You can defend yourself - the trapper does no damage itself, you can still fire your weapon, just makes it harder. It also has to be tuned - the time , reload, range, etc.
These are the kind of things that will really only be effective depending on the person building them, as far as placement. From a short distance you can destroy them easily, but place in an ambush area in conjunction with maybe 1-2 other players makes it a feasible defense. It will require vigilance as well, a trapper might work once, but if no one is actively playing off it, the trapper will get destroyed.

Just in case it wasn't clear these are placed by other players. The players skill doesn't come into play with the actual function of the trapper, but also stated before , the players skill will come in placement of the trapper. Does that make sense?
Those shots arent from a release map - it's a test map that has varying degrees of light/dark and a mishmash of areas to test items, gameplay, features, etc. I'll post some brighter shots next time. It might also be that my monitor is turned up brighter than most?
