Tremulous Forum

Wouldn't it be boring if there was only one death message: X was killed by Y? Tremulous currently has a low variety of death messages, mostly a generic one per weapon. Though basically enough, we can add a bit of flavour to it. Let's brainstorm some!

You are encouraged to dump anything that comes to your mind. Don't worry if you think it's not too good. It may even give someone a new idea. Just stay away from one thing: stealing.

just for a start:

nade suicide -> X had his watch handed to him.

(Don't know if it's any good.)

X lost his grenade pin. Anyone find it? //grenade suicide
X thought the acid tube was a flower //death by acid tube
X was shot in the back by his 'teammate' Y //death by TK
X was chomped by a maruading maruader named Y  //Death from Marauder
X froze in Y's headlights (This would be good for a tyrant killing a human)  //Death from Tyrant
X pointed his flame thrower the wrong way.  //Flame suicide
X thought Y's painsaw was a popsickle and tried to lick it //Death by painsaw
X shouldn't have tried to eat Y's shotgun //death by shotgun
X shouldn't step near glowing yellow balls //Death by lucifer

Give me time and I'll come up with more

X Killed, Y Killer
Drown -> X thought he was a fish/ X didn't realise he can't breath underwater
Lava -> X shouldnt swim in lava, X mistook lava for hotsprings
Swarm -> X forgot bugspray/ X should have called an exterminator
Human Tk -> Y Forgot the safety was off aiming at X/ X was blasted cause Y forgot the safety was on
Rant -> X was torn limb from limb by Y's tyrant
Fall -> X looks like the contents of McD's burger, X created a new doormat, X made a self portrait
Luci -> X fell to the Y Lucifer spamming
Flamer -> X was barbecued by Y (Just needs some hot sauce)
Turret -> X was turned swiss cheese with Turret rounds
HSpawn Explosion -> X was blown up by the buildings he was camping
Granger -> X shouldn't have attacked Y grangers
Was in wrong place -> X was killed by the Guardians *already in my mod*

X tried to put the pin back in

They are client side, so go for it.

I made one that made the marauder one a bit more, appropriate:

Player X misscooked. (flamer self kill.)

X understood Y's tyrant namesake

i think we shouldnt change death from granger.

X should not touch overmind // death from OM
X is now in two pieces thanks to Y's painsaw // death from painsaw
X flight ended today // death from fall
X was turned into a skeleton // death from acid tube

X's Goon got a Painsaw stuck in his ass.

the petting the granger one is good, and the hug

Letting people think up obituaries usually has a very bad result. This is mostly due to the serious lack of 'sense' for words that people have. Just reading through these posts dramatically proves my point.

No, I would like it if each cause of death had TWO messages.
Variety is the spice of life, after all.

In that case, can anybody post the defaults? It would be nice to compare with the suggestions posted here, and would help with compiling a list, if someone were inclined to start a project like this. Making a master alternate list could be fun, and the basis for some future meta-poll, however meaningless.

i dont think any alien(besides S1 granger) is even capable of suffering a death caused by height

Only s1 grangers can die from falling, and it's still pretty damn hard. (Take falling off the huge stairs in karith by the aliens base. jumping from the top down to the bottom as a granger loses you ((about)) 4 hp.)

In Ancient Remains there is a pit in the Alien default base that dretches can fall into and die. (I'm pretty sure that's Ancient Remains.)

the alien default base is outside, and there ain't no pit there.

Must be Hamunaptra then...

The maximum fall damage for granger is 10, I've seen the code, as well as tried it on both pushcannon and rotcannon.

death by om = tryed  to hug the om

I just want to see customizable death messages in maps...
