what type of internet connection do you have?

A few things I can think of at the moment:

1) Make sure any bandwidth heavy applications such as torrents etc. are not running when you play.

2) If you are on wireless you may want to switch to wired.

3) Perhaps ping a couple of servers through command line and see what you get.

What he said. Tell us about your network. Wireless? Sounds like you took your computer to a friend's house, so I'm assuming you've got a laptop. Who else is using the same router? What type of connection? What is the "last mile" connection like? (are you in the hills? a dorm? apartment building? busy neighborhood? is ur sib streaming vid while ur playing?) What is your ping on other games? Where - generally - are you located? (e.g. Antarctica, Australia, Manhattan) Where are the servers you are trying to ping? Lastly, what range of ping are you talking about? (e.g. 0 - 100, 100 - 200, 200 - 300, over 300)

In short: More Information Please.

Hi,

have you tried a ping hack. There are instructions and a video on the blog at www.pinghack.com

Thanks

It's called "Internet connection speed." You, sir, need help with more then your ping.

Of course you can get fine connection speeds on wireless, but the point is, a physical connection is faster.

The ping to my wireless router is 0.9 msec

I don't think that it makes any difference whatsoever if it were 0.1 msec

^^ Any specific reasons for making an argument?

You know what I mean.

might just be me but i can't play much on my laptop and on my desktop using wireless, because the pings begin to elevate, then they drop down, i.e. ping 4.2.2.1 starts out at 10ms, then 20, then 30, 40, 50, then back to 10, over and over again.

This is usually when there is too much noise (too many other wireless routers on the same channel) or when you have too many computers connected to one wireless router. (1-3 works, anything over 4 in my experience is katastrophic to the quality of the connection)

@OP: Upgrade your connection or change some of the Tremulous network settings.
