Mighty excited. Are non-competitors going to be allowed to spectate, do you think? Muted or spec-only chat, of course.

I believe there will be 2 rounds. One round robin round and of that, the top four teams will advance to the elimination round.

We are looking for a web developer who knows PHP as well, in order to customize our site.
If you are interested in volunteering, PM me here or on IRC.

What sort of customizations? I know some PHP and I can probably make a layout, but there are probably people here better at it than me.

Fakewun, the co-founder of GT, is a freelance web developer. I'll throw the site at him and see if he can help. He knows his PHP.

AoTG and eh and .ddos said they'd join. That brings the total number of entrants up to 8, once they join. That's awesome. Let's try to get 12 groups participating in this. I'm very optimistic.

To clan leaders: you have a couple of weeks. There are some pretty skilled people floating around US Main. Try to make a recruit or two. It'll bolster the clan scene in the long run, even long after the tournament.

Sorry to say, but I am here to withdraw AoTG from the tournament. I have not been in contact with my teammates, which makes me worried. I don't want you guys to expect us to be in the competition, so I might as well play it safe and withdraw AoTG. Until I get in contact with my teammates, we will not be able to compete.  :(

As of now, if any teams need a decent player for a sub, I am open. Sorry about this Kharnov.

I thought this would have been obvious, but I will reiterate:

Our school gives students a tablet pc, and that's how I play Tremulous (same as my brother, Dark/Supra/Tweety/etc). At the end of the year, they collect them, reformat over the summer, rinse and repeat.

I only have 1 computer that's nearly always occupied, and not sufficient enough to play Tremulous (512mb ram, stock graphics card, 30 fps on atcshd MAXED, + shit wireless mouse).

I have better things to do in the summer anyways, I'd only play Trem if it was important, like this.

America, no solution to those problems that isn't pathetic in its predictability so you just pick something and deal with it.

Could be wrong, but I think you're still in 1.1. If you haven't played a good deal of GPP then you have no idea of how tolerable it now is for those who would bitch about its visual side effects.

That's F'king bullshit! I play on american servers almost every time i go on! I also play lagged servers, and it's fucking hard to pounce one bsuit blaster down in 5 seconds if he's moving backwards! (i have to go behind him, and swipe him from behind, otherwise, i'd just be walking into his boundry box, preventing me from walking faster, and on the server, my swipe is no way close to the bsuit) So... Why not aussie-unlagged? no one complains, except the iceland-greenlands (500+ping). I've played a greenland unlagged on 1.1, it was hard, but i still got an okay score.

Nice. GT vs NoS. This is a match I've wanted to see for a while now, considering how similar our structure and early histories are.

We have me, F50 and Kynes confirmed for the match against NoS. Medi won't be able to make it due to driver ed. I'll ask some more GT members. Might do it earlier on Saturday, even.

Edit: we have Medi.

Just for a reminder, the times on the page at least according to the news item are GMT +0. Not to attack anyone but we've had quite a few scrims canceled due to some people not realising what timezones mean and in which timezone they are, especially because of the daylight saving time, so:

A slight change of events has occurred. Do not be alarmed. Only a couple of groups are affected and the others will proceed normally.

The following matches will go on as scheduled tomorrow:

2011-06-26 20:00 | :CaD: vs .oP:
2011-06-26 20:00 | .ddos vs DSPro

The following matches have been postponed until the first three days of next week:

2011-06-26 20:00 | =Pk:| vs Sir|
2011-06-26 20:00 | GT vs NoS

If Sir| and NoS do not show up, they will be replaced by eH and {261} respectively.

If eH and {261} decide not to compete, GT will face off against Pk. An even number of groups will be maintained in either case.

We're off to a rocky start, but I'm optimistic. People are excited for the matches that will take place. Let's see how it goes.

I made it quite clear that matches could only be moved up. Your birthday was a fixed date and if you wanted to make the match, you merely had to go on IRC where Dracone and Yarou are usually always idling and request an alternate date. If your team doesn't make the first match and CaD produces the members, you will automatically forfeit the round.

Moreover, timeliness is key--depending on the severity of the lateness, time penalties may be enacted.

Just so people don't have similar problems, it's best for the clans involved in upcoming matches to agree on match times together and sort out what that means in each of your timezones. I relied on the match starting at 20:00 GMT and by the time I got online I found it had occurred at 18:00 GMT. This was perhaps a special case, as yarou apparently wanted to get it over with but it does highlight the issue of not getting online early and establishing the situation.
Title: Re: Tremulous Summer Olympics '11

Just to clarify, the default match time is every Sunday 20:00 GMT.
However, clans may reschedule days or hours earlier than that if they both have enough.
Sorry if this wasn't clear enough.

.ddos vs. DSPro == ∞-0 (forfeit of DSPro) (or at least nobody told me of any possible rescheduling when I asked)
You can reach the demos I recorded pretty easily (http://qrntz.users.anapnea.net/). The server is located in France.
I also have them on Dropbox, but well, I cannot for some reason link to them.

Looking forward to the remaining matches!

It's almost time for Week 2 matches. Remember, this is a round robin tournament, so even if you lost in the first week, it's not over yet and there is still a chance to make it to the finals. The finals will be the top four teams from the round robin tournament.

After steamrolling NoS, we had a much more lengthy match against {261}. It lasted over two hours, and I believe in all four games, both sides reached stage 3. We had me, F50, Kynes, Pazuzu and Lucid. I don't exactly recall who {261} had, but they did have Qata.

First map was Niveus. GT lost both rounds after about a half hour each.

Second map was Karith. GT won the first round, as humans, using a very lol skybase. The second round, as aliens, we tied. I think if we had a few more minutes we might've been able to destroy the highly weakened human base, but that's irrelevant now. {261} beat GT 2-1.

Good game, {261}! We almost tied you, and we hope to see you in the semi-finals.

Here was our lol skybase:

The scoring system has been slightly updated. Celestial originally intended it to be per individual round, not for the overall game. Thus..

For the moment, GT and {261} are tied for first place. Of course, other clans have their matches schedule for this weekend, so it won't be that way for very long.

You can check out the current rankings here, with the updated scoring system:

.ddos just had its match against NoS.

All four rounds were won by .ddos. The first map was Niveus, and the second was Thanatos. Yarou subbed for a NoS member when one of them left.

+12 points to .ddos.

Hello,

Today, there was a scheduled match against :CaD: at 1pm PST, however, due to the unavailability of players, I talked with Yarou and we scheduled our match later today, 7pm PST, which he accepted. Unfortunately, no one showed up(:CaD: members) and when I checked on the site, it says we had lost games we hadn't even played. Multiple :CaD: members were present when me and Yarou had this discussion, so, I request a correction to the site, and an actual match in order to decide the winner.

Best Regards,

DSPro|Ethereal.

I made it quite clear that matches could only be moved up. If your team doesn't make the first match and CaD produces the members, you will automatically forfeit the round.

Well, we have all the round robin matches available online and what week. By default, they will be on a Sunday, it shouldn't take too much preparation to check when your match is going to be and make arrangements. And the problem with postponing is that matches tend to keep getting postponed. Matches will only be postponed under very special circumstances.
Title: Re: Tremulous Summer Olympics '11
Post by: Heli on July 04, 2011, 06:10:05 am
Honestly, I don't think Cadence should have to forfeit the match if they are willing to do a rematch at a time that works for everyone.  I think everyone agrees that a game is better than a forfeit.

Cadence didn't forfeit, DSPro did.
At this point, I don't think anyone has forfeited.  The facts are:
1) There was an agreed upon time between DSPro and Cadence.
2) Cadence didn't show up to that agreed upon time.

You guys didn't show up at 4 PM, we waited for you guys (after Lecavalier said he was waiting on a fourth) for a long time before leaving our server to watch NoS vs. ddos. Celestial Rage has pointed out numerous times that matches cannot be postponed, not sure why you can't comprehend that.

It sounds like I've missed out on some of this, so I'll just give my perspective:

We waited for DSPro throughout Sunday and they didn't show up.

If the rule is that matches can't be moved up then no agreement between two people can change that. If everyone agrees the rule is disrupting an already bad situation then I'd hope we can change the rule (or at least make an exception).

I would be glad to play the match since after two weeks in this tournament I still haven't actually played.
Title: Re: Tremulous Summer Olympics '11
Post by: Heli on July 04, 2011, 10:53:21 pm
We waited for DSPro throughout Sunday and they didn't show up.

There was really no need to wait around all Sunday - just show up at the time you agreed.  I think there is confusion here because someone on Cad didn't tell the rest of the team the time the match was to start.

As for the comments about not being able to postpone - I'm sure other matches have started past the originally arranged time when both clans have agreed - even if only for ten minutes.  Should these delayed games also be forfeit although both clans agreed?  If you are going to create a principle, then don't pick and choose when to apply it.

4-0 ddos vs. xenocide. Xenocide's behaviour was... kind of fucked up, with camping the whole 3rd round and doing a killserver in the 4th, but I guess asking for some kind of disciplinary action won't lead anywhere.

GGs guys. There were some problems with this scrim but I think everything will be resolved in time. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to play. You truly are now the MEGA-clan of Tremulous. Please take that as a compliment because its true. I do have issue with your issue of the 3rd round of the game. At this point, we were already down 2 games to 0 and were looking to achieve a tie to acquire tournament points, a very viable strategy. Thank you.

wtf is this shit 4-0 oh hell naw bih final results were 0-0-2.  The matches on your server were a continuation of a previous scrim (non torny matches)
(they dont count)

the second pair of scrims on the US server were plauged with many issues that caused them to be a tie.  Ryan could not shoot his gun, and >< ts was under attack.  second match the server mysteriously died so who knows who could have won that match.

Today's match occurred at approximately 2:15PM PST and lasted for an hour or two. GT was pitted against 7th. Since there's been no official announcement yet, I guess I can tell you what happened: GT won 4 - 0 against 7th. The maps played were nano and niveus. It was quite amazing. Highlights included a three-granger tower by GT to reach a certain spot in one of the maps and GT building a rather awesome human base right above alien default in Niveus and painsaw-rushing 7th, which was building in the crate room. I only have one thing I can say.

What a granger of a match!

:battpack:Round I Results:defcomp:

The first segment of the tournament, the round robin portion, has concluded today:

Next week, we will have the semi-finals!

There will be two matches to determine the two clans that will make it to the finals:

But wait! There's more!

There's a distinct possibility that CaD will not make it to the semi-finals, due to internal issues. In this case, they will drop out of the tournament, putting Pk into third place and GT into fourth. If this occurs, the alternative semi-finals will be:

The first match is in!

GT scored a single victory, breaking the .ddos win streak! Overall, the match was 3-1 with .ddos in the lead. It was very fun, very lengthy, and we're glad that we were able to have this excellent match. Thanks .ddos!

Now we're waiting for the results of the Pk vs (><) match.

edit: (><) beat Pk 4-0.

Thus, the final matches are next week!

We will have two matches:

So, when are the final matches going to happen? Today, tomorrow, what time?

EDIT:
Asked about it on IRC, if anyone interested:
ddos vs (><) is happening probably in monday, tuesday or wednesday. GT is owning Pk probably tomorrow (if not, same as ddos and (><)). Same time as always (9-10pm GMT).

Even I haven't got the faintest idea when the big final match is happening. How will it happen during the weekdays with the time zone differences?

The matches are the same as always. Sunday @ 20:00 GMT. If you can't make it, reschedule, although, it is kind of late for that.

We will not make the final be a forfeited match in any case, no.

That's true. I'm sure you'll decide a reasonable time.

GT, tomorrow still works for the match against Pk right?

THE FINAL

ddos and >< have come to a conclusion to have The Final held on Saturday, 27 Aug 2011, at the usual 20:00 GMT time. I believe both clans are trustworthy enough to allow spectators, so bring popcorn, drinks and last but not least yourself to witness the grand last spectacle of this tournament!

(Will we have live audio commentary? Whales?)

(Pk finished third. Hooray!)

I sure hope so. I won't have to sub in for my own clan this time, and I should by over my throat issues by then, so expect me!

All right, very nice! I guess it's handled as some kind of a mumble server?

Mumble server, or, as well, I'm going to be on a higher bandwith stream, so streaming may be a possibility, albeit I never did get past some of the technical glitches I was going through with that.

Title: TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Post by: kharnov on August 28, 2011, 03:35:39 am
Hey everyone! I would've posted sooner, but for some reason the forums have constantly been down.

Anyway, the tournament has ended today!

The results:

1st place: .ddos
2nd place: (><)
3rd place: Pk
4th place: GT

With a near-perfect win streak, the Europeans have taken home the gold this year! Congratulations, .ddos! Xenocide came in a close second, after nearly tying with .ddos today in the final match. Pk beat GT for third place in the finals, although GT maintains the moral victory, as GT has not killed a single granger all tournament. What a granger.

CaD, DSPro, NoS, and 7th did not place into the finals, but I still think they deserve a round of applause for participating. Thanks guys! We wouldn't have had such a large tournament if it wasn't for your clans entering. There's always next year!

I'm also grateful for the assistance in setting up, regulating and hosting the tournament. To everyone that helped in some way, thank you! You all made this possible.

That's all, folks! We'll be hosting more tournaments in the future, stay tuned!

The real olympics don't bother much with fourth place from what I've heard.
