the people there quite boring. Believe it or not, but I prefer the Trem people with all the whining about feeding, noob building and whatnot. It's fascinating!

Kharn! Glad to hear that you're still around ;D

I managed to find a few people on GPP US1 earlier today, so I guess my timing is getting better. Hopefully, I'll catch you on tonight. Though, I have to warn you, it's been a while and everything but my :marauder: is still a bit rusty.

Of course, I spent so much time learning that little crab-dog's movements that they better be like second-nature to me.

Sad but seemingly true. Though it appears that GPP games have less useless white-names on average, compared to the 1.1 servers that I play on anyway (also, no deconners!) I just wish more of the old hard-asses still stuck on 1.1 would just get over it already and convert. At least then, we'd have a more consistent noob-to-useful players ratios.

Dude, hardcore gamers who play only for good gfx aren't hardcore gamers. They're the fucking pussies who complain about accessibility. I WANT MY GAMES EASY AND PRETTY, LIKE MY WOMEN. Those are the kids who will grow up and live off of hookers. Hardcore gamers play for gameplay and skill.

Anyway, nice to see you back Venk!!! <3

Minecraft, great example, the graphics are bad, but god damn the gameplay is sweet.

I will agree with you completely on that one.
I think i missused the word "hardcore". Either way, most people at my school only care about graphics, so that why no one plays trem at my school.
Anyways, im just going to silence myself and let this reunion thread get back on topic.

I am still quite active, but those happen only weekends, if even then.

Wait until July comes, then I have time to play Tremulous for every day atleast 1 hour... ;)

You've been away for 3.5 months (going by forums posts here) and in that time I assume you've earned money(!) and learned real world skills(!!!), but mostly money(!!!!!) and you wonder why some people never come back? :]

That said I've been playing since 2006 and I still keep coming back to this game. I put it down to OCD and the impression I get that this world should involve a lot more shooting of aliens.

But I'm with you on black ops(ps3)  I go into black ops for an hour or 2 or if it's zombies (another story) I will go play trem and find lots of people.

I don't know if god is mocking me or I was just on the wrong schedule but, every since this post, almost every time I've signed on to US1 it's been brimming with passable-to-badass players.

Either way, I'm glad I got to play some Trem!

Amen, brother.

It's like nerds who claim to love Sci-Fi but can't sit through ONE episode of old Dr. Who. It's just sad because they have no idea what they're missing.

For example:
I just bought a Nomad off of somebody the other day simply because it included the game General Chaos! For those of you not nerd-enough to remember what a Nomad was, it's a portable Sega Genesis. And one of the only real reasons to own a Genesis was General Chaos; a game which seemed to perfectly meld Sun Tzu's Art of War with the subtle poetry of 16-bit blood splatter.

...Like a beautiful haiku written with machine-guns.

Awe shit...

I'm Mr. Fuckin' OCD, which is probably why I couldn't stay away either. Now you've got me worried.

As for the money, it's enough to pay the bills. Meaning it's enough to earn a few good hours of solid Trem before I have to hear any bitching about it, so there's that.

Also, you're absolutely right. I never get to shoot aliens in real life...

::leans back and waits for the first "You could always get a job working Border Patrol" joke so eyes can be rolled accordingly::

Wow my eyes lit up when you said Nomad. I have a portable Genesis too, but it's a CDX. :D
I disagree with you on Art of War as 'the only real reason to own a Genesis', the puzzle game Columns alone disproves that...

I sold my old NES to get a Sega, and I played a bunch of great games on it. But it wasn't long before the Super NES came out with it's cartoony cartoonness to steal the 16-bit spotlight. Anyways, that truly was the golden age of console gaming.

Whoa, WHOA!

...I have to GO somewhere? Yeah, never mind. I'll just stick with Trem.

Oh, believe me sir, I said "one of" for a reason. Some others off the top of my head are the random-ass fighter Eternal Champions, Sonic the Hedge Hog which was one of the few platformers of its day that didn't wanna be Mario, and an awesome pinball game which I can't seem to remember the name of. Also, lest we forget, you couldn't play Sega CD without a Sega Genesis. Meaning no Star Ocean 2, no random badly-translated Mech games, no SEWER SHARK!

And, oh yeah, I had Columns too. I forgot how fun that one was. Easily the best video game I ever got from my grandmother, though I'm pretty sure the reason she picked it was because Columns was the only cover on the shelf that wasn't brimming with cleavage and/or blood.

Stay classy, Sega.

I'd like to say that anyone can be good in Trem 1.2. The learning curve is so much lower than that of 1.1. Its retarded.

Even me? 1.2 is sounding pretty good to me right now!

Ah, the days when Sega rivalled Nintendo, before everything went horribly wrong (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e3/Sega_Annual_Icome%28Loss%29_1993-2004.svg) for it. Today we've got Sonic on Nintendo games..
