Base underwater?
« on: January 13, 2009, 09:59:13 pm »
is it possible to make an alien base under water without limiting there productivity to play? because I'm making a map that's in an iceberg and its a human lab but halve of it was hit by a meteorite and sunk into the water is that possible? so half of the map is full of water past head height for himans or would this make tons of problems.

It can be done, but water turns alien so slow that can't rush well. Dretches can't even reach turrets, and tyrants can't escape on time...

Wouldn't be very realistic then, would it.

But it is a good idea for a sunken portion of a corridor, for instance. An underwater point of passage which would pose equal difficulties for humans and aliens.

you could change the water shader so that it doesn't change the speed (I think) but then it wouldn't be very realistic as Urcscumug said. Sounds a great idea though, so good luck.

OK i think now that hearing from your guys words i that i should make a map call "icecap" that's hit by an meteorite which messes up the lab and alien testing chambers which allows them to break free so now insteed of the maps alien being under water Ive decide the middle instead OK? good or bad idea?

I don't like it as much, but then its your map and as we say, it would be hard to have half the map underwater.  :)

That sounds better, as long as the submerged portions are used exclusively as passage points. You could also leave a couple (or more) non-submerged ways of access, and make them narrow and/or hard to access, to have the two teams have to fight for it. :) But place them a distance apart, to avoid one team camping and controlling both.

BTW, what happens to the various human weapon projectiles underwater?

i think u should have it so there are two bases, both in caves which can be accessed multiple ways: through a small tunnel, and through a main door. the small tunnel should just lead up to the surface, and the main door/entrance should have a passage going downward, and eventually go down to where it is full of water. then have it come back up out of the water to the other base...
